John Vella (75) was an All-American offensive lineman (who also played defense) in 1971 and a second-round pick in the NFL draft. He played with the Oakland Raiders from 1972-79 and a member of the Raiders team that won Super Bowl XI.

A great guy truly was and is – knew him personally – self-deprecating, never full of himself, never a bully as others were – a great sense of humor and a remarkably gifted businessman after he left the Raiders.
His smile in that rainy game against Notre Dame in 1970 made up for a dismal season as the team crushed the Irish – singlehandedly John’s best and also his favorite game.
