USC Scholarship Count

With George Uko turning pro, USC would probably be right at 75 scholarship players if it used all 19 scholarships for its recruiting class. So if Marqise Lee (and/or Hayes Pullard) turned pro, the Trojans would be under the allowed 75.

  1. something positive from Wolf, oh yea it is the last day of the year…have to get one in for 2013

      • Don’t worry — he already made up for it with another “must be from the South Bay” comment.

        • Hmm ‘South Bay’ – yeah baby – BTW the ‘de rigeur’ apparel of the ‘players’ that reside there are:

          1. SUV
          2. two day growth of beard
          3. baseball cap
          4. long sleeve turtle neck
          5,.sunglasses
          6. skinny as h3ll
          7. watches those lazy skankers playing ‘beach volleyball (check these festive names ‘Sinjin Smith’ ‘Karch Karay’ ‘Randy Stoklos’ ‘Kent Steffies’

Sounds like the MB version of the homage to the ‘Beach Boys’ called ‘The Bleach Boys’ – yeah you know just like ‘Mike Love’ they’re all digging a ‘…French Bikini…” Mike Love….going bald fast….

oh almost forgot the most important factoid – resides WEST of Sepulveda ‘but’ NOT under any circumstance in ‘El Porto’!

  2. Based on the butt whipping inflcted upon VA Tech by UCLA (42 – 12) their program is at a level of skill I haven’t seen since the late 60’s under Prothro i.e. Mora is that good a coach.

Also haven’t seen this collection of coaching talent conference wide since that era – McKay-USC, Ralston-Stanford, Willesey-CA, Owens-WA, Andros-OR St. and Prothro-UCLA.

Mora has stated he has no desire to go back to the pros and I believe him – I see Sarkisian wanting nothing to do with the NFL either nor Shaw and Helfrich has some seasoning to go through. Right now Shaw and Mora are the two best coaches in the conference pending how all recruit and how Sarkisian strategizes for the 2014 season with a final year of restrictions in tow.

Before fellow hoplites begin moaning my praise for Mora understand how truly crippled we would be today had 1. Kiffin been retained 2. Orgeron offered the job and 3. where TX finds itself this evening – no coach and recruiting season set to begin in < a week.

I'd say UCLA has a legitimate shot at a NC next year based on their opening in TX as well as playing a tough conference schedule but there is also one caveat and that is Mora's thin skin – if you haven't heard him with reporters when he gets ticked it is something and I'm not talking about the cell phone and the kid that died down in San Clemente incident – other incidents.

Next year can't get here soon enough – "Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war!"

    • Plus his offensive coordinator calls quirky plays in the Red Zone that backfire. That will come back to haunt the ruins in a big game next year.

      • Quirky? What do YOU recommend that Mazzone call?

It’s funny that nobody was questioning his red zone playcalling last year. Know why? Because he actually had some redzone weapons. Not having your redzone TE and an RB that can stay healthy makes a world of difference.

Once they started getting Myles Jack in the RB mix, I’m willing to bet their red zone production improved.

          • Come on …. be rational … Hundley is a once in a decade for the Gutties… if guys had another Five Star waiting in the wings … I’d give you a chance, but Woulard isn’t Hundley… he’s not and expecting him to be…well get comfy with Nue Jr.

    • Don’t forget about Todd Graham.

Mora has indeed done an awful lot to change the culture in his first 2 years. However, if Hudley goes pro, the new red shirt waiting in the wings will have a tough act to follow (A. Wollard? ) .. unlike Hundley, he won’t have a stud senior RB to lean on and a clutch 3rd down target that’s 6’8″.

I personally will be there at the start of spring camp to see how Max Browne will respond. I hope he’s drinking a weight gainer shake as we speak and beefing up to at least a true 215 pounds.

      • Graham’s looking for the next train out of town – his lack of preparation for both the Stanford and TX Tech game was telling esp. the latter. TX Tech dropped five in a row before they flattened AZ St. yesterday. That lack of focus doesn’t just ‘appear’ it’s all oh him – Graham i.e. Graham is the one who called and calls all the AZ St. defensive plays – all of them.

I don’t see him winning anywhere near 10 games next year – man does he want that TX job and he ain’t gonna’ get it.

      • I’m not convinced on Mora though he is worlds away from Neuheisel. Hundley is consistently the leading rusher and passer of the team. If they lose him (they won’t, not this year), they better have an answer because they are mediocre at best without him.

The trolls always talk about Woulard, but his release is weird. Even when not backpeddling, he sort of just pops the ball up and is constantly throwing high. Maybe he’s nervous – he clearly doesn’t like the pocket. His stock rose late in recruiting though. I guess it is impressive when you consider he was a WR for the first one or two years of HS. His running ability is what sets him apart but he seems to have gotten slower in the later tapes he released.

Still – Mora needs to be developing Woulard now and recruiting WRs and RBs hard. There is still a talent gap at UCLA and they can capitalize on one more year of sanctions.

        • Woulard is going to be a GREAT quarterback who will torment lowly So Cal just like Hundley has done the last TWO years (and hopefully will for at least ONE MORE). Woulard OUT SHINED every other 4-5 star high school Quarterback (including Max Browne) at last year’s season ending Elite quarterback camp and the Coaches (Noel Mazzone) are VERY IMPRESSED with all facets of this young mans game. Coach Mazzone works with several NFL Quarterbacks on throwing mechanics, during the off season and is always sought after for his expertise. While Hundley is known for his GAMEBREAKING Plays and scrambling, but at this point, Woulard is probably the better passer.

The BRUINS also anticipate signing heralded running back MIXON after the 1st of the year. With a solid O-Line, DEEP D-Line, One of the Country’s best set of Linebackers, and a talented Defensive backfield, look for the Bruins to finish on top of the Conference next year and be in the hunt for National Title Honors (nothing mythical here!).
          fit Un!

          • TL;DR

Hey, two questions. Do you even understand football? What GIVES with THE Aspie capitalization? Lulz.

          • Too many tacos and beers, idiot! You sound like the typical ruin fan -“next year will be our year, next year will be our year! Fuc, many years do you get?

          • Reminds me when Dorrell went 10-2, the Ruins were back according to their fans…until they weren’t the following year.

Then again, can you ever take a team seriously when the series started with UCLA getting scorched 76-0?

          • Never felt we were back with Dorrell. The 2 losses were blowouts and a bunch of narrow comeback wins. The biggest 10-2 mirage ever. Feel free to underestimate Mora by comparing him with Dorrell if you like, but I doubt that Sark will make that mistake. The recruiting battles will be intense. Mora will compete for recruits where Dorrell just bent over for Pete.

          • Why don’t you just draw your little bathroom pictures and resort to your middle school humor. I am not disrespecting you here, so relax.

          • Interesting conversation with the likes of TrojanFan, 2.0 and 3.0.

Frankly just talking football and about the games. I am not posting a bunch of negative crap if you look. I leave that to some of the others…not my deal.

          • Whatever. Apparently you take this a lot more seriously than I do. It’s just a blog/bulletin board. It isn’t life.

          • Ok, rah rah. You can put your head in the sand and pretend all is pretty but when one player is responsible for 70-90% of the offense at any given time, there is an issue. It isn’t to say collapse will happen, it is to say Mora has work to do.

          • I agree We didn’t get much rushing from our running backs. We need to recruit a top-notch RB or RB’s. We need to develop our OL further. We have 2 outstanding LB;s to replace. So, not sure what you mean by rah rah. Might be confusing me with someone else.

We still have not beaten Stanford or Oregon when we needed too. We have both at home next year and that is a great opportunity, but we didn’t show enough this year. We need to get it done next year, with either QB.

          • You better hope Mariotta gets hurt … cause when healthy …he’s the best in the country hands down and unstoppable. If he stays healthy, which is hard to do for how much he runs… Ducks go 12-0 next year…. lot of guys coming back and lots of speed on their two deep.

          • Trogans love to live in the past, as if Dorrell has anything to do with this program today. I just hope SC decides to show up for our game next year, unlike this year!

          • Either you don’t know football or you need to see a doctor and ask why your cranium is residing around your gluteus maximus.

        • Yup….and Woulard and Hundley are VERY different QBs.

Woulard is a “run first” QB — which might work for the teams that lack fundamentals on defense, but the defenses are quickly adapting to the spread / running QBs.

The hole left by Fauria’s departure will get even deeper when Shaq Evans leaves. Mazzone was never a fan of the TE position and his “no #1 WR” mentality ends up costing the Bruins on 3rd downs and in the red zone. Even Woulard’s legs won’t be able to make up for the lack of a clutch receiver.

    • If hundley leaves forget it. QB is the most valuable and hardest to replace position in college football. Just ask Pete!

    • Surprisingly find myself in agreement with the Politburo here. Strongest group of coaches I can remember in the league, from top to bottom. It just keeps getting more interesting.

  3. WOW, that’s really good arithmetic SW. Makes total sense. Sark will get whatever number of players he has ON & OFF scholarships ready to play with Ivan increasing their endurance, speed, & quickness. Just like moRa did with ucla. Sark will beat nd in the Coliseum in 2014.

    • I agree – Notre Dame will continue to slowly decline into some myth as the east coast fans do with the moribund Yankees – just listen to any NYC sports radio show and, no exaggeration, in any given hour you’ll hear some moron call in about “…my dad, my uncle, my cousin or ‘I’ remember: Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle blah blah – it never ends and that is where Notre Dame will find itself in < 5 years – palookaville – that deal they inked with the ACC is their own death knell. That conference is on the way out regardless of FL St. this year and the biggest issue facing Notre Dame is if: Clemson, FL St., VA Tech or even Miami-FL book to the SEC or Big 12 as MD has to the Big 10.
