USC Morning Buzz

MARVIN.POWELLI’m focusing mostly on players from the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s right now because they tend to get the least publicity but I’m going to mention offensive tackle Marvin Powell (1974-76). He was a two-time All-American and member of a national championship team. He also played in five Pro Bowls for the New York Jets . So why is he underappreciated?

Because Powell is the only USC football player who is in the College Football Hall of Fame but not in the USC Hall of Fame.

i dont like the new chemically castrated nubsie with all this code talk, why don’t you just say what you mean like you used to??

is Gina-D that scary to you?? she’s a fair lady, don’t be so chicken!

      • She’s REAL fair. Let’s a guy use Knee Grows in his post. Let’s other guys like you continue personal affronts. I personally think she’s YOU.

  2. Must be some kind of political reason, because it cannot be based on performance merit

  3. It’s funny that Scott mentions Marvin Powell as an under appreciated player. His son, Marvin Powell III, was a FB when I was a student at USC. After he left for the NFL (Saints, I think), I overheard a couple players remark how much they missed his blocking and how much the team took him for granted. I guess it runs in the family.

    • 2 time All American’s and 5 time Pro Bowler players don’t miss blocking assignments you moron

  4. Wolfie….instead of continuing to stroll down memory lane, how about reporting some CURRENT recruiting news???…

“Three-star offensive lineman Clayton Johnston announced he will be making his decision at noon PST on Wednesday.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors USC with 100-percent of current predictions.

Johnston was offered by the Trojans on June 21. Since that offer, most expected a commitment to follow the three-star offensive lineman.

Should Johnston commit to USC, it would give the Trojans its third offensive line commit in 2015.

Also on Wednesday, Campolindo (Calif.) tight end Tyler Petiteis planning to announce his commitment.”

Who wants to bet that we will get 10+ “Baby QB” updates on Scott Wolf’s blog starting in 2015?

    9:01 AM – 1 Jul 2014
