    • Sadly his point was to manufacture a story so he could take a jab at Haden with his tacked-on comment about not being from the South Bay area. This is typical Scottie BS.

  2. Hey Wolfie. Breaking news for you. The NFL and college football are two different leagues. Men vs boys. Draft and free agency vs recruiting. Light years apart. Just ask Spurrier, Holtz, Saban, et al.

    • Amen Jack amen! All three were lousy as NFL coaches in fact Holtz quite the Jets in 1976. Spurrier was a disaster with DC and Saban’s micro control got him nothing but contempt with the Dolphins.

      He coaches college now. He recruits well by Vanderbilt standards.

      Why wasn’t he even interviewed before hiring Sark the median?

      • Can’t answer that but I’m sure Haden and KF can. Also, something about a rape investigation turns people off. Also, pressure of coaching at VANDY isn’t remotely like USC. Also, maybe Franklin doesn’t want to move to southern Calif. Does he have important ties or connections here? Why interview a guy who never expressed interest in the job? And if Franklin wants to stay in the SEC, another bigger job will open soon. Maybe Franklin told his agent USC wouldn’t be his cup of tea. Ever think of that? But the point is, who cares what the NFL thinks? That’s where Monte Kiffin still has a job, somehow.

  5. Maybe he indicated to USC that he wants a pro job. Haden didn’t want to offer the job to a guy who would turn him down.

    An enterprising journalist might use this new dangled contraption called a “telephone” and ask Franklin. Just a thought.

    • Haden also said he wanted a coach for 5, 10, 15 years, so if Franklin hinted he wanted an NFL job in the future then he wasn’t what Haden was looking for.

  10. Of course, there’s nothing there that says the NFL is interested in him as a head coach, just that they’re interested in him.

    And why would they be interested in him as a head coach? He has no real accomplishments other than pulling Vandy from bottom feeder to strictly middle rung team.

    Maybe in a few years, IF he shows he’s actually capable of sitting at the big boy table, this post might have some kind of meaning. That time hasn’t come yet.
