Georgia defensive line coach Chris Wilson is having second thoughts about coming to USC, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Does anyone want this job? Let’s quickly review the defensive line coaches for USC the past four months: Ed Orgeron, Pete Jenkins, Ross Cumming, Bo Davis, Chris Wilson?
The worst part of this is if Wilson stays at Georgia, the Ed Orgeron speculation will start again.
Scott, I wouldn’t read too much into it. But…it is peculiar.
USC has an All-America coming back, an excellent transfer, a JC star, and several players very much sought after while in high school. The HC is in his first year, and will be around for awhile.
It was 75-80 degrees and sunny today–January 16. There is no shortage of pretty girls, things to do, or places to eat.
In short, a DL coach could do a lot worse.
Maybe Wilcox is a drag to work with. I don’t know.
Yah, it’s never USC’s location, staff, or administration.
I didn’t attend USC, so I’m speaking from a dispassionate POV.
Location: I have known quite few alumni over the years, and never heard that complaint. Not sure why not , but never heard it. The fact is that downtown L.A. has become much more exciting than it used, the night scene is definitely in Hollywood, the Metro stops at USC, etc. You may be right, but I’d have to hear a lot more.
Staff: I think LK had some deterring qualities, but Sark seems quite congenial, and it’s at least somewhat telling that so many of his Wash. staff were willing to move.
Administration: Haden has fallen in my eyes, but not because I think he’s a bad guy. I think he’s a nice Catholic boy. He does, in fact, lack experience at this job function, and that has led to some issues. He does not, however, micromanage his coaches. I don’t see the admin. as much of an issue.
Scott, why don’t YOU take this position and end ALL speculations?

He had to leave with Florida State’s Jeremy Pruitt taking over as DC. Look what we are getting: In 2013 Georgia ranked only eighth in the Southeastern Conference in total defense and 78th in the nation in scoring defense. Georgia gave up 29 points per game to rank 78th in the nation, gave up 323 yards rushing in their loss to Auburn, and the Bulldogs finished 8-5 including a loss to Nebraska in the Gator Bowl. The upside is he can recruit the Southeast for us.

Yes as an overall defense, but their run def went from 4.1 YPC to 3.7 YPC under Wilson, had like 20 more tackles behind lime of scrimmage and increased sacks. Plus this guy can recruit. Good get, if he stays.
BabyBoy22 is a tough sell. He’s still intently focused on USC’s bowl loss to GT. The simpleton wah, wah just can’t get over it and also doesn’t understand the difference between a DC and a DL coach. The sky’s always falling with this welfare recipient creep. He’s gonna try to sneak into the Heritage Hall re-opening ceremony without paying.
Georgia’s D-line was the only bright spot on the defense. HE’S THE D-LINE COACH, NOT COORDINATOR.
Not everyone is willing to commute back and forth like Orgeron, so they would have to move here (not sure where Wilson is from originally). Talk about culture shock. Plus, you’re replacing a legend (at least in the player’s minds) at a sanction riddled roster. Tough job.

I would like to nominate Joseph B. Lowe for DL Coach. He meets all the criteria. Loves SC more than even Coach O. Won’t leave Haden’s office crying. In fact, Haden might leave crying. He has the right amount of nasty to teach the kids. He already lives in Manhattan Beach and won’t need to relocate. He’s used to getting down and dirty in the trenches. He has plenty of time on his hands to get the job done. The only question mark is, can he recruit?
