USC Morning Buzz: Ralph Vaughn In Player Spotlight

rLIFE cover 01-15-1940 w. Univ. of Southern Califor

Making the cover of Life magazine was about as good as it got between the 1930’s-50’s, especially since it was not a sports magazine. And here is USC basketball player Ralph Vaiughn, who was the publication’s national player of the year in 1940.

Vaughn led the Trojans to their first NCAA Tournament appearance and national semifinals his senior season (1939-40). He also scored 36 points against UCLA, a conference record for 21 years. He was also an All-American that season.
