USC Sunday Buzz: Max Wittek’s Options

WITTEK

Since USC QB Max Wittek will not graduate this summer, there’s been a lot of talk that Wittek is not graduating “on time.” In his defense, Wittek is now expected to graduate in 3.5 years. That’s still pretty good if it happens.

What are his options? Return to the USC football team? Go to a lower-division schoool like Montana or Central Connecticut State? Take a season off, get his degree and then go to Hawaii?

  1. Maybe Scottie should check with the Hawaii beat reporter to see what Max Wittek’s options are.

  2. Hawaii is a very beautiful place to visit. It reminds me of my trips to French Polynesia. I miss it.

  3. Transfer to UCLA; Brett won’t be there next year. Perfect timing.

  4. He should rejoin the team as a walk-on, get his degree from USC while working out with the team and staying in shape. Then transfer in the Spring to UH.

He only has a slim chance of making it in the NFL, so having a degree from SC will in the long run do more for him than one from a DII school.

  5. It will be tough for him to find an FBS program that only needs a QB for 1 year. They’d probably prefer to invest that time in younger QBs or at least a player with 2 years. High risk for both sides.

I read that a former Oregon QB in a similar situation – Bryan Bennett – transferred to an FCS program in Louisiana. They were maybe 5-6 the previous year. Bennett transferred, was able to play right away, and lit them on fire, taking them into the national playoffs. If Wittek simply wants to play and compete, or if he wants a shot at the NFL or Arena Football, that’s the way to go. I read both Sacramento State and UC Davis as options.
