Trojans On The Road

USC coaches are in South Carolina today to visit offensive guard Zack Bailey, one of the top players in the nation. It once again shows how much USC feels offensive line is a weakness as it continues to go after linemen for the 2015 recruiting class.

As I noted last week, the depth is shocking at some offensive line positions and the Trojans almost cannot sign enough linemen.

Weakness?…..so tell us, Scottie….what’s wrong with stockpiling O-Linemen?…. it’s about creating depth, especially now that we are back to our full allotment of scholarships……the games are obviously won and lost in the trenches……Stanford and UCLA have been loading up on the Big Uglies for the 5 years and now it’s paying them dividends……

Stanford was 11-3, USC 10-4 in 2013. Without Kiffin, USC might have been 12-2. USC beat Stanford but lost to UCLA, Notre Dame and Az. State. Stanford beat UCLA, Notre Dame and Az. State, but lost to Utah 27-21 while USC beat Utah 19-3. It is not clear that choosing Stanford even in a down year in recruiting for USC was the clear best choice. And Stanford lost the Rose Bowl to Michigan State whose only loss was to Notre Dame. Linemen are typically projects that have to be bulked up, their core strengthened, and learn technique. Michigan State wins by stockpiling redshirts and by the time they are 5th year seniors they are tough. Got to give linemen like Zach Banner credit – it usually takes a year to come back from major surgery. He’s out there learning. It takes about six games to get players experience enough to improve. USC is going to have to play their freshmen linemen and their redshirts.

I can’t wait to see how the freshmen and RS bondo O-Line works out for Sark’s new offense. WL makes valid points.

Staff putting in work.. Really reaching out to get kids to USC.. I admire the hard work and the effort.. Lets hope for results come signing day.. FIGHT ON!

Well said – it’s a page out of Pete’s playbook – lock down the state (well try to) and go national.

  • Internal Monologue

I wonder if the NCAA sanctions were intended to deplete USC’s depth so that they would be less competitive?

    • UCLA Bleauz

Well, considering that the University of Miami AD, Paul Dee, and Missy Conboy, who played basketball at Notre Dame and worked in Notre Dame’s athletics administration for more than 25 years, were sitting on the COI (Committee on Infractions) at the time, it’s safe to say that the deck was not stacked in USC’s favor……but that’s yesterdays news….my rearview mirror is broken…..but if you want to read some interesting stuff on this, check out http://wwwdotncaainjusticedotcom/

Smells like another two or three more excuses headed for SUCC FB’s bloated excuse lexicon.

Ask him if he’s ever slept with a woman. He loves that question.

          • SUCC de trop

That’s why I refer you as Cheap Lies. You in fact, love to ask “that question.”

        • TrojanFamily

USC has been sanctioned and has had fewer scholarships.

          USC lacks depth

Only a troll would call that an excuse rather than an explanation

          “Sorry I can’t afford a PSL. I don’t make enough money”

Stop making excuses! We all know facts are nothing more than excuses!

          • SUCC de trop

TF, excuse by any other name (explanation) still stinks.

    • Helen

      He doesn’t cover USC either.

    • B.Miller

HYSTERICAL! but he will tell us all day where Lame Kiffin is…

  • john wolcott

Play the hand you are dealt, which the Trojans have done

SC did o.k.the last 4-years, will probably be just o.k. in 2014, and then watch out!

    • SUCC de trop

      For what?

  • Sarknado

It may be shocking to Wolf, but the reason for the lack of O-line depth is pretty obvious to those who follow SC football. Carroll woefully under recruited O-linemen during his last few years. That along with sanctions and Kiffin’s missing out on a few big recruits lead to the depleted roster.

    • Tom Oday

WTF? “Carroll woefully under recruited O-linemen during his last few years”. Wasn’t his last season 2009?

      • marvgoux1

        Shhh- he’s on a roll!

        • Russ Taylor

Ignorance is both bliss and UCLA fan. Fight On!

  • rusoviet

Great if Sark succeeds esp. with Clowney going in the top 3 picks tomorrow – Spurrier can’t keep a kid in the Palmetto State?

  • Wayne Lusvardi

Remember when Marcus Martin was Three Star “fat kid out of South Central” as coach Harvey Hyde called him once in order to challenge him? Now Martin going high in the NFL draft. And Jordan Simmons was a Five Star and Aundrey Walker a Four Star coming out of high school? As the saying goes: you don’t know what you got until you pick a piece of candy out of the box and try it.
