An NCAA Question Regarding Tosh Lupoi

Will the fact Steve Sarkisian even hired Tosh Lupoi be a factor that is weighed against him under the new NCAA guidelines that hold a coach responsible for rules violations by his staff? Lupoi already had a secondary violation at Washington before these latest charges and has been a controversial figure.

  1. Wolf, quit manufacturing news,

plenty going on to report on, especially with all of your “sources”.

  2. What, exactly, were the secondary violations? SB Nation reported he was accused by Cal of luring recruits to UW and has since been accused of luring UW recruits to USC.

Still, the NCAA is still searing from their numerous mistakes in prior investigations. They’re probably still worried about the McNair lawsuit.

    • UW said the recruiting violation occurred when Lupoi “publicized the visit of a prospective student-athlete who ultimately did not commit to UW by confirming information about the recruit to members of the DawgPack student section at a men’s basketball game.” NCAA rules do not allow schools to publicize the visits of prospective recruits.

      • Do you know if it is a violation to funnel students to other universities like Lupoi was accused of?

I’ve been Googling and asked Wolfie about it, but haven’t found/heard much.

      • I wonder if i should post the pic of the New Silverado that came from a very prominent UCLA booster when my cousin signed to play QB to show these trolls that they are far from clean…in FACT USC was the only one who offered him a scholarship and only a scholarship… everyone else … cash, cars , watches… etc… I thought the movie “Blue Chips” was a joke until my cousin became one of the number one passer in the country…USC didn’t really pursue him hard cause they had just brought in two top recruits the previous year, but Michigan , UCLA, Florida St… gave him a blank check …. oh Bobby T was a pretty slick talker.

      • Why are we afraid? The NCAA doesn’t want to release the documents.

You would think you would be sympathetic since your precious Neuheisel had a feud with the NCAA messing up an investigation.

      • Still not too late to bet. You’re so confident, then put some skin in the game!

Then again, if you were gone, I’d probably have no purpose being here anymore. LOL

  3. A Washington spokesman said secondary violations are very common, noting that in general most schools self report anywhere between 10-15 secondary violations each year.

      • Yes … Now look at us …. One win from 10 …. Down in the dumps is are program … And you guys are at ??? Oh that’s right … Best season in years …. 9 wins and a Sun Bowl …. We dumped our coach …. Twice …. You gave yours a raise …. Yes indeed …. Expectations are somewhat higher at Southern Cal …Look at us last year of sanctions and you ve gained no ground …. Whatsoever …. A couple of wins doesn’t change a legacy, and that kills you inside every waking moment … You know it’s true when I say we’ll win the conference again before you do…. Yup you just felt that sinking feeling in your gut …. It’s called reality !!! The light- headed feeling … We’ll that’s your denial of the inevitable

You guys were talking Rose Bowl… Our coach we canned him not give him an extension … every move you guys make only makes the point that expectations are lowering with every move you guys meet … theirs nothing you can say to change that .. nothing …

          • what’s greater 46 0r 30 ??? lol …haha the only stat you have on us is losses …Don’t know if you learned the difference of Macro and Micro at the fabricated biz-econ major you “have ” … heck your own alums donate to our biz programs …lmfao !!! • You would know about things shoved down your throat bum ! From what I hear. So do Alford coached players

          • type … type… i type nonsense… I refuse to believe fact… that our Football program is awful.. everyone knows we have more losses than USC… why can’t they get on this loser bandwagon of mine… i FEEL ALL ALONE !!!

      • LOL poking fun at UCLA basketball…nice loss to Long Beach State. But hey, at least you still dominate in football. Oh, wait, no you don’t…

  5. Your assumption is that this all revolves around Lupoi – problem is who gave him the money? $4,500 is not chump change – where’d it come from? Any thread leading to any other member of the staff and this is going to go bad real fast.

    • Real fast. But it will end with Lupoi. He won’t give anyone else up unless he want to give up coaching.

And unless the NCAA finds more, it will not make an example out of this case like it did with USC/Bush. Coming down hard on a program that should have known about cash, cars and a house for his family is one thing. Doing the same because a program/coach should have known about an underprivileged kid who received tutoring and a test prep course is another. I don’t recall, but I do not think Pete received any show cause order or similar re the Bush scandal. It was on the school and athletic department, not the coach. This is a bad start for Sark, but it will be forgotten in a few months.

I still can’t figure out what questions Wolf is asking in the post.

      • Joe you’re probably right about Lupoi but I doubt Davis has the same attitude – someone knows where the money came from besides Lupoi – weirder still why not pay the Kaplan guy directly? I believe I read he (Kaplan)was related to Davis. How often did Davis provide clients to Kaplan? Did Davis ever pay Kaplan direct for other athletes as he did for Basham? I get that education firms are always looking for clients but that whole scenario at that track meet has something ‘planned’ about it – I believe in the end Davis is the one that is going to have a lot of explaining to do – just a hunch – because if Lupoi can credibly deny and show he had no access to that kind of money it all comes back to Davis and his account of how this all went down.

Davis paid with a check for a reason – why?

        • You’re correct: LA Times reported Davis had a relative that worked for Kaplan. Apparently, that relative was also at the track meet and was the one who told Lupoi that there were classes Basham could attend.

  6. I wonder if Steve Sarkision is really shaking in his boots , because he is coming across as being cool as a cucumber in all of this . Either he really is innocent or he’s playing something off .

  7. I’m guessing wolf doesn’t proofread his posts. The first sentence is incomprehensible.

  8. USC isn’t involved the worst thing that could happen is Sark (not yet an employee) gets slapped with a show cause from the NCAA and Haden has to reflip the coin

    • Exactly, we would benefit from a redo and get one of the 8-10 newly fired NFL coaches to take over.
