Baby Quarterback Officially Decommits

SILLS

The great charade of David Sills committing as a 7th grader to USC came to a merciful end today when Sills announced he decommitted. Seems like it came with a nudge from USC.

This was basically a publicity stunt that Lane Kiffin participated in four years ago and mercifully came to an end. USC coaches graded Sills third last summer at the Rising Stars camp behind Ricky Town and Josh Rosen.

But Kiffin was never going to backtrack. And this explains the offer to San Clemente’s Sam Darnold today. But it does not explain why Travis Waller was not offered. Especially with all the lip service about how Steve Sarkisian’s offense requires a running quarterback.

    • We can only hope for sweep scooping from you, Golly-Nerd, when you and Jackie the Trust Fund Baby Brony attend the San Diego Comic Con Convention “When Nerds Attack” preview night on July 23rd!

  1. Scotty did it ever occur to you that both Darnold and Waller where evaluated by the coaches and they offered Darnold because he was a better prospect? Also Darnold is a very good running QB. Also Sills announce he decommtted on Friday but who needs facts.

  2. Maybe the best thing about this development is that we may never hear the moronic phrase” Baby QB”. Did you refer to Ryan Boatwright as the “Baby PG?”
And just maybe Wolfie, the SC coaches have studied the prospects out there, and actually believe Darnold is a better fit for their program. I guess it’s time you turn on Sark now, since you eventually do that to every SC coach. Waiting for the day the rag you work for gives us SC fans a real beat writer.

  3. Yes- you are correct- Wolfie will continue to feed us silly updates on the exploits of Killin and Sills, whether we want it or not.

  4. Old, old news, again. Crazy thinking that USC would switch to a QB they like more. This is truly a sea change in recruiting tactics. Imagine if future forced decommits actually become commonplace.

  5. A merciful end may not be as good as a triumphant end, but it’s better than a tragic end.

  6. OPEN MESSAGE TO TROLLS

If you guys/gals/androids want USC fans to respect your opinions, don’t troll the board. Don’t be idiots. How can USC fans take ANY of you SERIOUSLY?

  7. We can only hope this puts an end to Scotties’ childish name calling and obsession with this now ex-recruit.

Lost in all the shuffle is the fact that Sills turned out to be a pretty highly regarded QB – maybe not at the Rosen/Town level but within the top 20 in the nation. Rather than call it a “charade” and “publicity stunt” maybe Scottie should call it like it is… that Kiffin recognized Sills’ talent as a 7th grader where nobody else did.

  8. Why did someone delete my thread pointing out that Darnold was a very good QB. That the comments that someone may not have researched his background in asking why we didnt go after a running QB like Waller?

  9. The question on everyone’s mind: “Was it merciful?”
Fortunately, we have Scott Wolf to answer to burning questions.

  10. Sounds like this story…. Or the whole series of blogs on Sills was just more infatuation with Kiffin?

  11. Can you blame him? He stopped drinking the pUSC cool aid. Glad to see the guy wake up and not play for a sorry 7 win sark. See Nobs we can post on your sorry site too.
