Justin Wilcox In Top 3 For Boise State

According to the Idaho Statesman, Wilcox, Arkansas State coach Bryan Harshin and former Boise State coach Dirk Koetter are the top three candidates for the Broncos job.

What happens if Wilcox gets it? What does Steve Sarkisian do? Keep Clancy Pendergast? Promote Peter Sirmon to defensive coordinator?

  1. IMO, Pendergast did a respectable job. The secondary showed marked improvement over the season. The run defense suffered when Dawson went down. Sarao was undersized and had trouble getting off blocks.

      • Yes, but Tavai did a very good job filling in. The added experience will be a plus going into the next season

    • Dawson is garbage. Disappears for stretches of games and I forget he’s on the team. Sarao seemed to find the ball more, but was undisciplined as Dawson when it came to gap responsibility (crucial vs. the spread).

With a deep RB depth, maybe move Madden back to LB?

      • Garbage? Really? I wonder if he’s better at his job than you are at your job.

On a serious note, why would you move Madden back to LB? He looked unstoppable at RB before he got hurt. How do you rate him vs. Buck and Justin (who are also quite special)?

        • Garbage is harsh. I’ll admit I’m more emotionally caught up in him wearing #55.

Madden isn’t a complete back like Davis or Buck. The latter both have better vision when it seems like there’s no hole.

I don’t remember Tre finding a cutback lane on any of his runs. Keep in mind that his success happened on mostly the bad defenses we faced early on: BC, WSU, Utah St, etc.

I think you’ll agree that his running style is not well suited against a team like Stanford who we can’t blow off the line.

      • Did you have your glasses on when Dawson was playing? The was great on the point of attack. Sarao was pushed around like a rag doll…..watch some game film

          • Expectations are only one’s opinion. I guess he hasn’t met yours. I think he’s passed my eye test

      • We need all our current running back. We were down to our #4 running back by seasons end

        • You could be right, but I kind of laughed when Soma asked Coach Sark, “do you plan on using a fullback?”

I don’t expect much use of the FB as evidenced by his past offenses. It’s a shame, too — Soma was a dependable receiver out of the backfield after his 2012 year where he seemed to have frying pans for hands.

          • He was much improved from last year! He’s a good player and Sark will find a place for him

  2. Actually, in Pendergast’s 1st year, we went from 62nd in the NCAA (2012) to 16th this year (total defense). And we had virtually NO back-ups all year, especially in the backfield. Players love the more aggressive style. Personally, I favor keeping Pendergast even if Wilcox was available.

  3. I won’t be surprised if Wilcox gets the Boise job. From what I’ve read, he was well-liked while there. Plus, they had a massive win record (I believe it was under five or six losses when I looked), though that could be chalked up to their offense. I’ll take Pendergast…I want to see what he does with more (and better developed) players. I think pressure works well in the PAC 12.

    • I believe pressure works, too, but you absolutely have to have the CBs to cover when they have no help. Outside of Shaw, we were absolutely TORCHED with the guys who are returning next year in Seymor, McQuay, etc.

To my surprise, while CP was hired to stop the spread, his formula was better suited for the pro-style teams. Unfortunately, almost our entire conference is spread and we can’t afford 60+ points given up to ASU and games like the UCLA one where a team moves the ball at will.

      • Dawson will make a big difference, Sarao was on roller skates and over matched. As far as the secondary goes, experience will breed improvement(glad to see Harris moving on)

        • Sarao is a cave man…”I see football..” LOL

My patience is running out on Dawson.

I spoke to him after the spring game (nobody recognized him without his #55 jersey on) and said he was going to have a “break out year” since they were no longer running the tampa 2 which required him to cover more.

He got me excited and it turned out to be Pullard who became that beast he described.

      • Can’t a 5-2 be converted to something like a 3-4 or 4-3 with relative ease? I remember a Broncos article where they switched between 3-4 and 5-2. If P did something like this, it would confuse defenses more. But it keeps the offense honest and gives us more options against teams who are just going to chew through short yardage.

  4. But if we keep Pendergast, won’t he have to drop his 5-2 scheme and go with Sark’s 4-3/3-4 hybrid that he’s not so comfortable with?

    • No if clancy stays they will not switch to what sark wants. Plus clancy already runs a 34 style mixed with a forty front against spread. Usc biggest recruiting need on defense is corners no doubt.

  5. If you retain Pendergast I don’t think you get Lupoi. He walked out on Tedford and Clancy two weeks before signing day. It destroyed Cal. Would Pendergast even want to work for Sarkisian after he did that to Cal? So much for kids going to a school for the school…the biggest pile of BS in CFB mythology.

    • I’ll take Quality over Quantity every time! (T-Fail posts 20 times on this thread alone….all drivel..While Tom brings home the Bacon!). Remember the uproar two years ago when Sarkiffian POACHED Lupoi at that critical moment leaving Cal High and Dry? Why would pendergast want to have anything to do with Lupoi or Sarkiffian AFTER he was stabbed in the back? Why do you knuckleheads continue to hire sleazy football coaches (remember the STOLEN LAPTOP incident at UCLA a few years back?…Well guess which coach from the Pacific Northwest welcomed the THIEVES with open arms?). I guess it’s true…You can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig!
      OINK OINK…and fit UN!

      • Coming after your *ucker. War time. Wolfie doesn’t follow the comments so its going to get personal for you.

      • Charlie, you sound like a deranged idiot! Why you continue to troll this blog is creepy, what is wrong with you? TF is right, you need professional help. The only reason I keep you around is because your a$$ hole is tight and it makes my dlc feel good. With that being said, you are actually a piece of shlt and why do you continue to wear perfume, it’s still a piece of shlt

      • Looks like you have now lost your ability to count, what a fucing mess. Dementia is some nasty stuff.

Your “DRIVEL” has nothing to do with the current situation at USC, nice try!

PS… go back to bed!…sounds like someone or something special is waiting for you…ouch!

  6. Hey wait one minute….What about the SUPER contributions by that 87 year old geezer (Pete) brought in by Coach nO mO? Don’t tell me you’ve got some 90 yr. old geezer “waiting” in the wings….You better sign him up QUICK!

    fit UN!

  7. I read on a facebook football forum that Wilcox is not interested in the Boise job and isliking homes in the Fox Hills area of LA. Like I said, it was a Facebook forum but could be true.

    • Give me Pendergast!….He has these guys going in the right direction. Build on what you all ready have in place

  8. That great coach up at ND St. Craig Bohl is the new HC @ WY and the national consensus is that the MWC is emergn quickly as the 5th best conference in the nation i.e. ahead of the ACC.
