Memo To Pac-12 Commish Larry Scott

CAREY

I asked Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott before the Stanford game about all the night games this season that limited conference visibility. Scott countered that night games and shown across the country and not on regional networks like in the past.

But who is awake to see them?

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News pointed out Arizona tailback Ka’Deem Carey outgained Boston College’s Andre Williams, 169-75, in the Advocare V100 Bowl but Williams got a lot more Heisman Trophy votes because Carey was either playing at night or on the unviewable Pac-12 Network.

    • I couldn’t have said it better.

And by wasting time opining, Wolf runs the risk of compromising his routinely inaccurate and negatively-biased reporting of week old news to which we’ve become accustomed.

  1. What is the “inside” part to this blog…? How about some recruiting updates or interviews. Instead, it’s one negative post after another followed by comments from girls in powder blue still high after their big Sun Bowl victory.

    • The format gets Wolf clicks. That’s all that matters to the Daily News. Reporting, not so much.

Snotty posts start flame wars, which results in more clicks. A recent feel-good post on LaJuan Ramsey generated zero comments. Snide posts generate 20, 30, maybe 40 comments, mainly Bucket and Suxx and FightOn and TrojanFan insulting each other.

      • I noticed that, too; nobody said a word about that chef story, the last time I looked.

      • Wang is a fairly decent sportswriter who doesn’t gravitate toward sensationalism–and receives less comments. All Wolf has to do is slap down a post entitled “USC vs UCLA” and write a grammatically crippled sentence about who owns L.A. now, and you get 90 posts from emotionally stunted grown ups fixated with the toilet and dubious sex*ual practices.

  2. This is one soapbox that Scott can and should stand on, as opposed to just about everyhting else he posts.

There needs to be a rethinking of Thursday night games. Someone needs to explain to Larry Scott how time zones work.

    • And remember, Larry Scott brought us the Pac12 network which only half of us get and has the worst production of a football game ever seen.

    • Agreed–and let’s not forget (though sometimes it’s easy to) that these kids are students. It’s gotta throw them off to have game prep on a Wednesday, game on Thursday, and rest day on Friday…how about class?!

  3. Can’t wait til Wolf finds out his crush Kiffin got the OC position at Bama. He will be talking bout that for the next year without a doubt.

    • If it happens, AD Gargamel will arrogantly criticize the decision ignoring the fact that Nick Saban forgets more football in a day than AD Gargamel has learned in a lifetime.

In some twisted logic AD Gargamel will then infer from the hiring that his new man crush, James Franklin, should be USC’s head coach.

And to cap it off, he will then run another stupid poll asking if USC or Alabama has the best coaching staff in America.

  4. Since Carey out-gained Williams several weeks AFTER the Heisman vote, I don’t see what their head to head numbers have to do with the price of tea in China.

    • It shows that Kadeem was a better player than Williams but nobody East of Pinetop ever saw Kadeem play on national TV since so many of our Pac 12 games are on so late.

      • True, but as Colin Cowherd said on his show this morning, most voters of sports awards are morons. Seeing Ka’Deem in action probably wouldn’t have swayed them anyway. Zona lost too many games for him to garner serious attention. Not sure how Williams even got as much respect as he did, as BC had a similar number of losses – but he did lead the nation in total yards, a stat they probably looked up right before filling out the final name on their ballot.

  5. Hey Scott Wolf.. or it could be the fact that Andre Williams ran for over 2K yards, might have been the reason he got more Heisman votes than Carey!

Or Its Arizona! IF UCLA IS IRRELEVANT TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL.. Arizona is worse!

  6. I hate playing Stanford after playing SC. If UCLA defeats SC–a tall order next year, even with Hundley back–it means the Bruins could play Stanford two weeks in a row again. Bad scheduling!

  7. Hey I get the PAC12 Network now 3 of them that show the same thing at the same time. Great stuff it is…
