USC In Holiday Bowl?

Bowl guru Jerry Palm projects USC playing Iowa in the Holiday Bowl. Somehow I do not think many would be satisfied with that season-ending game. Here’s Palm’s picks.

  1. I could care less. We will beat UCLA this year. Any of the UCLA trolls want to take that bet? You’d have to disclose your real name and identity so I could collect or pay up?

    • anni nimus and Safer in Westwood are willing to put their money where their mouth is…….at least they were with me….

      • I was one pitch away from $9K Game 5 ALCS – Dave Henderson and Donnie Moore – best $700 I ever lost – ‘plus jamais’!

        • UGH…. thanks for the reminder…. as a lifelong Angels fan, that was our lowest hour……and, coincidentally, the Halos are playing the Bosox tonight……

          • Bleauz – as I said best $7 c’s I ever lost – never again – everyone blamed Moore – no it was Mauch pulling Witt putting in Lucas to face Gedman – 1st pitch Lucas hits Gedman – then DeCinces swinging on the 1st pitch in the bottom of the 10th and popping out – a real tragedy but again – no more gambling for me.

          • We’re in complete agreement…. Mauch always had a tendency to over manage games…..Pulling Witt was a bonehead move….and DeCinces popping out on the 1st pitch definitely hurt big time…..

          • Go Dodgers! And by the way, feel free to visit Wang’s blog as he is posting his twitter feed about the events in Ferguson, Mo. He makes Scotty look better every day!

          • Every time I sneak over to Wang’s blog, it’s like a morgue…….it’s very confusing with the lack of activity and distracting with the posting of his Twitter feed…… one would never know that UCLA were ranked 7th in college football just by looking at the number of comments per blog post….

          • That’s because Jack Wang is a horrible steward of that blog. Back in the Brian Dohn days, that blog was very active.

          • You have no argument from me, VB…….hopefully Wang will pick up his game, once the season starts….. but I doubt it…

    • i’m game, how does a c-note sound, will you be at the game like USuCk Bleauz? i wanna see your face as you pay up!

    • UCLA will win big again this year. You are dreaming if you think your no-depth team can hang with a UCLA squad that goes 3 deep on most positions. Sorry. Truth hurts.

      • I realize that’s it’s completely obvious, but staying healthy will be a key factor to the success or demise of both USC and UCLA, especially along both sides of the line and at QB, and that’s where UCLA has the edge, purely in numbers and experience……our talented young players have the potential, but they need to develop as quickly, if not quicker, than UCLA’s in order to be competitive this year…..and I would not underestimate Drevno…….

      • I remember when bill plashcke wrote the article Bruin Town when ucla was #1 and USC was 1-5 first year under Pete. I took a bet straight up and it was a good thing. USC won 27-0. Point is that they lace up and play the game for a reason. Im a fan, your just envious…

        • Yeah, I’m envious because USC has a higher ranking, a better coach, a better quarterback, and a more depth at every position… oh wait… It’s the reverse.

          • Bleauz, you are the first rational trojan I have met in a long time. You aren’t blinded by the Pete Carroll era.

          • VB…. you seem to have your finger on the pulse of UCLA football, more so than Wang, which isn’t hard to do…. have you heard anything more about where Kylie Fitts is heading?… the latest rumor now is Notre Dame?…….

          • Unfortunately, the only thing I have heard re: Fitts is that he was most likely headed to a smaller school like Fresno State or Boise State.

          • He had a golden opportunity to play against elite competition in the Pac-12 and be coached by a defensive minded head coach with NFL experience…..what more could he want?…..

          • I dont feel the need to troll ucla websites making inflammatory comments. There is reason you covet USC’s success. Been a really long time for a RB berth for you guys right? Just sayin’

  2. Why would any Trojan fan be happy with the Holiday Bowl Wolfie? Are you nuts? Only Alabama leads USC as a bowl team in terms of appearances and overall wins. We’re obviously hoping for better.

But if that doesn’t happen, a nice Holiday Bowl win over Iowa would be fine. We’re not ready as a program for the playoff yet. We’re not a top four team now. But we will be.

  3. Holiday Bowl would mean the 3rd best record in the conference, a step up from last year. Winning the South seems doable, not easy but possible. Winning the division would be a great start. After that is gravy. It will be fun to see what Sark does with these guys after all the crap of last season.

    • Sark is going to do with USC what he did with Washington. You will win 8-9 games per year, but will never be in the Final Four conversation. Especially not with Jim Mora across down building a superpower.

  4. Palm knows something none of the rest of us know – ‘If’ any Pac-12 team wins out there is no way that team won’t be in the final four. Stoops doesn’t do well (save last year) in post-season games and
the other four conferences will be playing a CG game while OK plays a scheduled OK St. on the 6th December

This is the most competitive the Pac-12 has been since time immemorial – the conference is that good.

  5. Guest on Cowherd about an hour ago made note of the very daunting schedule for UCLA (and it is) but also noted the front line skill of USC’s squad – OH St. has potentially lost their starting QB – the only tough game they have on the road is MI St..
SEC will be in the final four – problem for Pac-12 is beating each other up which is more of a reason for their place in the final 4. Unlike the Pac-12 playing 9 in conference games,
Consider: South Carolina avoids: LSU, AL, AR, MS and MS St.
Same for GA – they avoid: AL, LSU, MS, MS St. and TX A&M – it’s once again rigged for SEC.
