USC Training Camp Thought No. 2

"0805_SPO_LDN-L-USC-PRACTICE-15AH"

Freshman Adoree Jackson’s spent time during training camp working on his catching technique to cut down on dropped passes. That leads to a natural question over how Jackson will ever be at his best receiving if he spends only a portion of his time on offense. And what that does to his defensive improvement?

    • Of course Scott’s correct that any player will do better to specialize. The efficiency of division of labor was explained by Adam Smith in 1776, if not by someone else earlier in history. But Scott misses a significant point. JACKSON wants to do that. Jackson is a 5-star. You want 5-stars? You don’t push them around like bendee toys, or you won’t have 5-stars. USC’s interests have to meet the players’ interests halfway, and most especially the truly exceptional recruits/players. Sark verbal approval in the press is just making a virtue of necessity.

I have a better question for Sark. Why isn’t USC using the GPS monitoring devices that have now been put into use at (gasp) UCLA?

FSU used them last year as a way to isolate weak points in their players’ bodies and conditioning, as well as to assess the need for recuperation time, cutting back on reps, etc. FSU’s Coach Fisher thought they were extremely useful to prevent injuries and get players to their physical peak on Saturday.

Alabama implemented them in the Spring.

And now USC has fallen behind not only championship-level programs, but THE BRUINS? FOR SHAME, SARK! What can you be thinking? Et tu, Haden?

And the new conditioning methods developed for Stanford and the 49ers? What’s USC’s position on those techniques?

Sark talked up his injury prevention program at Media Day. Where’s the beef, Sark?

Haden made a “dramatic” announcement of 4-year scholarships–except that USC always did that anyway. Shouldn’t his real announcement have been that USC always did that, and he wanted to formalize it, to create public discourse, in order to motivate change in programs that had not done it before?

So, are we witnessing at USC another example of the triumph of sound bite over substance?

Is USC going to be a lagger, not a leader?

      How disappointing…

      • Nicely done Ben. SUCC is on a similar trajectory that afflicted England’s Henry the Second after rashly fastening the See of Canterbury to Becket.

  1. who cares, wolfman? the important thing is that the trOXans try to copy what the Bruins did with Jack…just like they copied the helmets from the Rudys, the offense from the Huskies and the Tents from…..the Bedouins??

    • And UCLA copied USC by hiring an old, white, washed up, former NFL head coach to lead them back to glory……Big deal….

      • Except their guy is a hot head. It’s only a matter of time before he snaps!

        • I agree…. he seems to always have a scowl on his face like John Gruden, except without the personality…….

          • Some were…….and Scottie was begging for Chris Petersen and James Franklin….Heck, Wolfman was willing to pay Dave Shaw ANYTHING to come South….

          • But Haden settled for a Kiffy retread – Sark, for which U-Dub charged SUCC a hefty fee and then used the SUCC $$$ to hire Chris Peterson who turned down a SUCC offer flat. LOL.

          • So as far as bleauz is concerned, the last 2 SUCC losses to UCLA are just the usual dirt under SUCC moldy rug.

          • I’m not the one with the flamboyant user name…. enjoy it while it lasts…..I’m sure that you will….it’s all you have to live for…

          • The only moldy rug around here is the one that’s on top of your head…. perhaps you can loan it to Scottie…..I noticed that he seems to be getting a bit too much sun up there lately…..

    • Why would USC want to copy Ugly? Ugly has how many MNCs? Ugly has how many Pac12 championships? USC is still limited with players, so two ways are only logical. Kiffin didin’t do it but Sark sees the benefit. It has NOTHING to do with “copying.”

I see your new “thing” Charlie is the #whatever. Trying to be clever? FAIL.

How’s your Willie Wonka by the way?

    • Just one big difference between Jack and AJ – AJ’s dropping SUCC bubble passes.

    • You mean we want to start kicking our players out of practice? One of your best Trollisms ever Crotch Boy.

  2. If USC “didn’t” want to follow along “loser” guide lines then the only thing “necessary” to do so would be [not following loser programs] !

Which is “exactly” what Trojan Football is well known “not” to do !!

And that’s why USC is known as a Championship Team !!!

Other “Wannabe” programs will always follow their own stupidity…

    WinOn

  3. Knock yourself out thermometer. Whine me a river. Help help mommy, Own’s picks on me ’cause I’m a loser.
