A Covered Coliseum

OLYMPICS.2USC is involved with the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid and the group behind it has provided this rendering of a Coliseum with a roof, which is more ambitious than anything that has been announced to date. It also includes a 20,000-seat soccer stadium at the current Sports Arena site that sources tell me USC has not yet made a decision on whether to build.

If this is the Coliseum of the future, then you definitely will major personal-seat license charges.

  1. Remarkable if LA gets the 2024 Olympiad – three (tied with London) and all at the same venue – the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum 10th, 26th and potentially 33rd Modern Summer Olympiads.

  2. Coliseum with a roof?

Is that to protect our hearty Angelenos from that 11 inches of rain per year?

  3. It also has three tiered levels of seating, with luxury boxes in the middle tier sections.

  4. Soccer stadium? Futbol can be played on the pitch of the gray lady…if not in Carson. And a roof? We need a roof like we need snow removing equiipment. What is needed is PARKING!

    • USC actually needs a second source of revenue to pay the bills for operating and maintaining the Coliseum and Sports Arena – about $500,000 a month. Gate and parking revenue from the games played by MLS team (moving from Carson) makes the most sense.

    • There is a need for parking relief however I used to attend NYY games – if you’ve ever had to attempt to exit an elevated multi-story structure or even worse a sub-surface structure it is anything but a solution.

  5. Why would “you definitely will major” PSL’s if the USOOC remodels the Coliseum? The USOOC wouldn’t bill back the SC alumni. The logic behind that is nearly as strong as the grammar.

  6. They won’t put a shade over the place. The hat sales would plummet and the smell from vendors would be awful
