USC Morning Buzz: Adoree Jackson And No. 5

ADOREE

It is no secret incoming freshman Adoree Jackson would like to wear the No. 5 at USC, which was worn by Reggie Bush and retired after Bush won his Heisman Trophy. But some veteran USC players have advised Jackson not to even try to get the number unretired out of respect to Bush. We will see if he follows their advice.

  1. After what selfish Reggie did to USC why should we care what he thinks? Unretire the number and give it to Adoree!

  2. Wear number 5 and show the respect for the university that the previous lying coward did not.

  3. Some great Trojans give millions of dollars, or many years of hard work for no pay – all Reggie had to do was pay off a two bit hustler to save SC from years of sanctions – I say F him! Give this kid #5 and make it shine again!

    • …..and Reggie helped make the school 10’s of millions of dollars and his moments were electrifying!

      • Ya but dude, we would have NEVER lost to the likes of sUcla in terms of games, or any decent recruits without the sanctions – PERIOD.

      • And that win was vacated due to Reggie reneging on his agreement to pay Lake and Michaels $300,000, 0.3% of what he has made in the NFL and with endorsements. Reggie’s cheapness resulted in Pete leaving and innocent players being punished with 3 years of NCAA probation and having Kiffin as head coach.

  4. No. 5 should have been unretired the day Reggie was forced to give back the Heisman; it was retired because he won the Heisman and that is no longer true thanks to his back-stabbing family.

    • Back stabbing step-father. How is a kid suppose to control his greedy step-dad? If he knew what he was doing and reported him would that make it ok? Reggie earned that trophy on the field and it should never have been taken away!

      • You guys are missing the point – Sure, we all know the dealings between Lake and the step-father were a joke and quite possibly out of everybody’s control, including Reggie – BUT, here’s the kicker, he could have paid off Lake a measly $200K or some crap to SAVE SC – and he didn’t. SO F HIM – give somebody else a chance to shine in it, why not?

        • He wasn’t 18 when all the crap came down. His step father was a total sleezeball. the parents have divorced and Lamarr is living on the street.

          • Really??? Lamar the step-father lives on the streets with our boy Bucket? (tough life rooting for the Ruins and following an SC blog, enough to drive the kindest of souls CrAzY)

          • You and Lamar must be pretty good friends? He let you borrow his shopping card when he’s not using it.

      • same thing I’ve been saying…tell me 1 kid that can tell his parents what to do? that’s all on step dad, and I hope use will one day reconcile with reggie

  5. Reggie’s parents were the greedy ones. And the ncaa had it in for USC regardless. Reggie giving back the heisman, is like the bcs taking back the crystal ball. Don’t matter, you can’t take back the memories.

    • tell the truth! we all loved the kid before this happened, some of the most electrifying moments in Trojan history. hasn’t been anybody like him since. had he just been on the field against texas on that 4th and 2, we would have won that game. I love what reggie did for usc and you cant take it away. we all were watching…

  6. Out of respect for Reggie Bush ? Really ? Lmao !! As far as USC is concerned , that lying cheating fool that cost the University millions of dollars doesn’t even exist . From now on , the #5 jersey should be given to one of the kickers , or some walk on Quarterback .

    • but how many millions did usc and other schools make off bush and other kids like him? how many #5 jerseys were sold before sanctions? take a closer look at the “business” of college football. look at the ea sports ruling. the kids’ likenesses were being portrayed with NO compensation while the colleges and ea got paid. the NCAA is hypocritical, and most fans are blind to the fact.

  7. HAWR-HAWR!!!

    “Out of respect to Bush”????

He cost you the one crystal ball Petey managed to win and probably 2-4 more with sanctions and upheaval!!!

Whoever is saying “out if respect to Reggie” is a stone dumbbell!!!

Let’s see how many show up!!!

    • Good to hear your unbiased opinion Charlie ButtLik. By the way, what’s the hot topic on the ruin boards? Oh yeah, there are none. Must be nice not having to worry about heismans, and NCs.

    • Go back to bed, no one gives a shlt what you have to say. You’ve the Rodney Dangerfield of sports blogging- “I get no respect”

  8. I say leave the #5 retired because Reggie earned the Heisman on the field, what his parents did is a completely different story. Once an athlete always an athlete, its hard to do what he accomplished on the field… Understand one thing, most people on this message board weren’t even privy to Bush being recruited, so please keep your thoughts to yourself. Fight On since the Robinson days

  9. Buzz around town is that Patterson and Haden are in talks of moving the Texas home and home to Mexico City… If this happens, Haden should be fired.

  10. Even if Reggie’s number is semi-retirned, didn’t Mike Garrett give Darnell Bing permission to wear his retired number? Who cares? Let him wear it.

  11. I always assumed it was just the media that hated Bush. And I have not personally met an SC fan that blames him for the sanctions. I do not think am in the minority, but there are clearly those that disagree based on the comments here. I say ask for permission. I am sure Bush would give it.

The bigger issue is the athletic department would rather see the Bush scandal fade away. It Adore wears no. 5 every television broadcaster and newswriter will bring up the Bush scandal and make comparisons whenever Adore is mentioned, which I hope is like voting in Chicago, early and often.

    • Let the media continue to bring it up. It’s not like anybodies ever forgetting anyway – certainly not any of USC’s rivals. Worst NCAA penalty since SMU. Every college football fan already knows of it. Truth is, Reggie doesn’t deserve to have his number retired. By letting someone else use it, we relegate Reggie to a somewhat lesser player at USC, just like he relegated USC to a program that was labeled as a “cheater” and that had to forfeit numerous important victories and 30 rides to very deserving kids who wanted to be Trojans. Thanks Reggie Baby. We hardly knew ya, did we?

      • It’s not all Bush’s fault, Little Petey and Emperor Garret deserve major credit for ignoring an illegal situation, in favor of a lucrative FB NC. If Bush had been bounced early on SUCC would not have suffered sanctions.

        • There’s not an iota of evidence, not one, that PC or MG had the slightest inkling of Bush’s parents getting benefits way down in San Diego. None. The NCAA just said they should have known because of Bush’s stature as a player, but they never applied the same standard to other schools they investigated. This is none of your business any way and you don’t know jack about what the NCAA would have done in any factual scenario USC followed. Whatever they did would have been onerous and corrupt as long as Paul Dee was alive.

          • LoL, If Little Petey knew nothing, then why did he dodge/duck the NCAA SUCC investigation and not try to mitigate SUCC’s sins.

          • Sorry “Little Petey” made old Jimmy Mora look so stupid as the former Seahawks coach. Mora was so crappy they only let him coach one year. Now “Little Petey’s” a Super Bowl champ, making over 7 mil a year. Who would be stupid enough to turn down that gig? You maybe?

          • Reality check: Why are you so proud of Pete Carroll? He was three regimes ago for SC, and the program he left behind is a mere shell of what it was under his tenure. The gut kicker, however, is that Mora is UNDEFEATED against the gutty little troggies. Good luck with 7-win Sarkiffian!

  12. Reggie blew it. Sure, he had no control over his parents. None of us ever did. But it never seemed like he did much to help out USC while he moved on to quick riches at the expense of USC and our program has been dealing with his crappy fallout ever since. All Reggie ever said was, “I did nothing wrong.” Basically, he took the 5th and then let all the shenanigans come out publicly by refusing to settle it all in private despite his great newfound wealth. The NCAA was powerless to hassle him so they tried to sink USC. Reggie just stood by, signing up big commercial deals and smiling at Kardashian’s huge butt when not promoting his new brand identity. I say unretire #5 ASAP. Reggie was great and he moved on. Why can’t USC? Unretire #5 and let someone else bring a better legacy to it than some guy who literally had to give back the Heisman Trophy because he was too cheap and selfish to take care of the problem on his own.

    • Lake was asking for far more than money he allegedly gave. Lake was and is a criminal. It was simple blackmail and no matter what Reggie gave him he would have wanted more. What was Reggie supposed to do? Sign this criminal up as his agent? Pay Lake more than he was owed hoping he wouldn’t come back for more with the same threat of exposing Bush? Bush had no choice at that point.

Bush’s mistake was taking money in the first place. You can fault him for that, but not for refusing to pay hush money to a criminal.

      • One could write a book about all that Reggie did or did not really do wrong here. We’ll never know because Reggie ain’t talking and never will. He was a great football player at USC. But he and his crappy parents cost the school so much I would have to say he wasn’t worth it. I would much rather have missed the super Reggie highlights, lost a few more games and also missed waiting for the big investigation, waiting some more, getting completely hammered by a corrupt NCAA for things that Reggie’s family did that have never been linked to USC by any credible source. Truth is, Reggie was too good to be true, as most things are. And I still say he could have made everything go away. How do you think all the other potential scandals you’ve never heard of are handled? $$$$$. That’s how. Reggie had plenty of it and still does. Reggie should have bailed out his step-dad and simply said adios. At least he would have done what he could have and deserve some respect for that. But he didn’t and intentionally chose to let USC take the big fall. Unretire that #5!!! Give it to a new young Trojan and see what he can make of it.

  13. Give him the number. The other idiot relinquished any right he had by giving in to his greedy parents who wanted their share of his cash about 18 months before he became a multimillionaire. Denise & Lamar Griffin cost us years of sanctions – thanks mommy & daddy! Give Adoree the freakin’ number 5. It has no other meaning to us.

  14. Reggie Bush spent his illegal payola like a drunk sailor, and it is beyond my kin why SUCC fans actually believe Little Petey had zero knowledge of the Bush payola scam. LOL
