USC first baseman Jake Hernandez was named Pac-12 player of the week after the Trojans’ three-game sweep of UCLA. Hernandez went 7 for 13 with four RBI against UCLA. USC’s nine-game winning streak is the baseball program’s longest since 2001.

An Un-Timely Donation
I have not commented on Donald Sterling this weekend, figuring the two years I covered the Clippers (and dealt with him) was enough of a price to pay. But this ad from today’s L.A. Times shows how the timing of donations can backfire. Think that lab will still bear DTS’s name? Credit the UCLA Faculty Association for questioning this donation first.
Kaitlyn Christian Wins Third Pac-12 Title
The USC women’s doubles’ team of Kaitlyn Christian and Giuliana Olmos defeated No. 1 seeded Kristie Ahn and Carol Zhao of Stanford, 6-3, 6-3 at the Pacific-12 tennis championships.
Christian won her third straight doubles title and became only the second woman to accomplish that feat.
USC Is Everywhere
If you watched Chelsea beat Liverpool, 2-0, today, you probably were surprised to see a guy wearing a USC hat when the camera flashed to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho near the end of the game. It reminded of a time a few years ago when I went to London to see Charlton play Birmingham City in a soccer game and the first guy I saw when I arrived at the stadium wore a USC sweatshirt. A Covered Coliseum
USC is involved with the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid and the group behind it has provided this rendering of a Coliseum with a roof, which is more ambitious than anything that has been announced to date. It also includes a 20,000-seat soccer stadium at the current Sports Arena site that sources tell me USC has not yet made a decision on whether to build.
If this is the Coliseum of the future, then you definitely will major personal-seat license charges.
A Couple Notes On USC Baseball
USC, with its nine-game winning streak and 24-17, swept UCLA for the first time since 2005. The Trojans are also on course to post a winning record for the first time since 2005. And make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005.
Before the season, USC coach Dan Hubbs said the key to the team was quality pitching. Staff ace Wyatt Strahan has thrown 20 straight scoreless innings while No. 2 Brent Wheatley is 4-1 with a 2.82 ERA.
USC Morning Buzz: Marqise Lee To Jets?
When USC held its Pro Day, the New York Jets sent general manager John Idzik and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg to watch Marqise Lee. And this mock draft says the Jets duo wants to take Lee with the 18th pick in the draft. And the Jets currently have No. 9 available!
USC Baseball Makes Big Comeback
USC trailed UCLA, 4-0, in the ninth inning today and then scored 7 runs in the ninth to defeat the Bruins, 7-4 and sweep the three-game series. USC has now won nine straight games and looks like an NCAA Tournament worthy team. Designated hitter Blake Lacey was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI to lead the Trojans.
