USC Hurdler Aleec Harris Sets Pac-12 Record At West Regionals

aleecUSC senior Aleec Harris set a Pac-12 and West Regionals record today in the 110-meter hurdles at Fayetteville, Ark. Harris’ time of 13.18 broke the long-standing conference record of premier UCLA hurlder Greg Foster (13.22 in 1978). Harris now has the top time in the U.S. and No. 2 time in the world for this year.

In the 200 meters, Aaron Brown ran the fifth-fastest time in the world this year (20.16). Tynia Gaither set a PR in the 200 meters (22.88).

On the downside, this will be the first time since 1992 that a Trojan man or woman will not score at the NCAA Championshis in the hammer throw. Here is who qualified for the NCAA championships according to USC:

Aaron Brown (100m, 200m), Alexandra Collatz (discus), Melia Cox (triple jump, 100m HH), Jessica Davis (100m), Tynia Gaither(100m, 200m), Aleec Harris (110m HH), Amalie Iuel (400m IH), Vanessa Jones (400m), BeeJay Lee (100m), Oluwakemi Olonade (triple jump), the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays and the women’s 4x400m relay. Also, Viktor Fajoyomi qualified in the decathlon which goes off the descending order list.

  1. Tell me why the “West” regionals are being held in Arkansas? That seems to be a stretch..

    • It is west of the Mississippi. .. U of M’s fight song sing “Champions of the West” and they are east of the Mississippi. Go figure?

    • That’s your East Coast bias at work. The NCAA stills think there is nothing West of St Louis, or at least where HQ used to be in Kansas before they moved to Indianapolis. The Pac 12 doesn’t realize how valuable SC is to keeping the West in the eye of the national spotlight. Without us the Pac 11 would be considered another Mountain West conference unfit for national title consideration.

      • I would think Oregon is just slightly more important than SUCC, since Oregon hosts the NCAA track and field championship annually. Oregon has a T & F Championships contract with the NCAA, like Omaha, and OK City for Baseball and softball.

        • According to you, USC should just drop out if the PAC-12 and into the WAC or Mtn West.

On 2nd thought, they should just shut down the school in your opinion, right?

          • Save the chump hysterics Cheap Lies, there will be plenty of time for that, during the 2014 SUCC 7 – 5, 2014 FB season. I will try to make it clearer for you Cheap Lies, SUCC T & F is not as important to the PAC-12 as Goux 1 suggests. At no time did I suggest SUCC drop out of the PAC-12. SUCC is not that insane.
