Germany survives in extra time with a 2-1 victory over Algeria but were not impressive and now advance to face France in the quarterfinals. Goal keeper Manuel Neuer (above) was the best part of the match for the Germans.

Devon Kennard Earns Pac-12 Honor
USC defenive end Devon Kennard and volleyball libero Natalie Hagglund were named winners of the Pac-12’s Tom Hansen medal, which is a combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership. Full list of winners after the jump:

For a certain generation of USC fans, there was not a finer player than halfback Jon Arnett. An All-American, Arnett was a two-time winner of the Voit Award, which went to the best player on the Pacific Coast. He was the No. 2 pick in the 1957 NFL draft and selected by the Los Angeles Rams, where he was a five-time Pro Bowl. He also is in the College Football Hall of Fame.
USC At USA Track And Field Finals
Former USC runner Duane Solomon won the 800 meters (1:44.30) today at the U.S. Track and Field championships in Sacramento. Former USC hurdler and current assistant coach Ryan Wilson finished second in the 110-meter high hurdles (13.16) while current USC hurdler Aleec Harris was fourth (13.26).
