USC Morning Buzz: Did Trojans Suffer Stanford Hangover?

SARK.BC

Did USC suffer a letdown last week or not? Coach Steve Sarkisian said practices were great last week and wants to fix execution issues during the bye week. Safety Su’a Cravens said there was a letdown.

“We let the glamor of being in the top 10 get to us and that didn’t last very long,” Cravens said. “The whole week we were off. We were lackadaisical and a little bit too nonchalant. We overlook (Boston College).”

  1. Jeez, does Sark even know his own team? Just like Kiffin, got his head so buried in play calls he can’t even see his own team.

This isn’t going to end up well.

    • I believe its a matter of taking a more professional approach to every game. It was immature to take BC lightly and spend the whole week gloating over beating Stanford and a top 10 ranking. College football isnt like the NFL where you can get to the Super Bowl with 2 or 3 losses and a strong finish. A team has to bring the full load every week even vs the weaker teams. On any given Sat on the road a young inexperienced team can have their lunch money taken.

  2. That’s strange. And here all along I thought SC lost because of clever BC misdirection runs and a shifty running quarterback.

    • Tyler I believe is an underrated QB. After reviewing highlights of the game. He is very fast and shifty. He handles the Option almost as well as Mariota from Oregon.

    • LMAO !! Exactly. And over analyzing Coaches concern me, because it’s a sign of lack of knowledge and weakness.

    • The Boston Massacre was sweet wasn’t it – SUCC Greyhounds chasing the wrong rabbit.

  3. Who cares? The players were out of position and weren’t executing. How do u define a football hangover? They were outplayed and outcoached, is that because of a hangover?

It doesn’t matter what you consider it, it just needs to be fixed.

  4. I’ve been saying what Cravens just confirmed. That the team was still hung over from the Stanford Celebration. That they took BC too light after the Eagles got worked by Pitt the prior week.

After reviewing higlights i could see the body language of our guys as if they didnt want to even be there. No pursuit on defense. No where near the intensity that we saw at Stanford. There were miss alignments, missed assignments, and missed tackles.

I have to place a good parf of this on the Staff. USC has seem to have done that in recent years. Losing to teams that they should. Many times it has come to haunt them at seasons end in the rankings.

  5. Just like I said all last week….a classic TRAP GAME!!

I do find it amusing that, in a fitting reversal, Cravens threw the coaching staff under the bus this time!!

    How does it feel, Siete??

  6. UCLA will know exactly what it feels like to be run over by a bus on Saturday night. Barely beating three inferior opponents by an average of 6 points is laughable. ASU 38 UCLA 18.

      • Nothing quite as dumb as a Sun Devil with their over 90% acceptance rate of students.

First of all, Devil Boy, the game is next Thursday night. So take a look at your schedule. Second, you guys have played New Mexico, Weber State and Colorado and will not have your QB against UCLA. You may still win, but nothing quite like a trash talker with little information.

          • Owns…there is a big difference between SC and ASU. I am a diehard Bruin but I do have a certain amount of respect for SC. SC has become a top-notch school. One need only look at the rankings to see that. Yes, SC people can be arrogant and that can be annoying. But at least they have a reason to be arrogant. ASU doesn’t.

On the other hand, you have ASU. 2 years ago when researching colleges for my daughter, we found that Stanford had about an 8% acceptance rate and ASU about 93%. So, it was actually easier to get into Stanford than it was to be rejected by ASU.

Over the years, SC has been able to accept certain athletes into their program academically that could not be accepted into UCLA. It is something every UCLA coach has tried to change. However, there were other kids that even SC could not admit. Most of them ended up at ASU. And yet, ASU is traditionally mediocre athletically and weak academically and still they brag. Amazing. I hope the Bruins and the Trojans hammer them.

          • agree, that was a clever observation. ASU of course is also the nation’s most notorious party school.

i heard Kelly the very effective ASU QB is a no-go for Thurs…..and QUITE HONESTLY i’d like to see Lil’ Neu vs the ASU backup!!!

take a knee Hundley!! (just one more week)

          • oh, how Vontaze was in the Pious Passer’s head!!!

nest to Clubber Lang in Rocky III, no one ever got into someone’s head like Vontaze got into the Pious one’s noggin!!

          • I think you should to go to the whip more often, and I basically agree with 99.9% of your thread.

However, Proby, I want Az. and Az St. to kick SUCC’s booty. Rooting for SUCC like rooting for Putin.

  7. What a silly question. USC just got their fannies beat by a bunch of 3-star athletes who were trampled by Pitt the previous week, Every player on the team knew this was a so-called “trap game.”

What we didn’t count on was that the USC coaches didn’t understand this was a trap game. Sark and his staff thought USC was going to kill BC based on what they saw on tape. This is all on the coaches.

A different, much better BC showed up and USC was helpless on the field with zero run game and an unprepared defense that looked too slow to stop anybody even if the players were in the right scheme, which they weren’t.

Basically, USC got hustled. Problem is, USC also got exposed. I can’t believe this team is still ranked in the top 20. They don’t deserve it. The entire team is average except Leonard Williams and our WRs.

Seven Win Sark gave us all a big glimpse into why they call him that at WASH. It didn’t have to be this way Sark. You earned this all on your own. You don’t have NC caliber talent and you shouldn’t be expected to field a playoff team with this group. But it would be nice if you showed up with a more advanced game plan than your average Pop Warner outfit. Give up the play-calling obsession, unless Kiffin’s fate doesn’t bother you that much.

  8. If we are truly honest about this team, with a new coaching staff and the number of new starters & freshmen on this team, this is a rebuilding year… However, DC Wilcox now has the monkey on his back in proving he can coach & defend against duel threat QBs as every team USC plays from now on will use BC’s game as a starting point in their gameplans and the fact Stanford gained more yards than the Trojans in that game. Giving up as many yards as the defense is allowing, Wilcox should know he is being watched in particular by just about everyone.

  9. I thought it was because of all the lost little trolls on here. Glad we cleared that up. So now we move on.

  10. Good idea to TAUNT The B.C. Football team before kickoff. Yep…that one sure worked…..and you still wonder why you are called a dumb CLOWN SCHOOL!

    Fit Un $c Clowns!
