Money Talks

USC announced today invited guests could attend Tuesday/Wednesday practices at Howard Jones Field. That will undoubtedly mean donors. For the right price, you can experience almost anything now. Running out of the tunnel. Getting Steve Sarkisian’s autograph before the game. Choice seats. Field-level suites. Soon, alcohol is expected to be available at the Coliseum. And donors will no doubt get that first.

There is nothing wrong with maximizing income opportunities. The problem is when you create a perception that the regular fan is shut out. It’s not there yet for USC but it definitely is something that requires keeping an eye on.

  1. So UCLA punter Sean Covington left the team for academic reasons….Bummer….it happens to the best of us…..

      • Freedom of choice……part of that what makes this country great….enjoy it while it lasts……

        • “In ancient Rome there was a poem about a dog who had two bones…he licked the one he licked the other …he ran in circles he dropped dead!”

    • does it happen at SC, where they send kids down the street for dancing class?

      • Thank you for clarifying, Mr. Jam….I guess that punting isn’t winning, after all…..

        • Neuheisel is gone…so punting is no longer winning. By the way, with Heidari kicking, it is about 50/50 or slightly less that FG kicking is winning too! It would be less…but that Stanford kick was redeeming.

          • Slick Rick will always be yours, and so will his famous “punting is winning” remark. You gotta admit, it’s pretty funny. Just a bad statement that haunted the bruins from the moment he said it. To Rick’s credit, he’s shown pretty good chops on the Pac-12 Network. I enjoy his work (and some of his songs) and commend him for picking himself up and achieving success after his disastrous tenure at ucla. And…that kick that beat Stanford was redeeming to say the least. It was very nearly blocked too. So close. Truly a game of inches.

          • I do too – Neuheisel reinvented himself i.e. Leslie Nielson after ‘Airplane’ came out “All these years there was this comedian inside me that dying to come out and finally it did!”

He also gives pretty objective commentary then again he is a ‘dual’ grad UCLA under and USC grad

          • I gotta say I like his work on the PAC 12 network. And of course you can’t mention Rick without saying 50-00000000000. DAMN THAT NEVER GETS OLD!

  2. Wolfie, you are so right! But SC admin doesn’t care about the “regular fans” like SLO 3.0 and the other band wagon fans who didn’t actually attend the school, and I can’t really blame them. Let them sit outside drinking their Colt 45s!

  3. For the right price, you can experience almost anything now. Running out of the tunnel, bare-@$$ naked. Drinks with the Wolfman before the game. Nachos with fresh chips and actual cheese. Beef hot dogs made of beef. A men’s room trough that gleams like a silver chalice. Soon, hot-tubbing is expected to be available at the Coliseum. And donors will no doubt get that first.

  4. Shutting Scottie out of all USC’s athletic endeavors, in virtually all regards, is definitely not something worth keeping an eye on.

    • Aw, Jack, you come around here a fair amount, and I don’t think it’s to read the latest from the UCLA contingent. 🙂

      • I’m a USC fan so I show up at a USC site. We could be doing a lot better here, but there are some USC posters who do their best to shed some light and pretty good details on topics that Scottie refuses to research. It is what it is. Scottie has carved a niche as a daily fire starter, but it’s the USC fans who drive this. They are the INSIDE USC part. The Trolls have nowhere else to go and are easy to pick on. That’s the balance.

        • Jacky Blah, if you think you can do better, start your own SUCC Blog. Unfortunately for many of us JB, you’re a first class whiner, w/o peas.

          • You’ve got all the peas stuffed in that eight pound so-called brain of yours. Why don’t you redirect back to your men’s soccer, women’s softball fetish? You know, you’re comfort zone as a Troll.

          • You just continue to whine don’t Jacky Blah. If you don’t like what appears on this blog, why not start your own SUCC blog. In case you missed it Blah, Scott doesn’t read the blog comments. So, my question to you Jacky, is when do you plan to start your very own Jacky Wacky’s SUCC blog.

          • Both. Creepy guy. He thinks I would and should want to start a USC blog. Also, he actually believes Scottie never reads his own blog. uclaownszilch is fully obsessed with USC. Lives on his rival’s site. Wants our approval desperately. I own the weirdo. He follows me around like my puppy dog.

          • in this scenario, Jacky….I would recommend leasing or renting rather than owning. Just a suggestion.

  5. Gosh darn Scottie, I can’t wait for the homeless and destitute to regain their proper place at the front of the line. What is this world coming to?

    • Those who cannot see both sides of elite privilege suffer either from a shallow education, or a deep education absorbed at a shallow level.

P.S. This comment should not be interpreted as an endorsement for repetitive writing that doesn’t really elucidate the issues much at all.

    • Coriolanus – best character Shakespeare ever created “….I will not bow to the hoi polloi!”

        • Wouldn’t be my interpretation…but it did give you a chance to say “limousine liberal”.

  6. Since Trogan Fan reminded me that this is a USC blog, former Florida wide receiver commit Tristan Payton (three stars) will be visiting USC next week and he may be ready to commit…….BAM!

  7. On a more serious note, the young man that was killed by a lightning strike at Venice Beach yesterday was about to start SC in the fall. He had completed 2 years at Santa Monica College and was about to start school. Such a tragic loss for the family of a young man with a bright future.

At the end of the day folks…football ain’t life.

    • Probe he went to St. Brendan’s in Hancock Park for grammar school and attended Notre Dame HS in Sherman Oaks. I was having lunch at Pipers on Western just south of Beverly with an old friend when we ran into a grammar school classmate of the poor kid and her family – didn’t know what the soft but serious discussion was about until he revealed the ‘connection’ –

      • I was wrong about Santa Monica College…it was Santa Barbara City College. He was a friend of one of my daughter’s friends. My youngest daughter is also 20. I was within 2 miles of the lightning strike and it was very powerful…louder than an earthquake.

        • This young girl was with her – mother, grandmother and great grandmother – her brother was the poor boy’s best friend. My friend was close friends of this family and we happened to meet them as both of us entered the restaurant – my friend offered his condolences as this family was very close to the young man’s and as I stated my friend then made me understand the connection.

Photo of that home in Redondo Beach – looked like an RPG hit it

          • Yeah, definitely. And the car! Crazy stuff with no warning before it hit. Reminiscent of the surprise on MLK Day in 1994. Earthquake made a mess of a lot of stuff, including parts of my house. This was just so loud…like a bomb.

          • ruski…you great big show off…hanging out with a friend who is an acquaintance of a person, who once walked on the same street as you, wearing a shirt the same color that used to be your favorite, while visiting the same 7-11? WOW….what a bizarre coinky dink!
            “I’m a CREEP, I’m a winner!”
            fit Un!

          • You are a creep? You speak truth to troll.

Admitting is the first step. Just 11 to go.

  8. If you want to make $10, you can run out of the tunnel in Tommy Trojan’s mini skirt!
