St. John Bosco Safety Jaleel Wadood Commits To UCLA

St. John Bosco safety Jaleel Wadood committed to UCLA over USC today. This is not quite the “bang” expected from the Steve Sarkisian hire. Maybe he should have been on the sideline at Anaheim Stadium instead of GameDay on Saturday. Or both.

  1. I commented on this the other day (but was put into mod). I love the new talk about recruiting and find this to be one of the more exciting parts to college football. But, I think we put too much stock in the early commits. Wadood has committed to two other schools previously and his talk on Twitter has shown he is flaky at best.

I take all verbal commitments with a grain of salt until signing day. Hopefully we can hang in with some of the recruits we snagged earlier. One of our recruits said he has yet to be called after the coaching change.

    • Bingo. Verbal commitments have become almost meaningless in today’s recruiting landscape. Unless a kid has known where they were going to school since they were six, it’s anybody’s game until signing day…..in most cases.

      • I don’t blame them. I honestly am beginning to think we need to protect HS kids more. A lot of coaches are sharks – it’s not anything personal to the kid (or even that the coach is a bad person), it’s just a win at all cost mentality which means that kids are recruited to universities that are not necessarily in their best interest.

Now, with social media, players are getting death threats when commit to a team (see Cliff Alexander). Players are getting made promises over social media and are bombarded with fans.

How many players commit after a whirlwind trip? To whisk an 18 year old boy on a plane, put him in a nice hotel, and plan a bunch of fun activities is fun and exciting, but it’s unrealistic too. It becomes about which school can promise the most and make the kid feel the best. Add in some parents don’t understand the process or have other motives and it becomes even more complicated.

        • But, you Mr. Well Adjusted understands and forgives all the smart FB recruits who think SUC is a dead end and sign elsewhere. What load of SUC puke.

  2. Yeah Wadood committed to UCLA because Sarkisian went to Game Day.. That is exactly what happened. Great logic, I don’t know what we would do with out your insight Wolf!

    • This.

Maybe if Wolf was around the recruits he would be better in tune to why decisions were being made and in what way.

          • I don’t think so – Washington State 10 – suc 7. And you can’t be happy Haden hired a Little Petey Pom-Pom retread. Check out the Hitler/Haden/Sark parody on youtube.

    • Agree. Luckily for Wolfie, he’s got a captive audience with countless USC fans and Bruin trolls. Is there any other daily SC blog to look at where the Blogger isn’t so lame with at least 1/2 his questions or statements? Ya, being on GameDay, along with Nick Saban and the crew was real bad for USC Scottie. I just never knew we lost Wadood because of it. Wadood must be a pretty touchy guy.

    • Mora was on Wadool’s doorstep, while The Pat and Sack carnival was smoozing in bumFuc Indy. LOL.

        • Not at all. But thanks for asking. In addition to Wadood, UCLA also signed another 4 star BB recruit for 2014. As UCLA improves the SUCUDub circus, Pat and Sack’s D & P show bombs on network TV. Break a leg, SUCUDub.

      • Someone needs a hug.. stop worrying so much about what USC is doing, and focus more on all the talent FUCLA is getting, but still managing to be average to below average nationally, while also managing to earn the same conference record as a less talented depth school.. With a loss to Washington st.. oooo!
        OUCH!

  3. LOL at a beat writer thinking that a head coach attending one particular high school game is a student athlete’s basis for deciding where to attend college.

  4. Like I said last night, Wolf really has his finger on the pulse of high school recruiting in L.A! Not sure who is sources were yesterday that said Wadood favored SC. I had read that Wadood was a strong UCLA lean well in advance of yesterday and well in advance of the Sarkisian hire. Don’t think it reflects on Sarkisian at all, anymore than some of the kids that actually do favor SC reflects negatively on Mora. There is plenty of talent to go around for both schools.

    • If we did lose him, ANY solid DB is big to USC.

Just think of your backfield how it could have went losing Price, Hester, and McDonald the same offseason WITHOUT being able to reload.

I’m hoping Sark and his personnel could get creative in covering a few of the athletes that didn’t pan our at either WR or another position. Looks like Deion Bailey made the transition smoothly, but we should see if one of those 5 star WRs riding the bench can play DB.

  5. It’s rather simple – those recruits that are willing to compete go to USC; those recruits that want to be pampered go to UCLA (aka baby bruins). He saw Su’a Cravens, Dion Bailey, Leon McQuay and Gerald Bowman and said “no mas.”

Besides, USC has its eyes on the safety crown jewel – JuJu Smith.

    • And when he flips back to us after the bowls you rah rahs will suddenly say Jaleel wants to compete.

    • That is the funniest post I have ever seen! It looks like not much competition there! The only recruits that SuC may get now are the ones UCLA rejects for breaking the law! Sarkiffen On!

      • Tons of recruits available….most are special admits…and Az. St. & SUCks are ALWAYS there with open arms…”We don’t need no stinkin’ adkademiks” because we’s Torgans! (credit to Markeith!)
        fit UN!

    • Helen, I usually like your posts…but the compete line? The truth is that UCLA is far deeper in DB’s than SC is currently and has more competition than SC and will until SC gets all it’s scholarships back. Also, I think our boys competed just fine on 11/30.

JuJu Smith is the #1 rated player and is rumored to prefer SC or possibly Alabama. UCLA still on his list supposedly, but we don’t figure to really get him. We have others interested, including Budda Baker who was a hs teammate of Myles Jack. Should be a fun recruiting year….can’t wait to Wolf’s next Trojan prediction.

  6. Ouch! Wadood;s got game. Not real surprised as SC wanted him at corner. Tony Brown or Adoree Jackson might be better fits/needs. Juju Smith at safety sounds good too.

    • Jackson’s going to UCLA if he stays in town, but more than likely he’s to Florida or LSU. Smith has always been SC, but one guy ain’t gunna get ‘er done.

      • No it won’t, but you take them one guy at a time. This whole conversation is moot, everything will change on Feb. 6th.

  7. Humiliating Kick to the Crotch….At first they “sting”…then that DULL pain sets in…Most “No Daddy knowing” SACKLESS Torgans don’t feel a thing.

Gotta love the SUNSHINE Pumpers….they Turn down schools like Harvard, Stanford, Cal, and UCLA….yet spend Hours each day on this site….telling everyone else how smart they are. I’ll bet these same knuckleheads were special admits w/those dreaded character issues, unable to answer a simple question like…Who’s your daddy?
