USC 9, North Dakota State 0

The Trojans are 6-0 to start the season as pitcher Bob Wheatley allowed three hits in six innings. Dante Flores hit a two-run homer.

  1. Cool. We shall see if this is equal competition to what our boys will see in the Pac-12

Meanwhile, SUCLA got creamed by lowly Stanford. Well, we don’t have to worry about SUCLA making an impact in the NCAAs, which puts them on a par with SC

    • that ONE WIN in conference has got feeling all tingly inside?….it’s almost as “good” as you seeing a multi car pile up on the “10”…huh John.
      fit Un!

    • Sorry, John. But USC is in a category all it’s own. I don’t normally comment on SC basketball because it is like taking lunch m money from a pre-schooler.

Enfield may turn it around. He has little to work with this year, but to compare SC with the Bruins, or any other team in the PAC-12 other than Wash. St….is ridiculous.

      • Then there’s that nasty reality of an ’80 yard’ practice field. Kind of like hoping those football facilities actually get built in time.

    • Let’s keep it realistic.
Lowly Farm is 17-8…a tad better than us. If a 9 point loss on the road is getting creamed, I wonder what a 21 point loss is classified as. To be currently on a “par” with ucla in hoops would necessitate us being awarded quite a few “Mulligans”.

  2. Great start for the 2014 season.

The program in most danger of a death spiral is UCLA. ‘If’ the VA-Sawtelle prevails in their claim of use of Jackie Robinson Field added to the yet to be built football facilities coupled with an 80 yd. practice field and a renovated basketball stadium that looks very similar to what it was prior to the renovation – good luck bel-air tech.

They lose that baseball stadium and John savage is gone and Guerrero knows it.

    • 2 things that possibly upset you, UCLA baseball and the name Jackie Robinson.

You may want to cool your jets and not strike up the funeral music for the baseball program just yet. Too bad your big hopes for SC baseball hinge on the possibility of bad things happening at UCLA. Can’t you just find a way to compete?

      • Find a way to compete? USC’s record against UCLA in baseball is 253-130. 12 national championships for USC, more than twice as many as any other school and you have 1. You’ll never, in the history of the world going forward, ever come close to catching us. Can’t you at least find a way to maybe get within 20-30 victories of us or within 3-4 NCs? Compared to USC, UCLA baseball is gnat, a swing and a miss, a balk. Good luck with the VA and all. In all likelihood, you’ll do a lot better against them than your baseballers have ever done against the Trojans, except the last few years. All hot streaks come to an end.

        • Gotta love Jack B. and his “When I was at USC…….” Yup,….back in the good ol’ days I used to walk 8 miles to school, up hill both ways….Hahahahahahaha… That’s why people everywhere call it Yesterday U!

          fit un!

          • Some day you’ll figure out history counts Brony Boy. 253-130. Some domination, huh. Why were you so bad for so long? Don’t worry. You’ll be back in the trough again. Oh, hope you can keep your baseball field. I hear you might lose it because it was never yours in the first place. Go Bronies! Beat Stanford! Sorry, wrong sport.

        • I was talking about now…not then. SC has not been competitive for a number of years now. The once great baseball program with more National Titles than anyone has become an afterthought on its own campus.

The latest attempt was to try and hire John Savage away from UCLA.

Yes, your long term assessment is correct. However, Rod Dedeaux is no longer around.

          • I do tend to always think long term. Dedeaux may be dead but he lives on, and always will, at USC, if only in statue form. Wooden anyone? We’ve been through some bad coaches in baseball. We’ll be back and our present is looking better and better. As far as Savage goes, all we did was drive up his salary for you, which is all any reasonable person ever expected. Congrats. He’s a damn good coach.

          • My father played baseball for Art Reichle at UCLA. He was also recruited by Dedeaux at SC, when Dedeaux was a young assistant. He told me that if Dedeaux had been the Head Coach, he would have probably gone to SC.

He is 87 now and he finally saw his Bruins win a National Title. It may only be 1 compared to 12, but that 1 made him a very happy man.

John Savage is an excellent coach and a good man. I have met him a few times. We are lucky to have him. UCLA should be a solid contender as long as he is with the program.

          • No doubt Savage will not let the Bruins slip too much. Last year’s Bruin team was awesome and perfectly built for Omaha’s vast outfield wasteland. I strongly felt you would win the whole thing based on how your team looked heading in. Congrats to your dad, by the way. There’s some history nobody can ever take away from you! Dedeaux, like Wooden, was a great recruiter. Some frat bros of mine played for Dedeaux. Frankly, they never said much about him. There was so much talent on some of his teams, his superiority wasn’t completely grasped.

          • Coaches like Dedeaux and Wooden and McKay only come along so often. They are not easily replicated. It is highly unlikely that they ever will be.

People like to go on and on about Sam Gilbert or even Marv Goux at SC…regardless of what may be said, those guys were great coaches. Some of the ongoing negativity spewed around these parts gets very old.

          • Goux was so completely gung ho he used to come talk to our house a few days before big rivalry games. Don’t know how he found the time, but he liked to talk about big man on big man and could really fire up a crew. A true soldier who is on Notre Dame’s all-opponent team, I think. McKay was just the opposite. Didn’t even speak with his own team that much. I think there were players who never exchanged a word with the man, unless responding to him on the field when he came down from the tower. Complex dude and was not one to be messed with.

          • A lot of interesting history over the years.

Looking forward to baseball season at Jackie Robinson with my Dad. Try to get to as many games as I can with him. He gave up his seat to the 4th game of the 1963 World Series for my 2 brothers and I to go along with my Mom. They pulled us out of school for the day and we got to see the Dodgers sweep the Yanks with Koufax on the mound. I still owe him for that one.

The ACLU is totally effing with UCLA over the VA. It’s a joke. There is so much other land over there that they can use for the veterans and I would think the money would come in handy. They are way out of bounds IMO. I hope it gets worked out.

Bruins may have a more difficult season. Our best hitter in the CWS is out for the year and possibly one infielder from last year as well. Fullerton looks like the team to beat. It was a nice win for SC beating Fullerton. CSUF is loaded.

          • Your dad is quite a guy, obviously. As far as USC beating Fullerton, I’m not sure how they did it. Would be nice if they don’t completely fall apart when the Pac-12 starts. It’s been a bad few years, so who knows?

          • Even is Woodie was busy cussing out every ref to get his way and turning his head every time one of his players showed up in fancy duds and had cash

          • Right, and I’ll be your old man wished he’d made the RIGHT decision and gone to SC.

          • My father is a proud Bruin and has endowed a scholarship and is in the UCLA baseball Hall of Fame

          • Get anew story. Everything going in cycles. You have to look at the body of work which in the bRuins case is a disaster compared to SC. Woooo, you’ve won a few games.

      • Gee Wally aka ‘The Amazing Fool’ sorry you had to ‘monitor’ the ‘Merrimac’ all day looking out for me….

More of the smear I’m a racist by noting ‘Jackie Robinson’? I’m guessing you’re a brooklyn fan right? By brooklyn I don’t mean that which Branch Rickey represented more the ‘channel’ that the ganef O’Malley did….

Larry Doby, with the Cleveland Indians, would have been the first black player in the bigs – Robinson beat him < 1 month.

Hey how about 'your' business and Obamacare compliance? I'm betting a 'playah' like you is ecstatic you can keep on keeping on 'cuz' de' prez gave you a gettoutta Obamajomamomma Care huh?

Smell the redolent corpse of decaying fecal matter that is rammed down everyone's throats except the left and their flunkies – SEIU (all govt. drones-thieves), UTLA, lawyers, congress, 'junk science' scientists and Hollywood.

I'll bet your 'set' with the 'prez' championing snail darters over the farmers in the San Joaquin Valley and here's the kicker 'bra' de' prez goes and plays golf on a course green with 'watah' in La Quinta…

Obama plus "The Amazing Fool' and the cowardly way of using race to deflect what a complete and total 'blank' up this first class piece of 'dog exhaust' i.e. Prez. Kool Daddio has done to the USA.

Hey 'The Amazing Fool' when's the last time you had any dealings with So. Central LA? You're no different that that clown coward 'woodie' – '….eat the quiche at 'Bobbie Shriver's' planned Congressional run up…

have fun fighting the ACLU – the dog (ACLU) turns and bites the westside whitebread…..

        • You have already shown your colors by calling the President a “househand”. I am sure Michael Sam must send you over the edge.

Face it, Soviet…you can try pleading ignorance of the term…but nobody is buying that you are stupid. You may be angry for some reason that is difficult to discern, but ignorant of the terms you use is not believable.

          • Ah the nuanced reply when one can’t reply to anything else asked – ” ‘The Amazing Fool’ pronounces that ‘I am a racist'” – no how about this ‘you’re the racist’ …

          • Carter was an incompetent sap but he didn’t try to eliminate the Bill of Rights. This guy is way worse.

          • Why don’t you guys come up with some facts? Which part of the Bill of Rights is he trying to eliminate? Which part of the Constitution?

I guess Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld sending of thousands of our young men and women to be killed an maimed while lying to the American people pales in comparison. And how much of our current deficit comes from starting two wars at the same time? How much money went to Halliburton on no bid contracts?

My son was in Afghanistan in Kandahar last year and they were celebrating 9/11 in that country by lobbing rockets in the area of our base. Luckily he is now safe in Qatar. These are wonderful people we are fighting for and sending money to hand over fist. The Bush Administration lost over $600 million in Iraq and has no idea where it went. It was gross incompetence on top of the lies.

But at least he could look into Putin’s eyes and see through to his soul. That worked out well.

          • My son is proud of serving in the Army for almost 19 years now. He made the choice to enlist. His parents are proud of him too.

          • Actually Obama is trying to clean up after the worst President in my lifetime. Carter is the 2nd worst.

FDR was well to the left of Obama. He tried to pack the Supreme Court. Established Government run WPA and CCC. I laugh when people call Obama a Socialist.

And then, how about Nixon? He put in price controls to try and curb inflation and went to China when most people were against it, especially Republicans. Can you imagine one of today’s Republicans trying that? Ted Cruz would try to run him out of the party.

Calling Obama a Socialist or the most liberal President in history lacks historical perspective and is based on emotion and not fact.

          • Obama rules as all tin horn dictators do – by fiat. His contempt for the constitution makes FDR look like a piker. He has had more scandals then any president in memory and a rigged DOJ that does his bidding. Holder was the attorney that got Clinton to pardon Mark Rich.

Bush was the worst in your lifetime? Really? Worse than Carter or the all time homerun hitter who gave us AFDC – LBJ? You’re what you are – an elitist who hasn’t a single experience of the wreckage of what the activist left has wreaked upon this nation.

Now reply by once again equating Sam Gilbert with Marv Goux you troll –

          • You left wingers are all the same. Obummer is an a hole. Right, we’re thousands of times better off without Bush….security, war, etc. All security is dog crap and Obummer has done nothing he said he’d do. You’re so full of it. In fact, Nixion was ten times better than Obummer. Go drink some MORE Kool Aid.

        • Larry Dolby!?! that’s like saying if Buzz Aldrin jumped over past Neal Armstrong, he would be first man on the moon…Armstrong only beat Aldrin by less than few seconds…Give credit where credit is due. Jackie Robinson who was a former Bruin broke the color barrier.

    • sure, anything to make yourself feel better about being dominated in all three major sports…80 yard field. ..sawtelle, blah blah, blah, blah…scoreboard results is all it matters. 🙂
