Nick Saban On Lane Kiffin’s Limited Role At Alabama

SABAN

Nick Saban made his first live comments about Lane Kiffin today in a brief interview with Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.com.

“I’ve known him for a long time,” Saban said. “I always thought he was a really good coach. All his issues come from something we’re not asking him to do.”

Saban is right. Kiffin won’t have to run a program or lead a team. And he won’t have to speak to the media.

No more issues!

  1. He also won’t have to talk to Scotty. He’s got 99 problems and a Wolf ain’t one.

But, in all seriousness, one of his issues was calling the plays. So, you know.

  2. You’re suffering from separation anxiety! Relax and don’t try so hard, we get it!

  3. Oddly candid comments on a coaching hire, but may be a good thing for Kiffin.

I always thought he would do very well in a limited coaching capacity (coordinator instead of head man), and now we’ll see if that’s true.

  4. In all seriousness, he will probably do a fine job there and will likely be competing with us for some of the “pro style” offense type recruits.

    • Plus one.

Moreover, if Kiffin has gained a little humility, he will be able to learn a LOT about being a successful head coach.

Sexton, the agent for Saban AND Kiffin, has engineered a strategic win-win for both men.

Now, Scott, let’s move on, once and for all. Who’s going to coach the DL?
