“I chose offense,” he said. “He gave me the choice and I chose offense.”

  1. “Well, Myles Jack does it, and UCLA’s really good now, so we want to do that too, particularly if we want to win more than 7 games, which is Coach Siete’s goal this season.”

    • Most pundits are not longer predicting that UCLA will win the PAC-12 South. Insiders, while acknowledging the quality of a few, say the team is flat and might well begin the season at 2 – 2, run their record to 4 – 4, and finish at 6 – 6. Sounds like you’ll be scrambling to be bowl eligible you little snot.

  2. Wise booster, I have been told to signal you with this password: “Newport’s Own Booster Supreme.” I pray that you see this, for the ghostly Clara hounds me ceaselessly! That night in the fog, I took her for a madwoman raving about her plans to attend the 1928 Rose Bowl in just a few weeks’ time. I turned to leave, but she followed, insisting that I had to give the ring to Morley before the Rose Bowl game. As I hurried north, the fog began to lift; I could see the buildings of the campus again, and I hoped that Clara herself would vanish with the strange mist, but no – she only grew more suspicious of my intentions.

“Say, did you get that ring from Marion?” “Who is she?” I asked. Haughtily she replied, “Marion ain’t a she, he’s a he. And I saw him just today in front of the Old College building, holding the ring for Morley. They used to be teammates, you know.” I told her that I don’t know Morley or Marion and that this is not 1927, but she wouldn’t listen. “Point is,” she said, “you need to get that ring to Morley before USC wins the Rose Bowl.” I ask you, honourable booster, how do I return this ring to Morley, whoever he may be, before USC plays in a Rose Bowl game that took place in 1928? Is the campus haunted by Morley’s ghost as well?

    • Most enjoyable reading! Myles Jack is a very good football player and a fine young man. whose team is flat and not the supporting cast required to accomplish such greatness that it inspires great writing 80+ years later.
