Jim Mora v. Steve Sarkisian?

Who could UCLA coach Jim Mora be referring to in these comments?

“Most importantly, I’m committed to our players,” Mora said. “We go recruit these kids, go into their homes and talk to their parents and we ask them to commit to us. We see coaches run out on them, and I don’t think that’s right.

“We sit in our meeting rooms and talk to our kids about being selfless and sacrifice and putting a team first. Then you see coaches when the first opportunity comes up to take off and better their situation, they run and do it and leave these kids behind with these, to me, empty lessons.”

Can’t be Sark. His “first opportunity” would have been the UCLA job. Turned it down to stick with U-Dub…. sorry Scottie!

    • FIGHTONtoVICTORY

He also was USC’s first choice once Carroll left, but decided to stay committed with UW and trying to bring that program back from the dead. So if Mora is referring to Sark, it seems that he is uneducated on the subject.

      • ProbationU

He was probably not referring to anyone in particular, just shoring up his own recruiting efforts. I certainly don’t think he was referring to Sark. There are always other schools saying this coach won’t be around…etc. etc. etc. I don’t see anything more than that.

We will see down the road if he sticks to his commitment or not. He also has an out if UCLA does not come through with the football facility. We will see what Dan Guerrero does.

      • Trogan Fan

So Sark’s loyal because he turned down a sure-fire career killer of a job right behind Pete and just before sanctions? Classic!

  • oneillwatch

He could be talking about any coach – including himself when the right deal comes along – or he gets fired.. Loyalty is a two-way street: coaches have long ago learned that lesson. I wonder how Mr. Mora’s words will taste to him when he eats them.

  • Independent_George

Maybe. Could also be referring to Charile Strong. Or Chris Peterson. Or James Franklin. Or Bret Bielema. Or Todd Graham. Or Chip Kelly. Or Jim Harbaugh. Or Pete Carroll. Or Nick Saban. Or Tim Floyd. Or just about EVERY COLLEGE HEAD COACH EVER.

Please, Sark spent five years at U Dub. Your boyfriend James Franklin only spend three years as Vandy.

    • Ben Factor

Mora is doing a good job at UCLA. And part of that is selling what you have to sell: the Westside; a new coach at the rival school.

It’s empty manipulation. Not unlike Pat Haden announcing with fanare the 4-year scholarship–which USC really offered before the announcement, but without a name.

And Mora, he’s in his 3rd year. Cut the crap, dude, until you hit at least 7.

It’s called dirty recruiting and is quite common in college. Remember when opposing coaches would say to recruits that Pete Carroll would be jumping to the NFL soon in an effort to persuade them to not commit to USC? Mora must have a short memory as he just recently attempted to jump ship to Texas.

The difference between USC recruiting and UCLA recruiting is Sark communicates the positives of attending USC and Mora tries to deceive the recruit with a negative message about the competition to the recruit – which school would you rather attend?

    • UCLA owns LA Football

Didn’t Sark/SUCC just lose a SUCC lean TE recruit to DUKE FB, Red? UCLA didn’t bother recruiting the TE, so maybe the positives you claim for attending SUCC, don’t strictly exist.

    • anno nimus

please…the only reason USC is offering 4 year scholies, is because of desperation, they see the ground they are losing to UCLA. Despite UCLA not offering 4 year scholies, they are still doing just fine. UCLA is classified academically with the Ivy league schools, while USC is is located in an area where a student can lose his/her life just sitting in their car ouside the campus, of course they are going to offer 4 years!

Hilarious post, considering USC is currently under federal investigation for dozens of rapes at USC that go unreported by the school to proper authirities for the purpose of not having a crime rate that would go thru the roof, to the point of losing revenue. Three murdered USC students in the past 2 years – including one yesterday??? A schools that is on lockdown 10 hours every day from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM?? A school so unsafe that it resembles a prison with bar fence completely around the campus. YOU’RE A MORON!!!

USC offered Klemm over $800,000 to join the SC staff and he preferred to stay with Mora and UCLA making $450,000 – no only do the players and the fans believe in Mora, so does his staff.

Well one things for sure you do BTW anyone who would choose to make a full $350K less is a blessing for Troy – THAT is the definition of a UCLA understanding of economics.

        • anno nimus

$350,000 is a lot of money to leave on the table, but obviously to Klemm it’s not all about the money, but integriry. Had another school offered him other than USC he might have left. Buy Klemm understands there will bigger pay days than that in his future.

Memory lapse, memory lapse, memory lapse. The SUCC FB economic model: SUCC paid Kiffy Goat’s TaTa the sum of $1.9 million as the defensive coordinator for the 2012 “Unfinished Bidness” FB season.

Kiffy Goat got about $3.75 million that same year. So SUCC, for $5.65 million, got 7 wins, six losers, Kiffy’s original Sombrero and Shades costume, and a oversized Denny’s menu to add to SUCC’s rich FB tradition and history.

That is some economic FB model O Breathtaking One.

Early in 2014 Sark hired a new OL coach, who after less then a week,on the job, told SUCC “See Ya,” for a better coaching position at Alabamy. LOL.

Reporters have noted Mora is one who is a tightly scripted coach – he exhibits what someone with an inferiority shows- you don’t do your: team, fans, coaching staff, players any favors by acting like the ‘gutty little bruin’. These are not the remarks of a coach who is confident in his progress and ability. Mora’s no different than Neuheisel except Rick at least became an amusing commentator when he was sacked – I don’t see Mora becoming anything but a nut case when this latest chapter in his life doesn’t work out.

Upon reflection, I believe Wolfie deserves the chastised spotlight…even though Senor Bucket (the pot-stirrer) says, “Sweeet Scooop wolfman” (doubtful that the wolfman could muster up a sweet scoop of vanilla ice cream). Mora is a decent coach but lacks the ability for subtle pre-season recruiting babble, thus losing effectivity.

    • rusoviet

“…but lacks ability for subtle pre-season recruiting babble…” That insight is telling – this is 2014 an era of intense media monitoring and he (Mora) hasn’t the sense to reply when anothers remark invites such – no he just wades in and that gives reporters something to feed on – his own statements.

Actually SC had a choice of locations between Downtown and Westwood prior to being built – the original founders were visionary enough to realize that there just wasn’t enough room in Westweird to build a stadium or a 100 yard long practice field, so they chose the glorious LA Coliseum and downtown LA where the “good” LA teams are, like the Lakers – beats the snot out of an 80 yard practice field and a stadium about 45 minutes to an hour drive away! hahaha don’t you think?

I know you are the one always trying to figure out who the imposters are, but who would pretend to be an old (but still sexy) lady? If I were an imposter, then I am pretty sure I would be a seriously disturbed individual. Hm, considering the characters around here, maybe I see your point.
