USC Morning Buzz: Camp Approaching

HULL

USC players return for conditioning workouts today after a week off before training camp starts next week. In the meantime, here’s a picture of USC fullback Mike Hull against Stanford in 1966. In the background is offensive lineman Ron Yary, the only Outland Trophy winner in USC history.

  1. I was on the freshman team that made the trip to Stanford in 1968. Which was also the varsity’s following alternate year trip to Stanford. I remember back at that time up to 20,000 USC fans would make the “Bay Area Weekend Trip”. One can see the dense crowd in the back group from this picture. Many of the SC students would car pool or do what ever they had to make it to the Bay Area for that weekend game.

Not as many make the trip any more. With Stanford’s smaller stadium and as you say Scott, “Stanford charging $145. for nose bleed seats for this years USC game”. It has cut down the crowd making the trip in recent years. I will be their however come Sep 6th. I’ve got my plane ticket already.

  2. I remember making the trip years ago as a kid with my Trojan Uncle. Not all Trojies are bad!!! 🙂 I remember riding in the back of his Falcon wagon (can’t do that anymore). On the way back we had the UCLA-Oregon game on the radio. I fell asleep comfortably with the Bruins up 40-21. I woke up a little later with the Dan Fouts-Bobby Moore (aka Ahmad Rashad) Ducks scoring the winning touchdown in a crazy finish. The trip to Stanford…as either a Trojan or a Bruin..is a fun trip.
