Marqise Lee Drops To Second Round

An amazing feat 12 months ago. Marqise Lee, thought to be bulletproof from the Lane Kiffin effect, is not taken by any teams in the first round of tonight’s NFL draft. Even Pete Carroll passed on Lee.

  1. 1. WTF is the Kiffin Effect?
    2. The Seahawks did not select in the first round so Pete Carroll didn’t pass on Lee.
    3. How you stay employed is a mystery to me.

    • I wonder if your boogie up the stairs of your parent’s basement on a Thursday night is more exciting?

      • Actually my butler carries me up the stairs. I’m so filthy rich I don’t bother to walk. I have people to peel the grapes I eat.

  2. I wonder if Scott Wolf dropping down to the Daily News was more of an amazing feat given that he just graduated from USC with a degree in Journalism?

  3. So…what pimping out-fit does Marqise wear tommorrow? I bet he comes out wearing something “LIME GREEN” with perhaps a boa with a fuzzy Leopard pattern wide brimmed “lid”. At least your ALL WORLD Center got drafted in the 1st round….didn’t he?
    fit Un knuckleheads!

    • Thai you are VIOLATING the trOXans tonight, hermano!!

Nubsie is hurting BAD, Helen is questioning her life choices, and Cheap Lies is hiding in a corner sobbing…..total devastation.

      And then, depression set in…

      • Klan rally tonight! Who knew the “Cadre” all wore white sheets?

        • Guess you’ll just be known as the “Klandre” from now on. You can be Sterling Bucket.

        • ??? You’re all confused, clear your head!!

          The Dummies are falling apart!!

Um, it was your brother Nubsie who was defending Sterling, Dummy!!

          Out of CONTEXT!!

          • The Klandre’s is using racist imagery to attack Maquise Lee tonight. The Klandre is like a poorer Donald Sterling. Bucket is wearing his white hood tonight. He should change his name to Grand Wizard Charlie Hood.

          • sanctimonious douchbaggery is something you shouldn’t be proud of…but on you….it sort of works.
            fit Un!

          • Ok I’ll go with it…we can keep Thai though, right???

What about the Count? He’s a Transylvanian immigrant with no Green Card…

Aww Shoot, Yoda is another illegal alien…

            And I’m transgender….

This is tearing the Cafre apart!!! We can’t survive as a racist organization!!

  4. Blame Pat Haden. He turned the program into a circus last year. All any team had to do was look at Robert Woods’ rookie year and take Lee 10 picks earlier. This is just terrible.

    • Point of fact BH, of all the top10 wide receivers in this year draft, M. Lee dropped the most passes in 2013 season. Ask a savvy SUCCster how many TD’s Lee dropped in 2013 – the o/u is 7. Lastly BH, ask youself how many FB games at 25 degree weather or lower has Lee participated in. Bonus question; what so you think the Dolphins W/L record against any NFL team in really windy, cold weather.

      • We don’t need to ask anybody. We have you, an encyclopedia of USC information.

    • No. It is the reality of the NFL. If you are small, you need to have sub 4.4 speed, i.e. Brandin Cooks.

Lee is 5’11 feet, 192 lbs. Average hand size and arm length. Ran a 4.5 40 @ the combine. Coming off a very bad injury. Sammy Watkins is 6’1” and 200+ lbs. Ran a 4.43. Mike Evans is 6’5″ and 230+ lbs. Odell Beckham is 5’11’ but 200+ lbs and has huge hands. The kid from FSU who Gruden doesn’t like was 6’5″.

NFL offenses like to go over the top. Especially in cold weather climes. (Alshon Jeffery) Everyone wants bigger receivers who can break the initial tackle. (Demaryius Thomas) Or super quick, versatile receivers who you can move outside, in the slot or out of the backfield. (Percy Harvin before his injury).

If everyone ran Mike Martz offenses, Lee would be a first round pick. (Torry Holt.)

It is not the Pat Haden circus or being ruined by Lane Kiffin. It is the reality of the NFL and the new rookie scale. Every draftee is reduced to slotted value, and route runners who excel in the open field are not as valuable as they once were. Hence the run on DBs at the bottom of the first round.

      • I understand your point. However, Marqise is like Robert Woods with an afterburner. Woods had a very respectable rookie campaign playing in cold weather.

It will be interesting to see what happens with other USC players in the draft. I don’t see them going where they’re expected. Program disarray comes into play. Even for the ones who leave early, there’s an institutional responsibility to help them prepare and market themselves. Nobody had a personal interest in doing that. Perhaps Clay Helton, but we heard nothing from him.

7 catches, 118 yards, 2 TDs. Completely out-shined the unanimous #1 remaining prospect in a head-to-head game. Just weird.

        • Percentage of Pro Bowl berths among first- or second-round picks since 1990. (Pro Football reference)

          OL

          33 percent (65 of 199)

          RB

          32 percent (44 of 139)

Note: Glyn Milburn made his two Pro Bowls as a returner.

          QB

          30 percent (25 of 83)

          TE

          26 percent (17 of 66)

          WR

          20 percent (36 of 184)

Note that RBs are no longer drafted in the first round.

USC players will go where they are expected. No one except for Lee and Martin are projected to go higher than the 5th round.

  5. First or second round, Lee will have more guaranteed money coming his way than a certain blogger will see in his entire life..

    • I wonder if there is any physical reason to explain the effect of your stupidity?
