       • ucla’s stature as a football program is miniscule compared to USC. Always has been. Always will be.

         The Trolls just can’t stand it. They just don’t know what to say, so now suddenly that Playboy team is worthless. Well, I’ll be damn. the Pigskin Review suddenly doesn’t matter anymore.

         The Trolls all flood this place because of Scottie…but he’s shoving it in their face every day that while USC players make all the teams, ucla’s players go unmentioned.

         Both pre and post-season, the Trojan players rule the roost. USC always gets significantly more play in the press and recog than the little gutties. Nothing ucla can do about it but crow about winning the last two years – and three out of the last 15. I’ll take it.

         • Jackie Boy…I have never disputed Troy’s history on here. Facts are facts. SC has a far more prolific history in football than my Bruins. I don’t agree about the “always will be” part of your argument….but time will tell.

           But the Commie regularly refers to the “Westside Limousine Liberals”….that was my point with regards to Playboy. Frankly, I would much rather be a Westside Limousine Liberal than a Corolla Conservative from South Central, like Commie boy who seems to be jealous of successful people.

           You are right. USC has a far more prolific history than ucla. Nobody disputes that.

           It’s easy for you to say that will change, but I don’t think it will anymore than I believe we will ever begin to overtake you in basketball. We won’t. We have way too much ground to make up, like you do in football.

           Plus, the cultures are very different. Football is ingrained in USC’s DNA. It’s simply not at UCLA, where hoops and Wooden will always be your legacy. Oh, you will get better in football with more $, and your program has already improved a lot.

           But football is an institution at USC. We fire our coaches in parking lots if necessary. Our main rival is Notre Dame. We aspire to NCs, Heismans and No. 1 draft picks.

           So, if you ever catch us. It won’t be for over 100 years. Yes, it would take you that long to match our accomplishments, because it’s not like we are slowing down. USC has football DNA in its blood.

           Our team is getting ready to ramp up again now that the NCAA is back in its box. Before long, we’ll be at 85 player strength. See how we look then.

         • I think we simply have a different opinion of the future. I think SC settled for the easy pick with Sarkisian, I found it only somewhat more inspiring than UCLA selecting Steve Alford. I don’t think the track record for either of these guys justified them being hired by their respective schools.

           I don’t really care abut the next 100 years! I would like to see us get 1 NC before I leave the earth. The only one we have was the year before I was born, so I am 0 for my lifetime! I believe that Mora has put us in better position than anyone since Tommy Prothro prior to that game in 1967. However, if our administration doesn’t continue stepping up to the plate, it could all disappear in an instant. There are plenty of football players around for 2 excellent teams in Los Angeles. I think it will be very interesting. Right now, you have the history and the tradition. At the moment, I believe we have the better coaching staff and some momentum.

           There is no excuse for SC to be so bad in basketball. The biggest obstacle is that SC has even less tradition in basketball than UCLA in football and the alumni don’t care about basketball at all. Tim Floyd had a chance to turn it around but he either broke the rules or was sacrificed by Mike Garrett, depending upon whom you talk to.

           Since 1975, UCLA has 1 NC in basketball and 6 Final Fours. Hardly dominant by our standards. SC went from the mid-70s to the Pete Carroll era in relative obscurity by SC standards. Pete’s era was dragged down by probation in the end. So, neither has been as dominant as they were in their heyday. The question is whether or not Sark is the guy to bring the program back. I don’t think he is. Perhaps you do.

         • USC was the most dominant program in the country from 2000 – 2009. This is widely acknowledged to be true so I couldn’t care less if you believe it. If you don’t believe Carroll’s time at USC was a “heyday” when you were nearly helpless against him (blow-out city each year except one) and he compiled a 97-19 record, 7-2 bowl record, 4 Rose Bowl wins, then you cannot be helped. Feeble ucla hasn’t won a RB in almost 30 years.

           As far as you not caring about the next 100 years, you should. It’s your only hope. You’ll never catch up to us in 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc. Actually, you’ll never catch us period.

           If Sark isn’t the guy for us, we’ll replace him and get it right. I could just as easily say to you that Mora will leave for the NFL if he ever really wins anything at UCLA, which he hasn’t done so far. Your program could easily slip quickly back to what is was just 3 years ago when we were beating you 50-0 while you were dressed up like food caterers.

           We are bad in basketball. Usually, we are lucky to have good teams for a short time. So what? I told you, we are a football school. We don’t really care about basketball at USC. We care about football, by far the most popular sport in America. And you’ll never catch us. We will always have a better tradition than you. It’s in our blood and it’s not in yours.

         • I think you are misunderstanding what I said. The record shows about 25 years of inconsistency at SC prior to Carroll. Carroll’s years were a heyday, but a tarnished heyday. For me, your heyday was the McKay/Robinson I years….maybe because I was younger and we tend to care more about those things in our youth. Plus, I went to a lot of the games with my Uncle that went to SC. So, perhaps that colors my perception.

           I think I said that our current situation with Mora could end at any minute. And yes, he hasn’t won ANYTHING yet. He is building something, but it could end. I don’t think it would slip back to the Dorrell/Neuheisel era as Mora has made the program more attractive but with AD Guerrero anything is possible.

           Also, I am not worrying about “catching” you (SC). I am looking toward fielding a team of national significance in the near future. UCLA was the better program during the Red Sanders era and was extremely competitive under Tommy Prothro. It would be nice to get to that level for awhile. These things don’t happen overnight.

         • Unfortunately for you, Wooden’s years have been severely tarnished as well. We all know he knew for years exactly what Gilbert did to help not only recruit players to ucla but keep them at the school despite various types of embarrassing problems. Heck. He even taught his kids how to tie their shoes.

           Aside from that, I’m glad to hear you’re not worried about catching USC. I thought you said we won’t always be the more historically dominant program. Well, we will. Sure you’ll beat us from time to time and put together some streaks no doubt.

           But USC will always have by far the greater football tradition, just like we do now. Since you can’t grasp that Carroll’s years were “heyday” years, I really can’t understand your thinking. Were I a bruin fan, I guess I’d get it.

         • I am just saying that in my eyes the Carroll years were more aberration based upon the previous 25 years. Granted SC has had Jones, McKay and Robinson….an illustrious history. Sark or whoever follows Sark will have to prove it again. SC has everything to offer land will he land in the Jones, McKay, Robinson and Carroll court or the Robinson 2, Larry Smith, Paul Hackett grouping?

           UCLA had 1 NC with Jim Harrick in basketball and 3 Final Fours under Howland…but those were more aberration in my eyes as well. There has been no sustained excellence in basketball since Wooden. I am not here to debate Wooden among all the haters here. I would highly recommend the Seth Davis book on Wooden. It was an interesting and honest portrayal IMO.

         • No reason to pull the “hater” card on me, which most all bruins do when someone questions Saint John. You would do well to talk with Jerry Tarkanian, Bobby Knight, Digger Phelps and Bob Boyd, no doubt. They all know a helluva lot more than Seth Davis could ever cook up. Wooden was one of the greatest coaches of all time. If you think he was in the dark about very obvious things his own players and raw common sense tell us was true, so be it.

         • I wasn’t calling you a hater. I have never seen you make the negative comments about Wooden. There are several others who go deep down that road. Tarkanian is quoted in the book and is not a Wooden hater. Wooden actually recommended that Indiana hire Tarkanian when they hired Knight. I have no respect for Knight or his opinion, nor Phelps for that matter. Phelps was nothing without Wooden or UCLA giving their program visibility. Wooden did not become “St. John” until many years after he retired.

           In the book, Davis mentions that Wooden went to JD Morgan several times concerned about Sam Gilbert and that Morgan told Wooden that he as the AD would handle the Gilbert situation. In the end, Morgan did nothing as he was reportedly afraid that Gilbert would physically harm him. There are many that think Wooden could/should have done more. In those days, there were no compliance people in the athletic department. It was also shown that the UCLA basketball players knew how much money the SC football players were getting and wanted to be supported accordingly. That was the way the game was played in those days. The rules have changed now. Only in the SEC can you get away with that kind of nonsense!

         • There’s always been cheating in college athletics and there always will be. Forever. UCLA has been in cheating in football (this is all public info) over the last 15 years and never gotten nailed or even pursued. If anybody at the NCAA had wanted the bruins, they’d be dust.

           Wooden cheated. Morgan allowed it. Case closed. You don’t care about Knight or Phelps? I do. Wooden certainly wasn’t morally superior to either man. Tarkanian once said that if UCLA got caught cheating, he was the guy who would be put on probation.

           There are always sacred cows and those given preferable treatment. I don’t care when Wooden became known as “Saint John.” The point is, he was never a saint, not on the court, not off it and not between the lines.

           But I digress. USC’s football tradition will always be far superior to UCLA’s. It’s in our blood. Good luck catching us. I hope to see some great contests between the two rivals in the future and I’m fairly certain we’re in for some brutal battles, many of which I’ve seen in the past in person.

           And I don’t think there’s ever been more animosity between ucla and USC fans. No respect between us anymore. It’s getting to be very bad between the schools because of social media and zero tolerance for losing. Disdain seems to have settled in while the ND/SC rivalry now brings out a much more appreciative, heathy association. Well, I guess you can’t win ’em all,

4. Ricky Bell, man. The most punishing runner in USC history. When he got to the second level, he absolutely destroyed DBs.
