Several players tell me USC’s new helmets look even more reflective in person than in this picture. “Like a red mirror,” one player said.

The grey face masks are like a chrome car bumper, the players said. The new helmets will not be used in training camp and worn first for the season-opener against Fresno State. Below is an example of a chrome face mask.

        • Yup….dude is dwelling on a typo made by a former top 50 recruit, WR Markeith Ambles, who is now entering his senior year at University Houston….the kid had academic issues, much to the amusement of TF….he had originally committed to Tennessee, but followed you know who to USC….

  3. I am probably in the minority, but I actually like this new look. It’s fresh,albeit a bit trendy, but it stays true to our traditional logo…….I don’t see it as a long term look, however….

    • I agree. But we all know Scottie is fishing for a story and trying to create controversy where none exists. At least he’s off the socks.

      • Scottie, aka the daily fire starter…Sadly, at this stage, that’s his only real function. The older photos? Nothing new there, except for some of the older coaching staffs, which I appreciated.

        • Thanks for addressing the elephant in the room. It is rare to see Scottie write an article for the Daily News; in fact, he has written only 4 articles in the last 3 weeks. I would think sports journalists would be required to write more stories than this. Great gig if you can get it.

    • And the UCLA uniforms are any better?…..Wedding Gown White?…..Knight Rider Black?….People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, Chuckie boy…. even YOU should know THAT…..

      • I actually like our (UCLA) . new away uniforms the solid white with the gold helmets. The navy ones were nice too as well as the traditional home uniform. Not a fan of the all black or the grey. However, winning is more important than the uniform.

        The SC helmet issue is a bit silly. Uniforms are updated all the time, including SC’s. Perhaps Scott is still using a 20 year old computer…without spell check apparently….but progress isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

    • The bruins are officially Oregon copycats. You used to have some of the best uniforms in the business. Now you pop out every so often looking like kitchen help or midnight auto supply. I can understand though. You don’t even have a modern football facility.

  8. Everybody wants to jazz up their uniforms. Different colors, stripes, helmets etc in a sense copying Oregon’s success. It seems that the players like the changes and it helps with recruiting. The only thing I find strange is when they totally change the colors on the uniform and helmet. What happens when the pressure is on and players fail to recognize teammates as quickly as they need to?

  9. They could be very cool. I like the chrome, a very TODAY look. Nothing wrong with that.

    They could be just 2014’s failed experiment. Cardinal and gold is still the gig. Great color combo. Have always liked it, especially when dirty.

    Won’t see that in South Bend anymore, not with their new artificial turf. Bummer. But you never could trust the Irish to keep the grass length down for the Trojans.

    • Like the helmet…not sure about facemask in grey. Monotone in the red would be nicer IMHO.

      • Crotch Boy, if you were a little smarter, your perceptions would be significantly more accurate. I know ucla’s lack of football tradition bothers you a lot. Try not to let it get to you. You’ve got a chance to finally win a conference championship this year. My prayers are with you.
