USC Quick Afternoon Hits

USC safety Dion Bailey met with the Carolina Panthers last night. Former USC basketball assistant Joe Callero picked up a big win as Cal Poly SLO (11-19) defeated UC Santa Barbara (21-9) at the Big West Tournament, 69-38.

Golfers Annie Park and Kyung Kim were named to the Curtis Cup team, which pits the U.S. against Great Britain and Ireland. And finally, USC center Omar Oraby was nominated for the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.award, which was won by Stanford forward Dwight Powell.

  1. Collero, now that is a voice out of the past. A reasonably good asst. coach who was brought aboard so we could get the hotshot ‘Q’. After 456 uneventful minutes of PT, Wilder went the way of all flesh at the end of his 1st season.
The Egyption was nominated for the Scholar-Athlete of the year? I hear tell that he was a good scholar.

    • Was thinking about making a “Sheik of Oraby” joke in response, but maybe a “Sheik of Araby” reference is too dated for even the most senior among us.

      • Just how senior are we talking? Many renditions of that song. Maybe some as much as 100 years old.

        • Well, I’d imagine that that song was probably already considered an “old standard” by WWII. Wikipedia says it’s from the early 1920’s. I always liked the line about “Into your tent I creep” — in a love song!

        • Was he the one in Zero Dark Thirty who helped us find Bin Laden in exchange for a fancy sports car?
