Former USC cornerback Terrell Thomas, who plays for the New York Giants, drew attention this week with his comments to the New York Post on Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to enter the NFL Draft.
“I don’t believe in it, I don’t respect it, but if that’s what you want to do, so be it,’’ Thomas said. “I can’t speak for the NFL or our team or the locker room, I just know what goes on and what type of situation it’s going to put a lot of guys in.”
“The biggest thing is the media, hearing that a bunch of 18 and 20 year olds can accept him, why can’t a bunch of grown men in an NFL locker room? To be honest with you, the culture’s different. It is a brotherhood unlike no other.”

Steve, I don’t think you’re looking very deeply regarding this particular issue. Given the religious attitudes of many Americans, it goes a well beyond “Why is who someone sleeps with a big deal.” You and I are in Los Angeles, which is at one end of the spectrum. But the U.S. is not northern Europe–not by a long shot.
It seems like Terrell Thomas is of the same opinion as the vast majority of people. But the gay lobby will not be content until the vast majority endorses the homosexual lifestyle.

Sometimes people don’t know anyone around that is gay so they don’t understand. Most people are scared of what they don’t know. I grew up with two sisters that are gay, one who has been married for 16 years to her wife. I seen how happy my sister is and how loved she is. And really that’s what matters to me. Growing up around that environment, made me comfortable with gay people, because I know that there just people like everyone else.
