Ricky Town Update

Who really knows how valid rankings are at the Elite 11? But Ricky Town was not in the first 11 in the first set of rankings and then threw two interceptions in the early session today during 7-on-7. Does any of this matter? Not really. But it does show perhaps the recruiting services were a little ahead of themselves when they ranked him No. 1 in the nation.

  1. Well, DUH!…. Thanks for the newsflash, Scottie…..of course, the “rankings” from recruiting services are mainly used for entertainment value…..the cream usually rises to the top when these players go against elite players…and the difference between being #1 versus #10 can change in the blink of a 7-on-7 drill….

  2. Stating these ranking systems don’t mean anything is the smartest thing you’ve said in a long time Scottie. The sole purpose of these rankings is to make us believe this is the truth and we should pay these hucksters money for their dribble. Have you ever taken a close look at these guys that put out rankings? They are nothing but a bunch of nincompoops.

    • Matt Hinton debunked that theory with a statistical analysis over multiple seasons.

In addition, a recent article examined the 2010 recruiting class and found that a 5-star was something like 60% likely to get drafted by the NFL, a 4-star 6%, and a 3-star 3%.

There is plenty of error in scouting high school players, by Rivals/Scout/etc., and by CFB coaches. (And the NFL errs a lot as well.) But what statistics have been compiled simply don’t support your assertions.

USC coaches really liked Town in their camp last summer. I think that probably has some significance

      And we’ll see.

      • Well done BF, very informative, especially, the part that proves Hilary/Helen might actually be the nincompoop.

      • “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.” – Popularized by Mark Twain….. I’m not suggesting that Mr. Hinton is wrong, but I would be interested in seeing the data and how it all breaks down…It would be fun reading….

    • “Bulls-eye, wolfman!!”

Is that what you cried out when he nailed you in left eye. It must suck to wear an eye patch

  3. What’s it like waking up and going to bed everyday being unhappy?

  4. from USA TODAY Elite 11 profiles:

Rosen looks built in a mad-scientist laboratory, if not one of NASA’s
next-generation research facilities. He’s the perfect quarterback,
basically: Rosen is tall, long-armed, strong and as college-ready as any
Elite 11 invitee. “Josh Rosen’s probably the most polished,” Whitfield
    said.

“Josh Rosen is supremely talented. He makes incredibly
difficult things look easy,” Dilfer said. “He’s just a highly
intellectual kid that understands the game a certain way and now is
trying to figure out the way we’re trying to teach it. But he’s thrived.
It’s real work, and he’s made it look easy.”

uh-oh, i’m starting to feel ALIVE!!!!!!!

    • here what coach Trent Dilfer had to say about Ricky Town: “Town is a gamer. This wasn’t evident during Sunday’s drills, when he “was not overly impressive,” Dilfer said

      Uh-Oh! Spaghetti-O!!!

      big surprise! wolfman RIGHT AGAIN!!!!!

      • Weird that you told us rankings don’t matter and now you say they do, BM. That IBS has affected your brain.

    • Rosen’s QB ranking problem is Dilfer’s personality conflict with Rosen. In Difer’s mind, Difer is the ultimate QB coach/ arbiter. Rosen couldn’t care less what Difer thinks. Most people who saw Rosen’s 7/9 afternoon performance were very impressed. Difer, on the other hand, didn’t think Rosen was good unless Rosen chucked a TD to his 15th read/option.

  5. He was too busy with a special tutoring session from Matt “Mr Interception” Barkley!

  6. There was a problem for Rosen though, he didn’t salute Difer correctly or enough for Difer’s suck up points quota.
