USC Warns Fans On Contacting Recruits

The USC compliance office issued a statement:

“As National Signing Day approaches for numerous sports on campus, we would like to take this opportunity to remind the Trojan Family not to contact any of our prospective student-athletes via social media.  We know Trojan Nation is excited for another great class full of wonderful student-athletes, however it is against NCAA rules for anyone other than our coaches to recruit.

Please refrain from reaching out via Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media platforms to any prospect as it may have ramifications for USC and the prospect (e.g. a prospect’s NLI may be deemed null and void if we have a recruiting violation). Help keep USC Athletics free from violations, and on the path to championships!

Remember… LEAVE THE RECRUITING TO OUR COACHES!!!”

USC Morning Buzz: Recruiting Rankings Mean What Again?

Signing day is a week away and USC is obviously waiting for the Big Three (Adoree Jackson, Damien Mama, John Smith) to announce their decisions. But generally speaking how important are individual recruiting rankings?

Look at the USC players who were selected for this year’s Pro Bowl:

Tyron Smith:  A five-star offensive lineman.

Ryan Kalil: A three-star offensive linemen.

Jordan Cameron: Went to BYU on basketball scholarship before he transferred to USC to play football.

Troy Polamalu: Barely on radar playing at tiny high school in Oregon and only got scholarship to USC because Kennedy Pola convinced Paul Hackett to give him one.

Montague Kiffin Gets A `Promotion’

The Dallas Cowboys relieved Monte Kiffin of defensive coordinator duties and gave him the ambiguous title of assistant head coach/defense. Kiffin will no longer have defensive coordinator duties, which are being handed to former USC assistant coach Rod Marinelli.

So the Kiffins ran USC/Dallas Cowboys defense into the ground this year but they have the last laugh because of the combined millions they raked in doing it.

Does USC Want Linebacker Drew Lewis?

Linebacker Drew Lewis of Sammamish, Wash., who committed to Washington under Steve Sarkisian and received an offer from new Coach Chris Petersen but says he will decide between USC and the Huskies.

Lewis has not actually been offered by USC but made an official visit. Whether USC has enough scholarships to take someone like Lewis remains an issue.

Adoree Jackson Recruiting Rumor Of The Day

His mother is supposedly coming out from Illinois to Southern California to help the five-star recruit make his college decision. Does that help USC? Right now there is buzz for Tennessee but if he visits USC this weekend don’t the Trojans become the presumed leader?
