Here’s a 1959 photo of USC assistant coach John McKay coaching his quarterbacks: Bob Schmidt, Ben Charles, Al Prukop and Willie Wood. This was McKay’s only season as an assistant. He was named USC coach the following season. Note that he is not wearing Nikes.
Maybe he doesn’t have Nikes on because the company didn’t exist until 1964. Has anybody asked the artist why he chose those shoes for the statue?

The ’59 team was a great team after ’57 went 1-9 and ’58 went 5-5 ,or something like that;Wille wood was the q/b,they had a great game vs Ohio St,upsetting them,and their all-american fullback Bob White, in more ways than one,I was there and I think it was a night game;if I remember correctly Woody shoved a reporters camera into his face;he was a great coach regardless;trojans were 2nd in polls behind Syracuse,until the 2 loses at end of season;I still remember the names of those players;it was a great year after the 2 previous seasons.Ron Mix was the all-american,at off tackle…all 220 lbs.THANKS…SORRY NO ONE ELSE SEEMS TO LIKE THESE POSTS.
