Morning Buzz: Can You Name All Of These USC Playboy All-Americans?

1970.PLAYBOY

I continue to educate myself about the history of USC football and I’m intrigued more than usual because I never heard of one of the Trojans pictured above. Can you name them without researching? This is the 1970 Playboy All-American defensive team and when I first glanced at the photo, I thought it contained two USC players. But there’s a third I nearly skipped because I did not recognize the name.

I reveal all three and the entire Playboy offensive and defensive teams after the jump:

That’s the great Wild Bunch defensive linemen, Tody Smith (93) and Charlie Weaver (84). But who is No. 53 between them? It’s USC linebacker Greg Slough and I admit I never heard of him until now. John McKay said before the 1970 season that Slough was probably the best linebacker in the nation.

Interestingly, he did not make the all-Pacific-8 Conference team or any other All-American teams during his career.

Slough played two seasons with the Oakland Raiders and was traded to the L.A. Rams but does not appear to have played in a regular-season game.

OK, now let’s identify the entire Playboy 1970 team since you can’t run these pictures without saying who everyone is in the photos. First, the offense.

Now the defense:

      • You guys need to up your game. No towel wave or 8 claps for those weak takes. Now get back to hoping for the remote possibility UCLA could actually win an important game this year.

    • actually, the story reads more that there are all-americans and the program stinks anyway. SC’s gone from producing top talent to killing it. KIFF ON!

      • He needs to stay in bed. Plus, gotroy just put in a fresh set of batteries

      • Hi “Nobs”! just wanted to let you know i watched “42” this weekend, which is the inspiring story of Jackie Robinson.

one thing that stood out, is the director did a good job of selecting pasty white, pig-eyed ugh-a-mugs to portray the ignorant Southern Racists, and i’ll be danged, they looked just like Mark Larsen!!!

have a great day, you old pig-eyed son of a biscuit eater.

    • And here I thought you liked Scott Wolf.

I personally think he’s doing a great job with this series this summer. It has been a great deal of fun to go back and learn more about all of the great players USC has produced. USC’s two greatest strengths right now (and what is sustaining them through this rebuild) are its traditions and its location.

Bucket, you need to show more respect for Wolf. He deserves much better in a fanboy.

        • Los Angeles. No NFL team. Media market loves USC and treats it as the NFL team in the second largest market in America. Always on national TV so players get a lot of exposure.

          Yes. Seriously.

          • Very solid points! Hard for bRUIN’s to argue FACTS.. I dont think they like slaps in the face of truth..
            Wait… hold on… the build up…
3 win in 15 years! UCLA OWNS LA FOOTBALL!

          • You know UCLA doesn’t get credit for a win if a USC vacates the win, right?

Oklahoma is not the 2004 BCS champ.

UCLA still only has 3 wins in 15 years. USC just only gets credit for 10 of the 12 wins because of sanctions.

          • No. Even the NCAA can’t cancel time. The year still happened .

The vacated wins only affect USC’s total. Not UCLA’s. They don’t reverse the game. They vacate a win.

No matter how litigious the US becomes, you can’t win a football game in court. The best you can do is deny your opponent a win as well.

          • The only win that really counts BM is UCLA 35 – SUCC 14 and two snapped ankles at the crumbling mausoleum. Dem’s da facts Bunky. Doo-Dah. Is your PSL check in the mail yet?

          • No TF, ESPN loves SUCC because SUCC and ESPN are bidness partners. When SUCC finishes the 2014 season 7 – 5 we will see how much ESPN loves SUCC.

          • You’ve made this inane argument so many times, it’s becoming comical. Just how many schools have their games broadcast on ESPN radio? So unless your argument is that USC’s deal with AM 710 is ESPN’s most profitable, then explain how USC is treated so much more favorably than all of the other schools who have broadcast deals with their own ESPN radio station.

I understand your blind hatred of USC. But your conspiracy theories are straight out of Roswell.

They are fun to read though. Keep them coming.

          • Yap all you want TF, ESPN and SUCC are bidness partners. It behooves ESPN to hype SUCC as a top 10 contender. But you, I know, and most FB people with common sense, that SUCC FB program is a leaky Yacht in the Pac-12 ocean. Yet ESPN hypes a SUCC FB team that FAILED to score ONE TD in its own spring game. RAH-RAH on TF, because that’s all SUCC has got. RAH-RAH’s don’t block.

          • So what actually happened at Roswell?

You have a real gift for conspiratorial spin. You should report for Russia Today!

          • Very cool TF, especially from you who grovels for CommieSUCC and his Hammer and Sickle symbol. Recently, TF, unknown to you, 298 innocent people on a civilian aircraft were shot out of the sky, by as whole’s who bow and scrap to Putain and the Hammer and Sickle. Nice shot, Igor. Maybe next time your family might be some the bodies now lying dead on the fields of Ukraine. Hammer and Sickle on TF.

          • Sorta like the idea that everyone hates SC and that’s why the NCAA conspired to take them Down?

      • TrojanFan3.0 7 months ago…..
And you love the flavor of your cheerios!
        Another CowPolyFan3.0 Summer Rerun!

    • Wasn’t M. Lee a Playboy Pre-Season AA; so was Matt Barkely. Remember Barkely was also the Pre-Season Heisman winner in the “Unfinished Bidiness” season. LOL. Mikey, when does you Playboy subscription expire? Playboy has been irrelevant for thirty years. Mikey, you just love airbrushed cannonball stills, right? Are your Bonobos jealous of your fist?

      • you must look like a monkey right? that’s all you talk about. NO BRUINS, NO BRUINS. Still laughing directly at your Neanderthal face. what has always been irrelevant is ucla football, not playbody. they made a contribution in their day. except you probably like boys right?

  1. If Reggie had played back then, I bet 1970s-era Playboy would have included Bush.
