So Long, Baby Quarterback

SILLS.3

Andre L. Smith/The News Journal

Last week, David Sills aka the Baby Quarterback, committed to West Virginia, ending the long saga that started with his commitment to USC as a seventh-grader.

The move was expected and I won’t say Lane Kiffin’s reputation was tarnished because it’s already well beyond that stage. The comments that stand out today are those of Sills’ quarterback guru, Steve Clarkson, who was involved in the commitment to USC.

On social media last week, Clarkson’s called Sills the “perfect quarterback.” He also referred to him as the “golden ticket” for West Virginia. It took nearly five years for the commitment to USC to prove worthless. Now we can wait-and-see if those grand compliments come to fruition at West Virginia.

  1. It seemed that USC had fallen out of love with him and had other fish to fry. It will be interesting to see how this “perfect quarterback” fares at the next level.

    • Don’t worry. Whether we want it or not, SW will provide Sills’ weekly stats versus USC’s QB. Get ready. It’s going to be a long four years.

      • Lmao spot on. You must admit though, Scott Wolf is highly entertaining, I wish he was the UCLA beat writer.

        • He’s definitely worn on me. SW might elicit an occasional eye-roll from me but, in general, more content is better than none.

  2. wolfman, you seemed to KNOW he was never coming to begin with!!!

you PLAYED the Dummies like gullible children!!

ANOTHER EXAMPLE of the wolfman’s calculations allowing him to see LIGHT YEARS into the future and far beyond EVERYONE ELSE!!

  3. Yes, but will this be the ending of the other long saga, also known as your obsession with this kid?…and continual need to bash anything and everything Kiffin related?…..I didn’t think so…..

  4. Five years?…. wow…..It takes some kids only two months for their commitments to prove worthless…

  5. Athlete commitment is like a cotton candy shipment– not much substance to count on

      • And even then, they can be prone to transferring to another school, should they not get the amount of playing time that they believe they deserve…..

  6. Not sure how you see the kid “proved worthless” – does his decommitment make him any more worthless than say Eddie Vanderdoes?

  7. Everybody knew from the beginning this was very unlikely to happen. The last year it was more a matter of USC not wanting to tarnish the kid and say we don’t want you. Sark told the kid behind close doors and let him find another avenue. Scotty as always used this to paint a negative tone and excite his UCLA base.

    • GAAAAWD is it SOOOOO hard to admit the wolfman was RIGHT??

give the wolfman a wolf howl as a sign of respect.

      AUUUUUU-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
      (this is a wolf howl)

      • You win Scotty is the man. Leader of UCLA tripe that frequent this site. His mom is very proud of him. I wonder how many people that commit before sophomore year end up at same school? Has UCLA football recruit ever had anybody take interest before they realized no top school has interest?

        • Golly-JEEPERS!!! why so ANGRY?? you know, you don’t HAVE to visit the wolfman’s site constantly.

my opinion is you you may not be cut out for the world of big time Pac12 sports blogging/commenting.

and leave the wolfman’s mother out of this….very Mark Larson of you…

          • LOL. Your back on your game. keep up the good work. Scotty’s mom just needs to accept that she does not have to defend all things Scotty. He’s a hero just for all the wrong reasons.

          • I’m wondering when they are going to add MarLar’s name to the list of words that get your comments sent into “awaiting moderation” limbo. They have been hostile to this sort of thing on this blog in the past; we’re not allowed to mention Fred W., as you know.

          • i don’t think so….unless MarLar is ACTUALLY NOBS, which is just “rumor” and “opinion”… based on a anonymous tip.

if the name IS banned, then we KNOW it was the right ID.

          • Wait a minute — you say “if the name IS banned, then we KNOW it was the right ID.”

But the name of Fred W. was banned — so by that logic, you ARE Fred W. after all! Jethro, check it out!

          • I’m retired from that line of work now but just for fun noticed that Bucket has been talking to himself a lot the last couple of days.

          • Are you saying that you think Bucket is posting as betomas? I don’t see it.

          • I think he is. I’ve suspected it for a while and this episode furthered it for me.

I think it’s a profile he created to do his dirty work.

Look at the Jimmy Gunn thread. I think, in his euphoria, he got a little careless and slipped a bit.

Like I said, I had retired from internet detective work but this aspect of the blog seems to pull me back in.

      • Still will never understand the Kiffin reference but just like your son nothing makes sense. Kiffin was the perfect buffoon for Scotty to use his bitter glass half full attitude. Your the iron dome for this blog, just not an effective one. Keep fighting the battle and ask yourself why these UCLA honks give Scotty such a loyal following.

        • Did you learn to BS your way through tests at Florida with that kid of writing, Layla? Answer the question!

  8. after seeing what SC did to Barfly, Wittek and Kessler’s careers, it’s no wonder this kid split!

  9. Helen didn’t misread it, she deliberately lied about it and all the rah rahs said nothing.
