What $4,000 Per Seat At Coliseum Won’t Pay For In A Renovation

COLISEUMRemember this ambitious redesign of the Coliseum? None of USC’s designs, including the one in the Morning Buzz, show any dramatic changes to the stadium quite like this.

  1. Scott, instead of tossing grenades, why don’t you do some real investigative reporting and delve into USC’s PSLs at the Galen Center AND how much BS they are going to throw regarding the Coliseum?

  2. No matter how much lipstick you apply it’s still a pig.

Visionaries at UCLA saw this like 50 years ago while SCCC’s vision is more like Mr Magoo.

    • So true. When some Bruins fans were clamoring back in the day for an on-campus stadium, legendary vice-chancellor Ed “Tip” Topkapi replied, “Do you know how much it will cost to maintain that thing? Do you suckers want to have to buy PSLs?” And to this day, we have avoided the curse of having a football stadium near campus.

      • Like I said, visionary. While everyone in pro and college is getting cities to pay for their stadiums and getting out of stadium ownership, the SCCC Magoos are getting into ownership.

And now they’re finding out it’s a money pit.

        • Typical public school thought. Get “cities” aka taxpayers to pay for the stadium!

          • The NFL is no public school! I can tell from the blue and gold on that parrot that he has the good sense to root for UCLA.

      • What purpose does it serve for two bRUINs commenting on a USC blog and butt slapping each other about potential renovations to the stadium USC Football plays in? Don’t you bRUINs have lives? Go comment on your own blog.

  3. Truly it and the Rose Bowl are the last iconic stadiums left in America – The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum venue has hosted: World Series, Super Bowls, NFL Home Stadium (Rams/Raiders), AFL Stadium (Chargers) , USFL Stadium (Express), Papal Mass, Presidential nominee’s acceptance speech, X and XXIII Olympiads, Mary’s Hour, rock concerts.
USC football from its opening and also UCLA (until 1982) football. George Patton spoke there as well as Billy Graham.

Best to leave it intact save for better egress to the seats from the outside (ground level tunnels) – they destroyed the beauty of Soldier Field – this beautiful stadium a Memorial to the US Soldiers who fought for the USA in World War I – is still intact and majestic in its stature and the legacy it has.

  4. That would be one amazing renovation project, and he $4,000 might be worth it.

    • It looks good in the concept, but it’s far from reality. Unlike the Rose Bowl and most stadiums, the Coliseum actually runs East-West where the September sun sets in the left corner of the existing west jumbotron. That puts the sun almost directly in the faces of the fans on the right sections of the model. The shade on top would be almost useless except before 1pm.

In the Rose Bowl, the alumni sections and student section are the ones who get the direct sun until it dips below the press box. If there were a giant shade above sections 2-7, it wouldn’t help.

  5. The new Coliseum can be the host of the Disney Channel Teenager Choice Awards!

  6. I’m just so mind blown away how there are so many bRUINS commenting on here! Don’t they follow YOUR OWN team? Why troll USC blogs? I still can’t comprehend the mindset which brings the bRUIN trolls here.

    • I’m just so mind blown away, that you even give a crap!! don’t you have more things in your life to focus on?? is your life that pathetic??
