USC Morning Buzz: Spotlight On Trojan And NFL Great Jon Arnett

Jon Arnett is in College Football Hall of Fame and was an All-American in 1955. He also was a five-time Pro Bowler with the Los Angeles Rams from 1958-62. I’m happy to show Arnett’s actual game-worn USC jersey that matches the one he is wearing above survived and is in excellent condition.

  1. I believe he was also in the Heisman voting, and was 2nd or 3rd…He and C.R.ROBERTS were a great tandem.

  2. Enough already with the history and World Cup – let’s get back to current USC athletics.

  3. wolfman, why are you not mentioning the shocking scandal that cost Arnett half a season and the Heisman Trophy??

wolfman, you usually report ALL the news, no matter how UGLY or distasteful…wolfman, what POWERFUL FORCES are keeping you so silent on this subject???

will the CADRE have to step in and wrap this UP???

    • You are Scott or the turd in his pocket. Don’t take things out of context you wuss. Tell the whole story about the “shocking scandal”.

    • Scott Wolf is learning that negativity is not the way. I strongly urge you follow the same path. The days of negativity of which you crave are nearing an end.

      • Negaitivity or the truth? The truth is half of the Pac went on probation for paying the players, effectively ending the Golden Age of F UCLA Football. It has never recovered.

        • Reporting the truth does not require sarcasm and implication. That is what I speak of. Sarcasm with the intent of creating chaos is always negative.

    • You brought this up once before and then changed your mind. Now you have brought the cheating ways of UCLA to light.
You should have left it alone again.

      • I am simply too classy to bring up the fact Arnett was going all Reggie Bush and likewise, it cost him a Heisman!!

As with individuals, when Universities fail to LEARN from history, they are CONDEMNED to receive future crotch kicks!!

        • Okay, fair enough but please educate us on the plight of UCLA in that era.
It would seem that they were poised for an impressive run. They had recently earned a share of a National Championship, beaten USC soundly and clearly had a coach with a bright future.
Were the Bruins involved in any scandals and what were the DETAILS involved that prevented Red Sanders from continuing his success with UCLA?

  4. You keep forgetting to say that he is also from my high school, Manual Arts. 🙂

    • UCLA lost their first football game in 1919 to Manual Arts HS 74-0. Arnett was one of the great multi-sport athletes playing football and competing in track (1954-56). He placed second in the 1954 NCAA long jump (24-8) for the champion Trojans.

      • Good stuff Tom. I have have mentioned that to folks in the past. They dont believe me. Back at that time UCLA was an infant college football program.

Manual Arts dominated high school football with the likes of Jon Arnett during the late 30s thru early 60s under gentleman Jim Blewett.

  5. “Google” Pacific Coast Conference Scandal-Wikipedia to see the WHOLE story of the mid-fifties scandal.
