Picture Of The Day

Here’s a color photo of the 1963 Rose Bowl that shows Ron Butcher catching a 13-yard TD pass on a tackle-eligible play to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead over Wisconsin.

What?… no drooling over the number being on the helmet, this time?

If only we could go back to the sleeves below the elbows and the older, smaller face masks and bigger, thicker thigh pads. Put those big, glorious numbers on the helmets and start wearing Ridell’s again, with heavy leather soles. Make the helmets look as dull as possible, just like in ’63. Short white socks for all. There’s never any real reason to ever change anything about a uniform. It should take a combined student body/teacher/all coaches vote with a 90% majority passage requirement to ever deviate from the famous ’63 Rose Bowl duds. Glad that’s settled. Improvement can be way over-rated.
