This is a joke, really, when it gets written that Corona Centennial defensive lineman Austin Malaota “decommitted” from USC. Malaota wants to go to USC and committed immediately after offered a scholarship.
But he is no longer wanted. USC decommitted from him. Malaota did not decommit from USC. Remember that the next time you berate a recruit for switching his commitment.
Or another school for doing the same.

It happens everywhere, Scott. Not that big of a deal, especially with a new staff and a very limited # of scholarships available. If SC thinks they are getting Smith and Mama and possibly some others, then they need to create room for them. It’s called math.
It’s what happens during the Denise & Lamar Griffin Memorial Sanctions…..Other schools can take all comers. Unfortunately, greedy #5 made that impossible for us now 9 years later….

Nobody from USC denies that we should be punished to a lesser degree. I hope you’re newfound success does not result in similar hanger-ons desperate to make a name for themselves by blowing the whistle first. With sincerity, I do not wish that injustice upon anyone again. If you see no problem in the injustice, you are blinded by hate.

Scott teaching us a lesson. Wow, we sure will remember that the next time a recruit goes against his word. There should be no such thing as a commit until signing day, then nobody gets called names.
This might drum up drama on an espn blog, where most of the posters are uninformed. But here, it’s just another day at the office.
I wish the kid well. This is Sark replacing the “questionables” with his style recruits, I have no problem with it.

Happens at every school Wolfie, for once in your journalist life(did I really say that) report and speak the norm and don’t make appear that it only occurs at SC.
I don’t blame Sark for not keeping a recruit that he wouldn’t have recruited. It’s just business. He did the kid a favor by getting this de-commitment out of the way as early as possible. This move, and probably 2 (Dorton/Fields) more moves will open 3 scholly’s for better players that the coaches would rather sign.
I am very sorry and disappointed to hear this. Times have changed: Commitments don’t mean much anymore. All the best to Austin.
SC wanted him but only as their 24th or 25th schollie under normal circumstances. With the reductions, Sark can’t miss on a player.
Let’s see,,,USC decommitted …or a new coach is not quite as interested as previous one,so the athlete decommitts,’cause he wants a coach to recruit him like the others…the offer was not changed by USC,he could have remained committed and proven himself to new coaches;that is the truth,and you always choose the school because you want your degree from that school and want to play for them,if possible.Sorry he decommitted,he should have stayed and proven himself.
