KESSLER.BC.2“When we were up 17-6, we should have put the gas on and kept going. Some of the guys let up or got settled.

  1. Another SUCC should’d, could’d, would’d excuse. Bottom line SUCCster’s, BC punked SUCC.

    • I apologize to you too. I thought the lame little bruins were playing ASU on Saturday, I was planning to tune-in and watch the Sun Devils roll. I did know you were playing ASU, but like the rest of Los Angeles I don’t really pay very close attention to your football team. Your first loss of the year is coming soon.

  2. Dude what is this SUCC stuff? I know you can get credit at the State run schools for creative spelling, but this doesn’t even make sense. As for taking the foot off the gas that was Kiffin’s trick too. You never let up in football

    • What’s with “Dude” krapp. That’s so Huntington Beach, circa 1974. After while, crocodile.

      • The waves at the Cliffs were great that year. One winter day it was raining, so my girl and I spent the afternoon in the back of my station wagon. I am telling you this because it was way before your time. Which makes me wonder, will you ever have a time? Doubtful, your a dysfunctional emotionally insecure low-life addicted to a rival’s blog. You definitely will never have a time. See you later, Alligator. P.S. You get punked on Thursday by ASU.

        • What a quote – “You’re a dysfunctional emotionally insecure low-life addicted to a rival’s blog.”

I’ve never read a better description of uclaownszilch in my life. Congrats. You deserve a 20.

  3. Hey RENTS you’re gonna get punked on Saturday night by ASU. HAWR-HAWR. You and the little bruins deserve each other.

    • Popping off about a 12th ranked, undefeated team when your own school just got clown-stomped by a 17-point underdog = Empty words full of hot air.

      • Hey Poopy-Doopy, get over it. I went to the game, yes I was disappointed, but you should have seen the look on the faces of the young kids that got $20’s from Mr. Bill. Spread a little sunshine for a change, or better yet – leave a note.

    • This is the former half-wit Stanford 44 in Mr. Bill disguise. If I remember my Mr. Bill history correctly, Mr. Bill is always destroyed in the end. Mr. Bill might also be a gofer for the Hot Box Burrito distributor, Lee and his stinking Associates.

      • I got the nickname, “Mr. Bill,” after graduating from SC, hooking up with some alumni investors and making it big. I always give the valet a $20 for protecting my ride and I tell them to stay in school and work hard, so my friends starting calling me Mr. $20 Bill. Then it got shortened to Mr. Bill. Now that we have that settled, I want back that last $20 I gave you and don’t forget, stay in school and work hard. Mr. Bill will enjoy seeing your jv football team take loss #1 of 6. FIGHT ON!

    • Punked on Sat? Just what game are these two lovebirds playing? Old Maid? Whist? Bunco (with the permission from Violet of course) ? Perhaps Vi can officiate along with Sally and punish the little snots from both schools.

      • I am deeply sorry that I did not know the jv bruins were playing ASU on a Thursday night. Like the rest of LA, I don’t follow them very closely. However I will enjoy watching the jv bruins get punked on Thursday night. Please accept my apology for any inconvenience I may have caused you. Are we good?

  4. I don’t think the OL has it in em’ to keep going. OL is the problem. When you get pushed around up front, you cant really pass or run.

    • Ted,

Odd that USC’s offense started pretty well against both Stanford and BC, then
became very ineffective. Am I to believe that, in both games, the OL
      suddenly stopped trying?

Cut the nonsense. The opponents made adjustments, and Sark did not!

Not that you’re wrong in your theoretical point. Several articles highlighted OL errors vs. Stanford. It was and is a problem, and it’s not going away. That is also true of a defense that is missing Bigelow, Ruffin, Shaw, and Dawson.

But these problems require changes in approach to make the best of them. Not rush, rush, incompletion under pressure (or completion short of a first down), punt. Not lots of defensive formations, which add to complexity.

Sark and Wilcox had reason to know the problems after Stanford. Clearly, each did not do enough to fix and/or compensate–before the game started, or during the game. .

That was not just a loss at BC. It was a collapse. To my instincts, coaching must be a major factor when there is a collapse like that.

      • Not much adjustment to make. OL just not fit enough to play a whole game. They stop firing out on the snap. The line of scrimmage was being moved a yard backwards on every snap. Damian Mama for one needs to lose some lbs if he is gonna play a whole game.

        • I find unlikely the proposition that the entire OL is out of shape. I have yet to hear one comment by a coach or player to that effect. Why is that?

If you’re correct, Haden should fire Sark right now. That would mean Sark failed even to implement a proper fitness program. Again, that’s not what the players have said. Mama may be a special case; your comment is not the first I have seen.

I think the freshmen starters are going to get beat a lot, and confused a lot. Maybe Banner as well, although I haven’t seen him called out in the same way by writers/analysts who link to video.

However, to say that no adjustment will be helpful strikes me as premature, and an apology for poor coaching. There are always adjustments to be tried. Cut down on the number of blocking schemes, and practice each more. Keep more blockers in. Start a tackle at TE. Stop running so much on fist down. Use more roll outs. Use more screen passes. Design a passing game built on quick releases. Perhaps most important, go out of your way to become less predictable.

Of course, other teams will adjust to whatever your try. Ask youself how they will adjust. What plays will they be vulnerable to, if they do adjust in that way? Teach your players those plays.

Ted, I thought that it was silly to read the Stanford victory as evidence that 2014 would be a banner year. I agree with you that the OL is the problem on offense.

And the defense? Google “Travers” and read his article about USC’s approach to the read option. Players didn’t follow the usual prescriptions. Why? Because they are out of shape?

Somewhere along the line, coaches have not been keeping it simple enough, teaching enough, making sure it’s understood, repeating enough, or preparing to adjust enough.

It will take a lot more that what has been said so far by Sark to convince me otherwise. Sark and Wilcox have screwed up. I’m OK with that. But now they have to be proactive.

But you can’t just throw up your hands.

          • Hey wait a minute… didn’t Sark hire the O-line coach away from Harbaugh & the 49’ers? This guy should be pretty good.

  5. Even great pro teams don’t win them all. There is such a concept as ‘simply having a bad game.’

Besides, it was not a league game so it did not hurt SC’s conference standing.

And let us give Sark a bit more slack. It took Carroll 3 years to build SC in his image; SUCLA’s “Lesser” is doing fine in year-3. John McKay took 3 years.

I have said all along that 2016 is the “payoff” year for the Trojans, so there might be a bit of pain along the way.

    • Pete Carroll went 11-2 in his second year and killed Iowa in the Orange Bowl. It did not take him three years. No sense pretending Sark is gonna come close to Carroll, who was a defensive coach and a smarter guy. Sark’s strictly an offensive dude who is obsessed with calling plays, like Kiffin.

I haven’t given up on Sark but last week’s game showed some terrible signs, you must admit. Sark will have to change some things and probably some assistants, or “Seven Win Steve” will just keep reinforcing his rep. His statements since the loss have been silly. I know he can’t tell the truth, but he sounds like he’s already had to say these things all too often.

      • Jack, three years of 15 recruits. It’s not quite the same. Plus, Sark is in his first year.

        We agree on two things.

        1. Sark’s post-game statements insult our intelligence.

        2. Sark will have to grow and change, and do so quickly. If he’s confused about what to do, he better take some of his $3 million and consult with the best football minds out there. Slow learners get eaten at USC.

        • But this same group beat Stanford. So we know they have the talent to beat BC. Easily. The coaches dropped the ball. Inconsistency haunts average coaches and Sark has always been inconsistent, hence his nickname. I don’t see how anyone avoids that conclusion. Were he a better coach, we’d have all wanted him when he was named. But he was never great at UW. After watching last week’s game, I can see why.

I hope Sark takes your advice and either brings in an OC or delegates more re play calling. Maybe then he won’t be calling Haden to some speak with the refs.

He’s obviously gotta do something. And he really lacks talent at LB. So I don’t know how he fixes that. Some guys he’s playing just aren’t fast enough. Tough to hide that.

But the problem with these guys is they often can’t make the hard choices. They whittle away, fix a little, but not enough. So many examples.

Sark’s job just became a lot harder. But at least he can’t fake it anymore. He’s shown some real weakness. We’ll see if he can fix it and if he has the guts to really change.

          • Most evenly matched teams which lose contribute mightily to their own losses, dolt. You new to the game or do you just not pay attention? The game’s about scoring, not yardage. Ask a Cavalier.

Stanford lost because their FG kicker stunk, they lack a power running game, their coach is too conservative, they let Buck Allen rush for over 150, they were horrible in the red zone, USC caused a fumble at a bad time and USC has clutch FG kicker. If Stanford were a completely different team in fantasy land, they would have won. But for the second year in a row, USC had Stanford’s number and won late. Actually, Stanford’s been much tougher for us over the last decade than the little gutties, who have only won three of the last 15 games against USC.

When Stanford beats the little gutties this year (seven in a row), you’ll undoubtedly say ucla beat itself, even though it’ll be because Stanford hammers you, like always.

You have some big losses coming up Troll. Since you feel the constant need to post on a USC site, I look forward to insulting you and your fellow Bridesmaid U wimps frequently as you attempt to rack up 5,000 posts.

          • Why aren’t you still fighting with uclaownszilch, moron. He called you a “smelly busy body,” just a few minutes ago.

I have to say, I agree. You’re also a real weirdo, typical of the Trolls who come over here to “gloat”, as you call it, every day.

          • Even your fellow Trolls think you’re a “smelly busy body.” You do tend to stink up the joint.

            Don’t thank me. Thank uclaownszilch.

          • As far as I’m concerned you’re scum, a common turd. If you had a brain, you’d stop reading my posts. Absent the intelligence to do that, you’re screwed chump. So get used to me. I like kicking you around wimp.

          • If you had a brain, you’d stop reading my posts.

If you had a brain — or any dignity at all — you wouldn’t write them.

You’re like Joe Blow, but without the wit or charm.

          • I love writing to piss you off Troll, so why stop? Duh. Here’s some wit, charm and dignity for you.

Go have a big bowl of dog crap and say a prayer for Bridesmaid U’s annually mediocre team. Your losses are coming scumbag.

          • Actually, I would have liked for Sark to have summoned PH to the field. Then, in Pat’s most conciliatory and condescending tone softly coo some legalese into the ear of the Sark, “Pass you jackass!”

          • Did you google “Travers” and read that article about the defense vs. BC? It has video links. He explains several plays nicely. I think you’d enjoy reading it.

The writer saw a complete breakdown in normal strategy against read option. It requires a very rigid discipline. One of his inferences that that USC’s players may be used to getting by on athleticism more than correct technique.

I think that Haden’s theory with Sark was that he could do well if he had the best talent.

I think we’ll know much more after Oregon State, ASU, and AZ.

If he shows as badly as you predict, Haden should probably look for his own replacement, and let someone else deal with it.

    • So SC is fine settling for conference wins mow? Don’t tell me times haven’t changed! Lose on!

      • I thought the game was this Saturday, but like the rest of LA I don’t really follow the jv little bruins very closely. Looking forward to seeing you lose your first game of the season, counting toward six.

    • John, Sark and Wilcox both screwed up. Read some specific video commentary (Travers was one writer. There are several. As I said above, I’m OK with that.

But now they need to get proactive, and show that they know what they’re doing.

  6. QB blaming his OL and accusing other players of giving less than 100% = Low morale, and a coach who doesn’t know how to lead through adversity

    • I apologize I thought the jv bruins were playing ASU this Saturday. Like the rest of Los Angeles I don’t follow them very closely. ASU 31 little bruins 15.

      • It’s “Clown College” Safer, sheesh!! Bill, you missed your chance on setting him straight – but keep fighting the good fight in here!!

  7. This is pathetic… If Kessler is going to say this as an excuse, then he needs to name names or he shouldn’t say anything. I saw or more like winced at the game and couldn’t believe this was the same team I saw last week.

    • David, this quote is out of context. Kessler has taken TOO MUCH responsibility for what happened.

Rush, rush, 3rd and long, heavy pressure and failed conversion, punt. Over and over.

Two freshmen and a new starter on the OL. USC passed when it was clear they had to pass. Not once, but on every possession.

Does Kessler have Sark’s encouragement to freely change the play if he doesn’t like the look of things? Does the all-22 show that Kessler missed lots of opportunities to throw quicker? If so, maybe Kessler was a big part of the problem. Other than that, he was taking direction from his coach, who just didn’t do so well that day.

      • Ben, of course your right… I just don’t want the team to start pointing fingers and understand this is actually a rebuilding year. This is not to say, they shouldn’t try to make adjustments and hang tough through the 4th quarter. When the offense scored its 21st point and there was like 3-minutes left, I thought, man if the defense can only hold on for a 3 & out, give us the last minute opportunity to win the game. And the defense just gave the BC QB all the running room he could ask for, it was just pathetic.
