Former USC coach John Robinson is selling six USC rings that commemorate national championships or Rose Bowl victories. There are national championship rings from 1972 and 1975 along with Rose Bowl rings from 1977, 1979, 1980 and 1995.
The rings will be auctioned off by SCP Auctions of Laguna Niguel with the deadline this weekend. You can check out the rings here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
I hope it’s not because John needs the money, but rather will be donating the proceeds to charity.
But in these tough economic times, who knows.
This situation probably has an economic genesis. I hope the Trojan University family steps up and makes Robinson’s retirement dignified and sustainable. I wonder if John Madden knows of Robinson’s situation?
sad to see,but it may also be he wants someone else to enjoy them;don’t see how it could be for monetary reasons considering all the money he earned all those years,unless some health reason /costs involved.I always admired him and the public life he lead.

After the reception I received on this blog during my correspondence with Professor Sarawut Sanchez, I was reluctant to show my face here ever again. But I have been told that this blog is frequented by a booster – a wise, honourable booster, a gentleman and a scholar, a man who is well-versed in the official history of USC, yet also knows “where the bodies are buried,” as you Yanks say. Wise booster, if you read this, I must consult you regarding topics including but not limited to: the 1928 Rose Bowl, USC football players of the same era, and the possibility that the USC campus is haunted by the ghost of a redheaded young lady named Clara. (At first I thought that she might be a time-traveler, but now I am absolutely certain that she is a ghost).

The fact that you even know who Nancy Drew is is rather disturbing…….
i was never a fan of Robo as a Coach, especially when he was with the Rams….but i always thought he was a stand up guy… when things fell apart he never made excuses (like some people who rhyme with “Biff” “Faden” and “Markhissian”).
i think the reason the wolfman did not pry into Robo’s personal affairs is, because it’s nobody’s business. this has nothing to do with sports. whether the money is for him, his kids or charity, Robo does not have to answer to anyone’s idle curiosity. i do recall an article mentioning Robo does a lot of work with Charity foundations, so if i had to GUESS, that is the likely purpose of the sale, although i doubt he would publicize this.

Scottie sure got into Kiffin’s “personal affairs” when he was selling his home…..Scottie also likes to dwell on how much money people make (coaches, Larry Scott, Haden, etc.).. besides, Wolfman was the one who brought this up in the first place…. is it too much to ask that he follow through on this story?
