Sarkisian Talks National Championships

“We’re here to win championships,” Steve Sarkisian said. “I wasn’t surprised I was offered the job. I won’t be surprised if we win national championships.”

Pat Haden said he spent three hours interviewing Ed Orgeron several weeks ago.

    • Agree. Being the top #2 in college football ain’t bad. I think Orgeron read too much of his own press and thought he had the job wrapped up. Although everyone liked and respected Orgeron, you never heard someone say he had a great football mind, and that’s what is needed at a top football program.

      • Kitten, are saying Sark has a great football mind? Because great FB minds should be graded on their HC W-L records. Correct me if I’m wrong: Sark is 34 -29 in his 5 years stint at Washington. He also lost this year to: SUC, Stanford, Oregon, and UCLA with a team touted above average or better. Not an indication of a great FB mind.

        • USC did not play UW this year, racist. We did, however, play them last year (and won).

Before you edit your comment to correct your mistake, you said: “He also lost this year to: SUC, Stanford, Oregon, and UCLA with a team touted above average or better.”

      • Agree Helen, but that’s nothing new with your perspective. Continue the great replies.

      • First you spout off about your hate for Asians and now you are making Jewish/Nazi jokes? You need some help keeping your racism at bay.

        • Yawn loser. You have yet to quote my racist opinion(s) expressed on this blog. Like all goose stepping JB Society republicans, you claim things you are unable to prove or provide evidence to substantiate your pinhead claims. Lose on to the Cellar, remain calm and return to your cess pool.

          • So you’re saying you haven’t made remarks about USC and all of its Asian students in a derogatory manner? Are you a liar, a racist, or both?

          • Now boys, this cuts both ways. Again, simply stating statistical facts, the Asian student population is now the majority at UCLA at 34%. Caucasian/white students comprise 27%, according to the UCLA admissions portal.

          • I failed to see this problem. When I say Chinese Students, I mean actual students in the US from the Chinese mainland. You know students here on student visas. Chinese/American students are American’s like anyone else. I care where they go to school

          • you sure seem focused on USC and its Asian students. They’re definitely the SC of old, that’s for sure. But they also explain why SC’s not a bottom tier school anymore either, so you got that going for you!

          • Aren’t you supposed to be on a self-imposed ban? Or are you the type that doesn’t hold up his end of the deal?

          • Azzzhole has ZERO integrity…none… nada… ZILCH…..The man makes a bet, loses it and doesn’t honor his word….he gets no respect from me, not that he really cares….and nor do I

          • Oh Tpizza you’re one to talk of integrity. You’d have to borrow integrity if you needed any.

          • If I make a bet, and I lose, I pay up……The AZZhole, who you are defending, does not….Now tell me, SUC Wad, which one of us has integrity???

          • USC versus Oregon State….loser was to be banished from this blog for life, under any and all user names……Azzhole even went as far as wanting to block the losers IP address….he lost…..now he is back….

          • I stand guilty of the following: I stated a fact – the University of Southern California hosts more Chinese students than any other school/University in the US. I further stated that SUC was educating many of China’s next generation of Intelligence Officers. That is a logical conclusion based on the fact that IO’s with experience in a specific country with fluent language skills would naturally be targeted and recruited by China’s intelligence community. The Chinese are no fools. The preceding facts do not suggest, based on the definition of racism, a racist attitude or agenda.

          • You assume any student from mainland China is an intelligence officer. You don’t assume these students are going to work in joint ventures with American and Chinese companies as engineers, as marketers, as managers, or in any technical field. You don’t assume any of these students will work for NGOs that work on peacebuilding between the two countries. You don’t assume these students will work on developing greener technologies. Instead, you just assume any mainland Chinese student is going to spy on the US.

In World War II, the US presumed any Japanese-American must be in the country to spy on the US.

So, dear Suck-fest, do tell us, how are you more racially progressive than those who racially profiled Japanese-Americans and shopped them off to internment camps?

          • Republicans as “goose stepping” Nazis?

            Marxism/Communism/Socialism as “proven” successes?

Now, I enjoy gloating over UCLA’s dominance as much as the next Bruin, and Republicans have done little in recent decades to distinguish themselves from their statist opponents across the isle, but those two claims are gravely inapt.

The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln, Abolitionism, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Thirteenth Amendment, the Civil Rights Act (a greater percentage of Republicans than Democrats supported it), and Martin Luther King, Jr., and its TEA Party faction hearkens back to the Republic’s founding principles the benefits of which you so enjoy.

On the other hand, the Democratic Party is the party of slavery, Segregation, and racial animus and dependence, with the KKK its terrorist wing.

And it is today driving this nation into bankruptcy, servitude, and depravity.

Whatever you want to call your brand of fascism, it has “proven” only to enslave, impoverish, and oppress Mankind.

            Please, don’t be deluded.

Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietam servitutem.

          • Those “were” the Republicans of yore. Unfortunately we have replaced Lincoln and Eisenhower with Ted Cruz. The current party needs some help.

          • I agree that the current party needs a lot of help.

But does Cruz support slavery? Oppressive taxation? Elitist no-nothings dictating to the rest of us how we should live?

Is there something specific about him of which I am unaware that is a danger to our nation?

Personally, I’d love for the mechanic who works on my brakes to share my religious and political leanings, but if he doesn’t, at least he can fix the brakes.

Can’t we have a president (and Congress, and Supreme Court) who can read, obey, and fulfill his or her oath to defend the Constitution? Is that too much to ask?

Our elected officials — from both parties, but especially Democrats — live like kings on our backs and think that they — and we — deserve it.

They think that they know better, and they use our tax dollars, crushing, eternal debt in our name, and the devaluing of our currency to convince us of it.

(When you look at it that way, who can blame them for thinking that we’re sheep?)

After one of the recent mass-shootings, the president took the opportunity to try to curtail gun rights even further. Did he disarm his own security? Of course not.

What makes his life or the lives of his family members more deserving of protection than yours and your family’s?

Not long after taking office, the president helped end a program in Washington, D.C. that gave children from families who couldn’t afford it the opportunity to attend a prestigious private school, something his own daughters enjoy.

What makes his children more deserving than yours?

What kind of idiot not only takes away essential freedom in the name of “I know better than you” — he calls it “healthcare” — but actually destroys the healthcare — and jobs — of
millions (and millions more to come)?

And even worse: When his lie is exposed and his already-unpopular power-grab is railed against even by his own supporters, he then sets aside elements of the law as he chooses, something which is lawful only for Congress?

Thomas Jefferson — a man who knew something about opposing tyrants — advised: “In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”

Which of the two parties is closer to protecting our God-given, unalienable rights? Which politicians given even just lip-service to Liberty?

          • Sandi’s a libertarian. What a joke, fat Russ’ chump, a Nixon hypocrite, Danny Quail’s oyster.

        • SUC This has his activity set on private in order to avoid being exposed…. what a hypocritical coward….

  1. It has been 30 years since you won a championship and the drought will continue now that the Bruins run LA now.
It has been pathetic how low the water polo and women’s track school has sunk hoping and praying that Mora leaves UCLA! Sorry Toejams!

  2. Oh, the irony of it – by hiring Sarkisian, Haden just gave Mora leverage to sweeten his deal at UCLA, which will play into Hundley’s decision to stay for another year.

    • Irony nothing……it was sound business strategy and Mora took full advantage of the situation, as he should have…….and if BH decides to stick around another year, that’s a bonus… Hundley’s family had better secure an insurance policy in case an injury were to prevent him from playing pro football….

        • They may have indirectly helped Mora, not necessarily UCLA…….there is nothing ironic about this…….although, you may interpret this situation as such….Irony – “incongruity between what is expected to be and what actually is, or a situation or result showing such incongruity”

          • I stand by my use of the word irony here. The incongruity is that Haden inadvertently strengthened the UCLA program by hiring away the UW coach–opening up what Mora once called his “dream job.” This allowed Mora to leverage more $$ for he and his staff. If that’s not ironic, I’m not sure what is.

          • Mora may be the big winner out of all of this. What an exhausting few days. SC on a roll. Ed O all set to take over as head coach. Bruins win a surprisingly easy victory. Ed O bandwagon empties. Haden hires Sark and Eddie jumps off the Trojan horse. Huskies go after Mora which he leverages into a nice raise and other commitments. What a whirlwind.

          • If Mora had left for WA, the entire LA basin would have had a meltdown…..nice to see the rivalry back to where it should be….

          • And by the way..you have some “colorful” Trojans on these sites as well. The Capper, Joe Blow and a couple of others were all over Wang’s site earlier gloating about Mora going to Washington..and then poof! They disappeared. We all have that crazy cousin we don’t want to claim.

          • I hear ya……..Wang’s blog is much more subdued….I feel as if I should be wearing a smoking jacket and puffing on a pipe whenever I read blog posts from Wang’s readers……it’s a free for all in here……The Animal House of blogs, if you will…..

          • Agreed. I’ll trade you TrojanFan and Blow for Suckee and all of Bucket’s nicknames. Then we can sweep this site and leave just the serious football fans of both schools

          • For a Rhodes Scholar Haden is really a disappointment. Now recruits will know Mora is at Westwood High for the long haul.

          • Again, how is UCLA paying their current coach more than he made last year “strengthening UCLA?” Will it make him a more effective coach because he is making more money? it seems all it did was keep UCLA at the same level but costing a little more money. At best it did nothing to UCLA’s program. At worst it cost is slightly more.

        • How is compelling UCLA’s athletic department to pay more for the coach they already had “helping UCLA?” It seems to me the only thing this did was ensure UCLA paid more for their own guy. I don’t think this is a motivation for USC’s hire, but I don’t see how Haden helped UCLA at all.

          • Haden created a vacancy at UW.

UW is the one place most likely to lure Mora away from UCLA. (Or at least it would appear that way to most people, including Guerrero.)

This led the AD to give Mora a raise and an extension, making him more likely to stay.

How does Mora’s staying *not* help UCLA?

          • 12/2/13 = Mora is coach at UCLA
12/3/13 = Mora is coach at UCLA for more money than yesterday.

How is Mora staying improving UCLA? UCLA is at the status quo. The only thing different at UCLA from yesterday is today is they are paying Mora more. (They avoided getting worse by losing him, but that is not the same as getting better).

          • You have to understand the logic is coming from westwood. They don’t have to make sense or be logical.

          • More money and an extension kept Mora from his “dream job.” (Probably kept him; his public statements have indicated a serious, anti-Kiffin commitment to UCLA.)

If Mora won’t be lured away by his alma mater — and now he has more money and more job security, which are more reasons to stay — then his commitment is likely stronger. (If that’s possible; we don’t know what’s been going on in his head.)

As for “better,” I wrote that your AD “helped” UCLA. By any definition of the word, Mora as coach “helps” the Bruins.

And they will keep getting “better.”

  3. Mora will not be leaving for Washington. SUC outflanked again. And BTW, BH will also return next year.

    • so funny – for a year now, all we’ve heard here is that Mora’s gone as soon as UW gives him the chance. Losers!

      • Sorry stooge AHOLE but he didn’t stay out of the kindness of his heart or his undying love for Fucla he got a better deal or he was gone you silly lil troll
        TROLL ON!!!!

  4. This is the swagger the program deserves – it is the type of statements that are uttered a full season before the games are played. It enflames the alsorans both athletes but especially other coaches. Not one other HC in the conference would have the temerity to say what Sark said because they’d be laughed at.

Will it happen? No one knows but one thing is for sure with Mora re-upping for the bel-airians it’s ‘game on’ and unlike Mora’s affection for both Kiffin and Orgeron there ain’t any here – it’s back to our contempt for the state financed school by Troy.

Glad Mora’s staying – it’ll be fun to see what goes down next year ‘because’ OR, Stanford and AZ St. are still the same.

    One last year of restrictions!

“Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war!”

    • It is now definitely game on! It’s about time we joined the party and stepped up to big boy football.

      • Highly unlikely – you need a state of the art training facility I know I know that is now finally in the works – problem still have a 80 yd. field for practice. Your stadium, as beautiful as it is, is a full 20 miles from campus in the worst urban traffic in the nation. The only ‘feel’ the players get is ‘game day’ with a few practices held there prior – i.e. a ‘foreign place’ save Saturdays.

You have Mora tied down for 6 more years which is the key here but as long as USC had the likes of a Kiffin running the school advantage UCLA and as long as Orgeron was still around – advantage UCLA – Ed better learn to lose his emotion when he makes crucial decisions with his future – that stunt is not going to play well with any future AD esp. when what was offered to him was denounced as ‘not fair!’

Next year is your best and only shot – it will commemorate your sole NC of 1954 – after that we’re back to full strength and this time there is no fraud like ‘Paul Dee’ waiting to do the SEC’s bidding – compliance is key and Haden knows it which is why DelRio and I suspect Sulin were never going to get an interview.

        • 80 yard practice fields are more symbolic than anything. SC will need 2 to 3 years to get back to full strength as you will also lose some players to the NFL early. Next year will be the toughest year.

We will have a great shot to win PAC-12 next year as the schedule is more favorable and our young players get better. We should be competitive for several years..or as long as Mora is around. After that, who knows.

We will see what Sark does. Words are pretty unimportant. .

          • Ok but understand – Orgeron was a great recruiter and a defensive line coach – Sarkisian is a ‘qb’ coach – he made Palmer and Leinart Heisman winners and made Booty credible and an NFL pick with MN (long gone). Kessler is through the frosh qb Brown will be hot to start more importantly is recruiting.

Mora is still learning about southern CA. every credible coach nationwide recruits in state (CA) because on average some 120 top players are here year after year. Sarkisian has never stopped recruiting here since PC hired him back in 2001 – he knows: all the high school coaches, the older siblings that played and where they played, what programs to avoid and where the real gems are that Mora after two years, doesn’t.

Sark also knows right now, 2013 who are the best prospects in the northwest and the ones that Athlon et. al. have incorrectly downgraded.

Lastly with Ed Orgeron gone a huge distraction is also avoided esp. with recruiting – no need to treat a gifted kind interim coach with kid gloves – again you have one year at most – better ramp it up fast and hope Hundley stays or say hello to Rick’s son as your ‘qb’!

          • Sark will be like 8-4 and be fired after 4 yrs. He should have stayed at UW. He will regret it. USC coaching job is 3 times more intense. If he goes 8-4. He won’t last long! He will lose to Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, and UW next yr. Trojan fans will want him fired If he does. Maybe I am wrong. He might win 9 games. We shall see.

        • Rus, pu is a putz. Dreaming about fucla football. SC will another NC before fucla finishes in the Top 5

          • Yeah, and Mora is going to Washington. Quite the prognosticator. 7 win Steve has us all shaking in. Our boots.

  5. Why is Sarkisian talking about National Championships at USC when he couldn’t produce any at Washington ? I’ve always believed that Haden was way in over his head in this athletic director job. He hires a firm to conduct the search; it takes weeks to narrow the field; and then he ends up with washed out Sarkisian ? What kind of a search team was that which created this disaster ? Don’t forget that Sarkisian was a Mike Garrett reject when Pete Carroll left the program. If he wasn’t good enough for a Heisman winner, why is the the flavor of the month now ? His record is so unimpressive. And, why would Pat Haden hire someone back into the football program who was present when the Reggie Bush antics were taking place ? Boy, what a turkey of a pick.

  6. The biggest challenge this team faces remains.

We are still 2-3 years away from the loaded rosters of old.

And those pesky Bruins keep picking up ground.

I am however, comforted by the thought that Mora is absolutely gone at his first whiff at another NFL job. He showed some loyalty when his contract was re-upped 6 years, but don’t expect that if an NFL team comes knocking.

    • LOL. “this is better than the super bowl” ~ jim mora last saturday. he prefers the college game, the tradition, and the kids to the business of the nfl.

  7. This what I heard from todays presser “Blah..blah..blahblahblah… .blah, WHAT MORAs BACK!! (turns away from the mic whispers*sh!t” – Steve Kardashian

  8. THATS WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR! But lets start smaller
    Recruiting
    conference
    Then back to NC!
