USC Morning Buzz: Who’s Coming And Going? Marques Tuiasosopo? Justin Wilcox? Tosh Lupoi?

OK, let’s take the pulse of the coaching staff search as Heritage Hall prepares to open next month.

Washington interim coach Marques Tuiasosopo has been offered an assistant coaching position at USC, if he wants it. Huskies defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox will meet with Chris Petersen today. He also is up for the Boise State job and USC needs to resolve his $1 million buyout.th

Defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi, who has a $410,000 buyout, could be a controversial choice for USC and has hit some resistance, according to sources, because of his past.

Now for the current USC coaches: We hear linebackers coach Mike Ekeler and offensive line coaches James Cregg and Mike Summers will not be back. Sarkisian made a run at UCLA assistant coach Adrian Klemm but he decided to sign a new contract with the Bruins.

Running backs coach Tommie Robinson probably won’t be back becuase Sarkisian hired Washington running backs coach Johnny Nansen. The status of special teams coach John Baxer is up in the air right now.

  1. Did Sark tell the assistants that he is letting go that
the bowl game “is your last shot here,” or did Wolf make that up. If true, Sark could have been a bit more polite

    • I guess you can look at it in one of the two ways or both. One is stated by you, and the other is that he was trying to be clear cut about bringing in his own guys. I hope he’s meant the latter.

    • That chubby softie Snark wouldn’t have the nads to say something like that … unless one of his hired thugs did it for him.

  2. All the bustle and hustle aside, I’m extremely curious how Sarkisian will do in his first few seasons at USC. Even though he was an assistant for USC football for several years, he’s still an unknown quantity as HC for a program like USC. I hope Haden was right about this hire.

    • Sark will function like he did at Washington. He will be more successful at SC because he will get more talent than he could at Wash. SC is down because talent has been going to Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and now ASU. With sanctions going away, Sark will be able to draw that talent to SC. To win, talent is 80%, coaching is 10%.

      • What happened to all those 4* and 5* athletes that SuC recruited the last several years that haven’t panned out?

      • SuC has talent, at least on paper. All those 4 and 5 stars who ride the pine. Will Sark be allowed to keep recruiting players from other schools who get arrested or have problems with the law?
How is Sark going to sell SuC as being a ticket to the pros when the staff is filled with college level coaches? Pete Carroll could sell his pro coaching experience, as well as connections to sports agents and runners who would have full access to the team!
Watching Sarkiffin crash and burn will be even more fun than watching Kiffin! Thank you Pat! Great hire!!

      • Except that the sanctions continue until after signing day and Sarkiffian will feel the full weight of the previous two years of sanctions with little depth.

        • When SUCUDub starts losing regularly, Sack will need his I love LA media skills to deflect the media criticism and fan scorn.

      • Yes, of course you’re not going to win without talent on the field, but who does the recruiting to get that? Obviously, the coaches. So coaching is definitely worth more than 10% of the equation. It’s importance can’t be stressed enough.

    • Sad to say, but the roster he’s inheriting probably has more holes to fill than the roster he just left.

With all the depth issues of 2013, I hope a few freshman who redshirted last year (Bigelow, Fallah) or is still developing (McQuay) make a splash. I’m hoping Browne ends up stepping up big come spring camp.

If they don’t, it will be a very long year and even Coach O would be a longshot to win the South.

      • The REDSHIRTS were Redshirted because of WHY? Because you guys were so DEEP? Because they needed time to develop? (weren’t these guys 4 & 5 star recruits?…like Myles jack?). Why didn’t you use all the available scholarships when you were thin to begin with? Mercy Nurse! They don’t call you the S.C. brain surgeons for nothing!
        fit UN!

        • Do you want me to answer that like an adult talking about football?

There’s actually some intelligence in that post, but it’s still your typical Bucket 60% troll substance.

Let me know if you want your typical “yo mama” troll response or a mature response. I have a feeling you’re fishing for the former.

    • I hope I’m wrong but I really do feel like Pat Haden made a mistake and a big one at that. Haden was so indecisive in replacing former USC Basketball Coach Kevin O’Neil that he set the program back 3 years. O’Neil won 6 games and clearly could not Coach or recruit top players, but Haden brought him back for another year. The Baseball Team has been in shambles for years and once again Haden has not put that program in the right direction.

    • It’s the Carrol myth, Holt was the defensive coach during those national championship seasons. Gave up 69 points bowl game got fired. Kiffin same scene, no Sark???

    • So, you’re pleased with a guy who doesn’t make adjustments ? Did you watch the ucla game ? They ran the same play over and over and over again, and each time it was successful.

      • Swing pass to the left.. Swing Pass to the right…
QB draw up the middle on almost every 3 down play..

      • per NCAA, USC was 16th in nation total defense while Washington was 50th. Add to that that USC was so depleted in the end they literally were playing with only a few subs per game AND their best player was out for season (Breslin).

        • I had a talk with a USC alum. Kiffen was fired cause of his ego?? Sark lost twice as many games as Kiffen, that is why on a national scale that hiring is called “stumbling”

          • I hope Sark can win big but if he doesn’t and Peterson does well at Washington it should be adios for Haden.

          • Good thing you hate the guy so much you don’t even know how to spell his name. Sark brought a team from 0-12 to being very competitive in a short amount of time. UW fans and alums have National title expectations but thats not a reality in Seattle anymore. Sark will be fine at SC.

Oh, and Wilcox is better than Clancy.

  3. I am getting a BAD feeling about this new trOXan staff…there is no pussyfooting around the fact that Coach O was the players choice…and we saw what happens when they are not mentally behind the HC!!!

My pysological training tells me it’s very likely the players will WANT Khardasian to fail as retribution for replacing CEO, even if it’s on a subconscious level!!

      • Come on. SUC fans invented imagination. For instance the ” Unfinished Business” business. SUC thrives on imagination and pixie dust dreams – It’s SUC’s coin of the realm.

    • Pysological training consists of inventing a reality, then using that reality to troll a sports website. It involves fake login IDs and a false belief that the person practicing the “art” knows anything about the game of football. Added features include rather unfunny racial and ethnic stereotyping and a false sense of accomplishment when the fake IDs praise one another. Oh and incontinence.

      • nice coping mechanism….but does it really make you safe from the influence of the Cadre?

and i am NOT incontinent. as i have stated, i wear astronaut diapers to mitigate the need for restroom breaks….i calculate this gives me an extra 3-4 comment output per day.

    • With all the time you spend here, I seriously think YOU can write a better blog.

Heck, it’s even from the same anti-USC viewpoint anyway.

  4. Good news is that Clancy isn’t out yet. Loss of Baxter will be noticed. Our special teams have been exceptional this season, all we need is a season changing kicker.

Forget any future in video Wolf.

  5. Johnny Nansen is Sark’s butt buddy. His loss for us is addition by subtraction. Heyward & Sirmon are very good coaches. Wilcox is a great DC and would be great with USC’s talent. Lupoi wants to stay at UW.

    • This situation reminds me of former USC Coach Ted Tollner , because the administration at the time thought they could plug in anybody at the head coaching spot after John Robinson left for the Rams. But guess what ? Tollner won just enough games to not get fired justifiably, and USC was a average Team in the Pac 10 the whole time he was Coach. And that’s my prediction for Steve Sarkision….good recruiter but VERY average Coach.
