Fortunately for the Pac-12 coaches attending media day Wednesday and Thursday, a bus took them to Paramount Studios in Hollywood. But Washington coach Chris Petersen, who interviewed for the USC job, was asked if he dealt with Southern California traffic.
“These freeways?” Petersen said. “No, but I’ve been in traffic in Seattle. Oh, gosh, and that’s one thing in Seattle is I’m not really far from the office so I don’t really have to deal with the traffic.
“But everything else is you have to plan your day out. Can’t go there. Why not? Well, it’s going to take two hours.”
Scott, I think you are prematurely writing articles about Chris Peterson. He is very new to Seattle. Yes, Seattle has a deadlock traffic, but it is very predictable and you learn how to manage it. I never had problem moving around Seattle.Right after work during the rush hour traffic, it takes only 45 minutes to get from North of the city to all the way to Tacoma, and that’s a distance and through the major traffic.
LA is a different story, but what people don’t realize in LA is the fact that despite the long distances and the amount of cars, traffic actually flows. Sometimes, you may have to use a different highway instead of the obvious, but you get there.
I don’t understand these questions baiting Chris Peterson to come up with a reason why he did not choose USC. I think the decision was mutual and USC was a lot more comfortable with Sark. We can’t live in the past and we have to move on. Decision is made, and we have a hack of a recruiter from Southern California. We have to make the best out of what we have!
Petersen did not choose USC because he was never offered the job.
That’s like saying Scottie turned down the Pulitzer Prize and the decision was mutual.
BTW: U District to downtown Seattle is 15 minutes even during rush hour, so I don’t know what Petersen is talking about.
Helen, I agree with you. Seattle does not really have traffic, specially if you are Los Angeles trained. They have a lot of terrible drivers though. In terms of Chris Peterson, I just want Scott to move on. Sark is our head coach now!
The majority of “traffic” I encounter while in Seattle is on their 405.
Scottie Goes Fishin’ – Part II. He’s still looking for a hook to degrade anything associated with USC football. Thinly veiled… real thinly veiled.
Thin …. really thin, like Carpaccio
Helen’s Rah-dar is on high alert this time of year.
Many may think this is a foolish question by Wolf but Petersen has no ability to show a sense of humor.
In that interview for USC’s HC position Petersen had with Haden, JK McKay et. al. they quickly sensed Petersen is very averse to dealing with ‘media’. He was quoted in that infamous loss to NV (blown FG in regulation as time ended) of noting how many reporters etc. were there which prompted one scribe to quip “…he thinks ‘x’ number of writers is a lot in Reno-NV? Good luck to him moving onto any real major market.”
Petersen now is in a major market and he’d get ready to being compared to PC – he’s not in Boise-ID anymore he’s in King County-WA – the biggest city in the Pacific Northwest – coaching in the Pac-12 and better get ready to playing in – SF-CA, PHX-AZ, DEN-CO, SLC-UT and especially Los Angeles-CA – the 2mnd largest city in the USA.
Might be Larry Smith redux.
I agree with you 100%. He never had to recruit for a championship team against the likes of Texas, Alabama, UCLA. He never had to face a real adversity. If he never had to explain himself to the LA Fan base. Haden and USC probably saw something that we don’t know during the interview. Heck, he complains already about Seattle, what was he going to do in LA?
Also, include that Sark is a young smart coach that has an upside. Yes, he is learning but he is a players coach. Chris Peterson already picked. He is a great coach, but he is at an age that he is not going to change anymore.
Burak, Hawkins, Petersen’s predecessor, who moved onto CO, was not the reason for Boise State’s success – it was Petersen as evident by Hawkins failure with the Buffaloes – having said that Dan Snyder at KS St. is very distant pretty cold to the media but even accounting for his advanced age Snyder knew where his personality fit best – Manhattan-KS
Petersen may do very well at WA – compare his demeanor with Rick Leach at WA St. – believe me the 4th estate always loves the ‘fun’ guy and that means the media will cut leach a lot of slack – not Petersen – he ‘s going to have to earn it.
FYI, 298, Mike Leach is the HC of Washington State; Rick Leach was a Michigan QB in the 20th century. I’d call that a “breathtaking” Faux Pas.
Dirk Koetter set the table for the recent success at Boise State. Neither he or Hawkins were very successful as HC in the PAC-12. Bill Snyder?
He was not ready for prime time. Let him stay up in small market Seattle.
Not even Scotty’s mom can explain this post? He is off the deep end. Bucket please explain what Scotty is trying to accomplish?
Layla can you explain why Golly-Nerd and FlamerOn locked BM out of the hotel room at the Bahia and made him sleep out on a chaise lounge by the pool all night?
you and all your “gay” post.. Every one on this site can see the love and passion you and Charlie Bucket share for Wolf.
Man love is common there at the Daily News..
Nothing “gay” about Flamer On in her Princess Amidala outfit and Golly-Nerd in his Wookie outfit enjoying some Star Wars love…unless youi know something we don’t , BM?
Everyone can see the love and passion you have for Star Wars as you entered the “When Nerds Attack” Comic Con Convention Best Costume Contest/50 and Over, BM. I heard your Jar Jar Binks costume is a winner!
Layla, I heard you attended the panel discussion of The Walking Dead at the “When Nerds Attack” Comic Con Convention in San Diego. Who is your fave Zombie?
Maybe another consideration is the amount of (VIOLENT) crime in the area surrounding Southern Cal. Another Graduate student was killed as he walked home from a study session just yesterday according to The LAPD and The Press Telegram.
sad day for torgans….
The most dangerous schools for women- UCLA #1

The most dangerous colleges in America, from Business Insider- UCLA #1

On the heels news of yet another homicide to another southern cal student from china…not something to bring up imho.
Say what????????????????
There was another chinese SC student beaten to death couple of days ago walking back home from a study group. I dont think Ray Reyes should be commenting on how unsafe westwood is in the light of such news.
How sad. Thanks for the update Ted.
Yea, Adrian Peterson! Sh*t happens…mediocre Texas beat 11-2 Oklahoma last season.
