Which Coaching Job Is Bigger: Texas Or USC?

STRONG

Texas is using the same search firm (Korn Ferry) as USC and the search firm reportedly gave Louisville coach Charlie Strong a high recommendation. Vanderbilt’s James Franklin and Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio are also being interviewed.

So did Korn Ferry (an annoying name if ever there was one) give Strong a high recommendation for USC? Maybe not. Korn Ferry probably inserted “South Bay experience” as a key component at USC.

  1. As someone actually IN Austin this week, I can tell you Mora is not being considered. Charlie Strong, James Franklin, and Art Briles are the three on the likely list. Jimbo Fisher is their dream candidate.

My “inside” source is the Austin American-Statesman.

    • Where is betomas when you need him? O’ wait, he’s trying to get his $29.95 back, what a feel believes!

    • You in Austin?….I didn’t realize the Circus stopped in Texas. U Stupid Clowns are everywhere.
      fit Un!

      • You really need to try harder, Chuckles. The quality of your trolling is really substandard now. Maybe you need a refresher course from troll school. UCLA has an extension class for you, right?

          • 2:00 am, still trolling the blog, pathetic! What the fuc is wrong with you? You need to get a REAL life.

    • TF, you are so full of crap. Mora is being strongly considered……to clean the s h ! TT ers in the locker room. How dare you try to hide it!

  2. TX won NC’s in 1963, 1970 and 2005 – three in 43 years. USC has won Same time frame) seven 1962, 1967, 1972, 1974, 1978, 2003 and 2004.

Now maybe some believe TX is a ‘bigger’ job ’cause everything’s bigger in TX but based on that comparison it sure doesn’t produce NC’s the way Troy has nor Heisman winners (all won in that same time frame – 11 – Garrett, Simpson, White, Allen, Palmer, Leinart and yes Bush

    • Texas is prepared to pay $10 million annually to grab a guy like Fisher. Heck they paid the decrepit Mack Brown $5 million. That is why it’s the bigger job. Haden wasn’t prepared to spend anywhere near that.

Texas doesn’t share any of the money from the Longhorn Network with the rest of the conference. That was their condition to join the PAC-12. The conference refused, and all tv and bowl revenues are shared nearly equally. THAT is why they can spend that much on a coach. And that is why the Texas job is a bigger job–the biggest in the country.

Heck even Brian Kelly at Notre Dame was mentioned. It was not that they couldn’t get him. They don’t think he has the recruiting contacts in the state of Texas to succeed in Austin.

      • TF – you’re right – you know where TX is about to get reamed is the expectations – look TX had one decent decade since t 1970 and that decade ended over 7 years ago. The problem they have is their search committee has to deal with a fan base that has no patience. This is where USC is very fortunate – the sanctions (post-season and scholarships) made Troy radioactive to the point that they had to settle for Kiffin. That gave Troy four years to absorb the hit w.o. expectations save the one for last year (2012) and even that implosion rid the fan base that somehow Troy was invincible – Kiffin’s gone, Coach O gave all he had and that’s all he had – gone, So 5 coaches (long-short-momentary in the past four (overall 13 yrs.) years of play – compare that to TX – 1 coach for the past 15 years. USC fans have finally learned to be patient – TX fans haven’t a clue – finally the real problem for TX is the entire conference save KS all have good to great coaches – no time for getting it right

      • Tell that to ‘Bama and ND. Schools that have actually won college football championships laugh at schools like UCLA. You can’t even get voted #1 – because you never are.

          • Achieved by UPI vote. You don’t see UCLA fans running around with their thumbs in their but squealing about FB NC’s like Succ fans. Succ fans go nuts when they luck out and just beat Sanford.

          • “Hey Wilma, the little gutties couldn’t win the conference championship again. What’s new? HeySuxx says it doesn’t matter. He’s right. The little gutties don’t ever matter…”

        • Yawn. Post something relevant Jackie. Selected by votes and won by competition are two different propositions.

          • It’s been 60 years little gutty. And you haven’t even won a conference championship in 15. Ha, ha, ha. Go ahead, ignore history. You have no choice. Your history stinks. Sorry little gutty. You’re the definition of also ran and you just beat a totally mediocre 5-loss VT team. How many NCs has SC won? You can’t even count that high. I’m bragging. That’s what ND, SC, ALA and OHIO ST fans do. We be bragging!!!

      • WHY WHY WHY? you try way too hard. We all continue to laugh at you. Are you familiar with the word “self-respect”?

          • Wow. I thought you were dumb, but your NC comment proves you are terrible at basic argumentation.

And, again, your lack of basic knowledge of UCLA football or culture is astounding. When I said you sound like a 13 year old bandwagoner, I really think you might be. Have you ever heard of Mike Filonczuk? Ask him about the going bare versus bear thing. Apparently Ruins are fans of their protection. Lulz.

      • So you would argue that there has never been a champion because there is no playoff?

If that’s the best troll argument you’ve got, you need a new hobby.

        • Not so. There has been a Champion, but that Nat. Championship was based on a subjective vote by various football organizations – somewhat similar to today’s Boxing alphabet titles. But at least those boxing champs must face an opponent in the ring to earn the championship. I do not dispute Succ was voted its NC’s, but those NC’s were not earned against competitive opponents for the honor.

          • Why, because USC blew out Oklahoma? And was this a lame troll against USC since the 2005 Championship Game between Texas and USC is pretty much universally acknowledged to be the best championship game ever. It ranks among the great college football games ever.

At least make your lame attempts at trolling plausible.

        • HeySuxx thinks that the football championships of the last era are null and void – or, at the very least, are inferior to the upcoming championships. His reasoning is that the voting system is so subjective that teams don’t really have to prove themselves because they do not have to play in a playoff type system.

However, in the little mind of HeySuxx, this new playoff system will be better because the champion will have to beat out everyone else to rise to the top. You see, HeySuxx really thinks UCLA will do this so that’s why he wants to champion the new system, so he can proceed to say that UCLA’s hypothetical multiple NCs under the new system will be far superior to USC’s actual multiple NCs under the old system.

HeySuxx cannot be accused of being a smart troll, but he is obvious.

          • I can’t figure out where all these little pukes come from so we can exterminate them in their nests.

      • They were awarded titles based on the system in place, what more could you ask for? You’re a fucing idiot.

  3. The problem with Strong is the question of who he has played and the rise of Bridgewater (actually – Mora is in the same boat. The real test for these two coaches is going to be how they can respond without star QBs that generate much of the offense given an average at best supporting crew).

Franklin has proven he can win the games the team is expected to win, but their record is abysmal when against teams with winning records.

USC chose Sark primarily because of recruiting needs and Sark is intimately familiar with the area (I don’t know why Scott thinks this is a bad thing). Sark will be solid for the next few years as long as he brings in good classes. He has proven he can win at Washington, so as long as USC can continue 9 to 10 win seasons a few wins against rivals, the AD will be happy.

    • Most importantly he must fill the Coli and not get “boo’ed” – $700 mill in renov’s is not cheap!

      • And don’t forget the Coli needs a remodel, per the new lease agreement, and that same $700 million will make that task much more affordable.

        • Yes – via the OC Register, 10% of the renovations need to be completed by 2024. Plus, USC has a lot of on campus renovations happening from the Village to general beautification. Money is king.

  4. That’s a good list of candidates. I saw that AD interviewed, and he seemed smart. He did well with Graham at ASU.

However, there is no point in persisting about USC’s hire. Let’s see what happens.

If Sark is smart, he will coldly critique his work at UW, which was no great shakes. Then he will implement some changes in how he operates, to get a better result. If he’s complacent, this won’t be his dream job, either.

    • You’d think Texas would want to interview Sarknado. Because according Succ’s AD, Sarknado is the best HFBC Succ: the Unique University, could obtain. Therefore I think Texas should be sniffing around HH.

  5. Just shows Korn Ferry was a Dog and pony show. and PH had his mined made up from day one.

    • Now that is funny! More like his pop’s is gonna’ be lookin’ w. Lane for a job after Jerry Jones sacks Monty.

Strong seems to be the one most are naming and Briles’ name has popped up regardless of his signed extension w. Baylor ‘but’ now w. PA St. in play word has it Franklin might be moving back to his home state of Pennsylvania.

TX needs to secure a coach quickly

  6. Sorry Wolf, I am sure Korn Ferry consulted with Haden as to what components weighed the most. I don’t think Haden would let them run totally independent of the schools desires.
