USC Morning Buzz: State Of Team

OFFENSIVE.LINEHere’s my look at where the team stands as Week 2 of training camp is underway.

“After one week of training camp, Sarkisian’s biggest issues are the offensive line and secondary. USC looks like it will have three linemen start the season-opener who never started a college game. That should worry Sarkisian and quarterback Cody Kessler.

“We need eight really good guys that can rotate through for our season to be really successful,” Sarkisian said. “We would love the luxury of 10 but eight is good enough so that’s what we’re trying to get.”

  1. Interesting that a state of the team today has a reference to Kiffin.

The “eight really good guys” that Scottie quotes is obviously a comment by Sark referring to the OL, though that isn’t clear from the context.

“The first six opponents all had winning records last season. so answers should come quickly.” – and I thought Scottie said USC had a weak schedule?

    • Scottie seems to have cooled his heels about the schedule since the Alabama game was announced….

  2. “With probation over and 18 starters back, new USC coach Steve Sarkisian is expected to enjoy a successful season.” …….so Wolfman….how about clarifying and quantifying this statement….is this YOUR expectation, or are you just speaking for others?…..

  3. “We need eight really good guys” on O-Line……well, Siete, so far you have MAYBE TWO……and you are thinking about starting a 400lb true freshman at guard???

    Uh-OH! Spaghetti-O!!!!

  4. Scottie fails to mention the most important state of the team – the ability to offer scholarship #16.

  5. Stanford’s D-Line will kill SC’s inexperience up front. And, if the O-line doesn’t come together/avoid injury, UCLA’s D-line is better than Stanford’s. A first quarter of three-and-outs and Sark’s up-tempo won’t amount to much. I hope I am wrong. One or two big plays early against Stanford to sustain drives and it is a different game. If not, hopefully the D will keep it close.

    • That’s an Amen Brother. SUCC’s O-Line is nothing but cookies and milk.

  6. Didn’t Sark/SUCC recently declare there will be no excuses for the 2014 SUCC FB program? Yet today, Scott quotes Sark/SUCC making excuses for SUCC abridged O-Line. I think it’s symbolic of SUCC’s O-Line problems that D. Mama’s jersey # is 51.

SUCCster’s, even though SUCC plays a cupcake schedule, 7 – 5 is going to be a stretch. So have your excuses handy, you’re going to need them in spite of Sark/SUCC’s no excuses declaration.

    • Suckee prefers the coach not answer questions. Responses to questions are not excuses. They are explanations.

He didn’t say “sanctions.” He referred to the quality of lineman (and his worry that there are not enough of them.). Isn’t that the point you’ve been incoherently trying to make?

So are you making excuses too?

Or should coaches not actually talk about the quality of areas of his team?

      Read more. Post less.

        • Do you even read the post to which you are referring?

          Let’s see just how much.

What should Sark have said to express his concern that his O Line is not as deep as he thinks it should be? Give us the line that Coach Suckee would have said to get that point across but is not, in Suckee World, an excuse.

          • He just keeps on hating on, with the same lame refrain…. “excuses, excuses, excuses”….and the ever popular “yawn” when he’s stumped for a comeback….

          • No clue what Sark/SUCC should have said, but SUCCmuster, you have an uncanny ability to put your silly words and opinions in other people’s mouths; so give us your no excuse Sark/SUCC reason/answer to the FB question: Why is SUCC’s O-Line nothing more than milk and cookies..

    • It might be difficult to go “up tempo” with a 400lb offensive guard. They might want to change his number to 911. First, he is big enough to need 3 digits and second they may need a reminder of who to call when he goes down gasping for air. I doubt Mama will see much action given his lack of fitness. Perhaps he can become the new “Refrigerator Perry” in the goal line offense as a running/walking back. In his case, he could become “Sub-Zero” to borrow from the film “Running Man”.

      • The worst part is that he resembles your mother! Go back to your boyfriends is westwood, FUGLY bRUIN.

        • First off…my mother is HOT! Secondly, I am so sorry you get upset about your Mama. He is getting so big he is now up to a 10 star recruit.

          • Must make you feel pretty good about yourself when you make fun of an 18 year old kid.

          • It’s a multi-million dollar industry built on the backs of 18 year old kids. People will pay $1500 to run out of the tunnel with 18 year old kids. We, as grown adults, comment on the recruiting of 18 year old kids, how they play on the field and if they flunk out of school. It may be sad, but that is reality.

          • What is even more sad are you bRUIN trolls that spend every waking moment on a rival’s blog putting down a bunch of kids. Get a job and more importantly, get a life. Loser FUGLY bRUINS.

          • Does this mean FONtolose, you’re going to take your ball and personal attacks and go home? Go riddance.

          • Why is SUCC hiding Mama. Ju-Ju and AJ are receiving max recog, but Mama’s progress receives no ink. Why, party guy?

          • You know, Owns…. I believe that you and I are both old enough to remember when freshmen in college didn’t play….the same as it was in the pro’s, up until recently…..sitting for a year does a player a lot of good, IMO…by my count, there 55 players on our current roster who have taken a redshirt…..and I believe that’s a good thing for their long term development and confidence, but you may feel differently….

        • Typical SUCCster, resorting to personal attacks instead of making a rational FB argument/opinion.

          • Here’s a football question for you, when will the baby blue bRUINS catch up to USC in the head to head wins category?

          • 20 years. Now on question Fontolose, when will the SUCC Man’s Basketball program win as many NCAA Championships as UCLA? Take you time, you’ll need a calculator.

          • Maybe sooner than you’d hope for, will SC beat The Mighty Bruins this year is the more important question?

          • Or the better question, when will SC even play UCLA close again? Last two years have been pathetic on the SC side, and this year’s only going to be worse!

          • We may NEVER play UCLA close again…. their are top 10 team, favored to win the Pac-12 South, with a Heisman Trophy candidate at QB and a hot shot for their head coach…. they are well positioned to win it all this year……BTW most schools would LOVE to have a “pathetic” 10 win season, which USC had last season……….

      • The people who will be gasping for air are the defenders who have to run AROUND this guy!…….he lives in multiple zip codes!

        • Morning Bleauz! I think FightON needs to lighten up a little. 385lbs might be a bit heavy to play up tempo….guess facts get him a bit torn up. You are right…he IS is own zip code. Probably hasn’t seen his man plumbing since he was 5. Then he is off on his mission to somewhere. I do see the missionaries riding their bikes around town so maybe he will drop a few in his 2 years away…if they can find a bike to hold him.

  7. Scotty has pissed into the bucket to many times. He finally writes a column with some analysis and gets creamed by the crowed. Even the honks are calling him out. This is a classic moment in his career.

    • I hope that you speaking figuratively and not literally with your Bucket remark…. LOL
