USC Morning Buzz: Steve Sarkisian On Being Picked Behind UCLA In Poll

USC coach Steve Sarkisian answers my question on UCLA being picked by 37 of the 39 voters to win the Pac-12 South in the preseason media poll.
And here is my story on Wednesday’s proceedings at Paramount Studios. Link here

  1. Sarkiffian went on to say…..”and if we lose, it’s no big deal, because we weren’t picked to win in the first place. You gotta remember we’re short on players, and of the guys we do have…most are special admits who couldn’t get into Cal, Stanford, Arizona or UCLA, but I’m not gonna make excuses”.
A great big Torgan FIT UN Shout out to my pal NUBSIE…
    FIT UN!

    • Have you heard Sarkisian complain about the scholarship count? He has said from day 1 that the focus is on “what we do have, not what we don’t”. Keep pushing your agenda though, I’m sure somebody appreciates it!

      • I hear you FOV, but how do you account for Sarkisian’s just above .500, five year W/L record at @ U-Dub?

        • How would you explain Jim Mora’s recent success at UCLA versus his mediocrity in the NFL?……With the Falcons, Mora went 11-5, 8-8 and 7-9………initially, Carroll was terrible in the NFL, then he was great at USC, then he turned the Seattle Seahawks into a championship team….I would suspect that the quality of the players and assistant coaches would have something to do with it….sometimes the luck of the draw (schedule) can play into it, too….

          • pros and college are different. sark’s a proven schmo on the college level.

          • Gotroy posting under another username, truly pathetic. I’m sure your husband or wife approves of this behavior

          • Let’s be fans of a different school we didn’t go to today! How about Ole Miss?

          • easy, T-Fail is a in limbo without Nubsie!! Nubsie was the only trOXan who replied to T-Fail and now he’s… well we don’t know WHERE he is!!!

          • CowPolyFan3.0 will bring in his sock puppets TrojanFamily and Wisdom to argue with you.

          • If you sit on your sock puppet(hand) for five minutes it will feel like a new woman every night….ouch!!!!

          • Is that what you do after your wifey the Real SC Fan exiles you to the couch, CowPolyFan3.0?

          • CowPolyFan3.0 returns after his latest scolding from his harpy wife the Real USC Fan. Poor Cow PolyFan3.0!

          • Look at Saban’s record at MSU. Or what about Les Miles’ record before LSU? These trolls don’t understand that it’s all about being at the right place at the right time. We don’t know if that will be the case with Sarkisian, he hasnt even coached a game at USC yet.

          • Exactly….let’s see how this season plays out before writing off Sark prematurely………it’s amazing how great coach is with great players, Phil Jackson with Michael Jordan and Kobe, and Erik Spoelstra with LeBron…..

          • yeah, luck of the draw scheduling? We are playing Oregon and Washington this year, as opposed to USC playing WSU and OSU. We are playing Texas on the road. USC is playing a bunch of patsies for non-conference.

Give me a break with this “lucky scheduling”:

          • Thank you for validating my point……is it somehow USC’s fault regarding the Pac-12 scheduling? Notre dame is a patsy?… good one….Alabama in 2016?… Give ME a break……and I don’t mean a Kit Kat bar……

          • Haha, thank goodness you got Alabama on the schedule… otherwise, you’d be left with BYU.

          • He’s worse than your average troll….he’s nothing more than an uneducated hater of anything and everything that’s related to USC….I’m sure that it all stems from his unhappy childhood….

          • Haha, yes, and Texas was AWESOME last year. But seriously, are you, the MIGHTY TROGANS, hanging your hat on BYU as a tough OOC game? That’s comical.

          • Haven’t heard any Trojans “hanging their hat on BYU as a tough OOC game”. Wolf keeps mentioning them six years down the line but I don’t consider him a Trojan fan. See where troy22 has to reply for you and Wolf. Glad to see you and I and 22 agree that Texas sucks right now and ucla has three OOC wusses on their ’14 schedule. You’re the one who commented “you’d be left with BYU”. How about Ole Miss, TF?

          • More latent homosexual posts from CowPolyFan3.0. Your poor wifey the Real SC Fan must know you are switching to guys.

          • Notre Dame is a patsy? Texas is down with a new coach. ND is always tough with one of the best coaches in college football.

          • You named three teams that will beat UCLA, the fourth and fifth are Stanford and USC.

          • Okay, honey britches. Keep telling yourself that. Come see me in November after the Bruins pound the Trojans’ a$$es into the Rose Bowl turf, with Myles Jack annihilating Kody Kotex and Brett Hundley running for 3 touchdowns… Again.

        • USC will finish the season with at least two, possibly three, more wins than UCLA.

        • Didn’t he take over a program that had 6-8wins in 4 years? I’d say he did well at UW.

    • He also mentioned.. Its UCLA! three wins in the last fifteenth years.. I’d my more concerned with a real rivalry like Notre Dame, than the little brother school…

      • What’s cool about Sark is that he’s not only taking over a team that can’t beat UCLA, but he’s coming from a team that just got curb-stomped buy them too!

        • Funny you mention because I remember Mora taking over a bum team that got beat 50-0.. but I guess bRuins forget the obvious!

      • Notre Dame: 7 Super Bowl starting QB’s – SUCC: ZERO Super Bowl QB starters.

        • You are obviously correct about the lack of USC QB’s in the Super Bowl, BUT:

Top Five College Football Teams in Super Bowl Appearances by School

          1 Miami (Fla.)117
          2 USC 111
          3 Penn State 103
          4 UCLA 102
          5 Michigan 99
          6 Notre Dame 99

          • I bet UCLA’s 102 appearances in the Super Bowl shocked the SUCCster’s faithful.

          • The fact that there aren’t any SEC teams listed in the top 5 is also a shock……

        • And who was the MVP in last seasons Super Bowl, played earlier this year?……..

        • and that’s relevant because…..? Just like a bRUIN to change the topic to something meaningless! HA!

  2. Has anyone noticed that Nubs has been very quiet for the past few days? Anyone know where he is?

    • Are you in charge of monitoring daily attendance?…. will there be a roll call?

      • you should be helping us look for Nubsie!! he was the BACKBONE of the Dummies!!! so bold!!! so brazen!! an unapologetic racist and fiend!!

could it be the Cadre he mocked so cavalierly spooked him with a little internet jibber-jabber???

        #Pig-EyedChicken

        • Bucket, I’ve gotta hand it to ya……only you and the Cadre could use the words “Back” and “Bone” in the same sentence and keep a straight face…..

    • i have DEFINITELY noticed!!! Nubsie so enjoyed spouting his hate-speak on this blog!!! we looked for him on Wang’s blog, the schoolyard, EVERYWHERE!!!

what POWERFUL forces could cause him to flee like a scalded rat???

when the recent rumors were posited, Nubs said: “go for it” and “i don’t care” and repeatedly DENIED the rumor was true!! so that’s not it….maybe he is on Special Luxury Vacation Cruise designed only for the 1%’ers??? (i sure hope it’s not one of my “cruises”!!!)

      #It’saMystery

      • Chucker Bucker, it doesn’t seem like much of a mystery…betomas unmasked Nobs and exposed the ugly son of a gun’s asymmetrical face, and now he’s in hiding.
It’s about time someone exposed that ignorant tool bag. Karma is real. Divine justice.

        • everyone knows the internets are a place for wild conjecture and conspiracy theories….but it IS odd that Nubsie left town faster than Pete Carroll with the NCAA nipping as his heels!!!

but i always did picture Nubsie as a pasty-white, pig-eyed racist looking Son of a Biscuit Eater…..hmmm

          #WhattaCoinkydink!

          • Bucket, as you have probably seen by now, this blog is suddenly burdened by the return of VB, last seen being mercilessly mocked by his fellow UCLA fans on the other blog. My question to you is this: Cadre vs. UBTA in a fight — who wins?

          • are you serious?? we have Bucket (Lover AND a Fighter), Thai (master of Thai marital arts) Yoda (master of the light saber) Count Smack (fangs) betomas (master of technology) etc….

against the Utah Business Travel Association???

it’s like Don Knotts vs Clubber Lang!!! we PITY the fools!!

          • We ARE The FIVE Amigos! We are everywhere. We ran that living piece of human excrement (nubsie) out of town. I pity da fool. All you knuckleheads should be thanking bethomas for his fine work. The World is a better place!
            fit Un KNUCKLEHEADS!

        • Hey, careful now, betomas was only speculatin’ about a hypothetical scenario!

          • Yes, he was. 😉

But I wonder WHY Nubs disappeared after that opinion and speculatin’ took place. I just wonder why.

          • Oh, I don’t know…perhaps because his real identity was revealed on this blog by a trojan commenter. But, of course, it’s all just opinion, so it’s the most astounding mystery ever that there was an exposé (cause) and then Nobs disappeared from this blog (effect) after threatening that everyone would be sued, including Scott Wolf, the moderator, and every last commenter who made any mention of anything related to this (obviously, that threat fell flat and even more people have commented on the apparent connection between Nobs exposed and Nobs disappeared). Now why would NObs go to that extent then mysteriously disappear if he wasn’t who they said he was? I cannot for the life of me put two and two together.

      • Is your wifey going to make you sleep on the couch again when all your comments get banned again,CowPolyFan3.0?

  3. Oh sure, preseason rankings don’t matter, unless USC is the team picked to win. Like two seasons ago when they were the preseason #1 team with Barkley returning for “unfinished business.” Preseason rankings sure mattered to USC then. Well, Anthony Barr finished Matty’s business and wiped that smug smile off his dopey face.

    • This season, preseason ranking definitely don’t matter, thank goodness…the College Football Playoff Committee won’t be will issuing its first rankings until Tuesday, October 28, after the completion of the ninth week of the regular season….. this makes much more sense than teams having to play from behind, due to a preseason handicap of having a low ranking..

      • The BCS also did not release their rankings until several weeks into the season either…

        • Yes, but weren’t the early season polls (the USA Today Coaches’ Poll) and rankings indirectly factored into the BCS formula/equation?… meaning, if you started out ranked low. or unranked, to begin with, you had to climb up the ladder to even be on the BCS radar?

          • Shhh don’t confuse the bRuins with BCS talk, they were never invited.

          • FlameOn, which dress are you wearing tonight for Opening Ceremonies at the “When Nerds Attack” Comic Con Convention in San Diego? The black strapless evening gown or your pink sarong?

  4. is it me, or does Sark use the tern “quite honestly” too often??

that is annoying. is it supposed to add an air of profundity to the comment? further, not only does it suggest the person is not completely honest most of the time, in my experience, people who use that term are LESS forthcoming than your average person.

i’ll keep an eye on this, wolfman.

  5. If UCLA is going to be a force to be reckoned with it is 2014 – they will have played a very credible schedule both in and OOC as well as their great qb. The question is injuries. Advantage – they play both OR 11th Oct. and Stanford at home 28th Nov. ‘but’ Stanford is their final game.

Their toughest road games are all on the road against: TX 13th Sept., 2 wks. later AZ St. 27th Sept. and then 8th Nov. – 2 wks. before the USC game – WA @ Seattle.

This is UCLA’s year to finally be seen as a true national power – if they fail this year there is no upside for them regardless of the easier ‘in conference’ opponents next year (WA St and OR St.) nor the also-rans OOC – VA, BYU and UNLV – it is this year or bust.

I’m with Sark – it does matter that come 22nd November the USC / UCLA has more relevance than just a victory over the opponent.

      • Bleauz one vast difference btwn. Sark and Kiffin is that Kiffin never looked in control even though he wanted to be – that in turn gave him the weird tightly wound script: ‘I’m the only one who will ever understand who does actually care – Hey! Don’t you even think about picking up that paper cup until I tell you where to place it! I know this run play will work it’s why I will never need an assistant (but always be one) – this is (was) my dream job and no one is going to take it from me!”

Sark looks relaxed and is having fun as Wolf noted in his article today’s Daily News/Breeze.

I think Bo Pelini and Layne Kiffin are related

        • I agree…and Kiffin looked wound pretty tight during the Alabama Spring Scrimmage…..he’s still just a 39 year old punk who has somehow managed to always land on his feet with primo job opportunities at USC, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee, USC again and now Alabama…….

          • As the ESPN reporter Rosh stated “He had an amazing ability to continually fail upward!”

      • Yes we saw that with the pressure on those 2000s teams, inexplicably losing to teams like Oregon State…

      • “Loser Crown”

        What “Crown” ?

Oh ya, that’s right, UCLA won a bowl game last year ??

It was the “We-Finally-Won-a-Bowl-Game” Crown ???

At least there’s “something” to celebrate !

        PATHETIC…

        FightOn

        • They’ll find out that it’s a lot easier to get to the top of hill than it is to stay there…….

      • Sure. Okay. Whatever helps you stomach your piss poor football and basketball programs.

        • Two (Thats the number “2”) years ago “50 to 0” !

          50 TO NOTHING !!!
          “TWO YEARS AGO”

FROM A TEAM “2” YEARS INTO PROBATION ?

          “HUMILIATING” !!!!!

Talk about a “poor” football program…

          FightOn

      • Sally, that’s about as pessimistic view one could have ?

        The Bruins ain’t that bad

        FightOn

    • While a valiant effort, I don’t understand the thinking that it’s this year or nothing. While losing Hundley will hurt next year, you need look no further than SC’s teams in the 2000’s to see that good QB’s can be replaced. Whether it’s Rosen or, more likely, Woulard next year, UCLA’s is STACKED with talent for years to come. Jack, Vanderdoes, etc. will be blasting SC for the foreseeable future.

      • You’re not grasping 2014 – this IS UCLA’s year to make a difference – if they fail to get into a BCS Bowl another Pac-12 team does the analysis of the UCLA team, coach and staff is “…they’re still acting like they want to win but don’t know how to.”

How many years has there been this expectation of success? Last good coach prior to Mora was Bob Toledo and regardless of his record in 1998 he was gone after 2001 – UCLA dominated USC in the 90’s as did Notre Dame – a quality head coach who understands success is long term provides the attraction to a program that has no where near the pedigree of USC in terms of drawing talented prospects. It’s this year or bust.

        • You forget how bad USC recruiting was from 1988 – 1998, especially at the quarterback positions?

It was “really” bad and it produced “average” teams at best, and the Trojans paid dearly for it !

A head coach is important but recruiting “rules” !!!

An average head coach can take a talented team far, a great coach can only make average talent respectable…

          FightOn

          • Yes Todd Marinovich and Rob Johnson really sucked. Now we know why Larry Smith and John Robinson couldn’t win.

    • Commie298’s analysis of 2014 UCLA FB on Inside SUCC’s blog.

Own’s analysis of SUCC’s FB and its cupcake schedule: SUCC goes 7 – 5 SUCC’s disastrous season begins at Palo Alto with an early September mega-loss.

UCLA will be waiting at the RB 11/22/2014.

  6. LMAO funny USC has only 11 starters coming back from 2013 and Scott has 18 in his story here, I listed the 11 players, and he conveniently deleted my post.
