USC Basketball Legend Cheryl Miller Hired At Langston University

This is almost stunning when you look at who former USC athletic director Mike Garrett hired as his basketball coaches at Langston University. Cheryl Miller, a USC basketball legend and former coach, accepted the women’s basketball job. Quite a coup for Garrett.

On the other hand, Garrett hired former USC basketball manager Stan Holt as the men’s coach. Holt’s never coached basketball and was working in real estate before Garrett hired him. Garrett could have created a bigger splash if he hired Miller as the men’s coach.

Morning Buzz: Darreus Rogers Is No. 1

DARREUS.ROGERSIt is jersey-switching season and sophomore WR Darreus Rogers is supposed to wear No. 1 next season instead of No. 84. It’s a momentous occassion because Lane Kiffin never let anyone wear No. 1 because he recruited Mike Williams and that was Williams’ number. Thankfully that nonsense is over.

Offensive lineman Toa Lobendahn, who was given No. 55 for inexplicable reasons by Steve Sarkisian, will switch to No. 54, the number he said he wanted originally.

How Should USC Use The Land?

OLYMPICS.2A roof on the Coliseum is probably not a necessity in Southern California, though if I had to sit in the hot sun at a (getting rarer) day game, I might like the roof. However, I’m curious what fans think USC should do where that soccer stadium sits in the picture?

Should USC undertake such a stadium? It might attract an MLS team if that is considered a plus. Should it build a parking structure for more football parking? You can never have enough parking on Game Day. Or should it just leave the Sports Arena as it is and rent it out for TV commercials and concerts, which is something it does with some success right now and would be the cheapest option.
